A certain Hogwarts professor of runes

Chapter 72 Christmas Dinner

Felix was surprised to find that he had gained something unexpected.

Combining Malfoy's words, he realized that the diary hadn't been brought to school by Malfoy—he was just an unlucky guy who found it after the second attack.

Now, he can finally be sure.

Felix nodded, turned and left, when he suddenly heard Luna's ethereal voice behind him—

"Christmas presents".

He turned to look at her. "What?"

Luna said in a serious tone, "I suddenly realized that I haven't prepared a Christmas present for you yet. We met too hastily." She calmly rummaged through her pockets and, under Felix's slightly strange gaze, pulled out a strange-looking bracelet.

She said with great regret, "I made them myself. I was planning to make a pair." She held out her hand and handed them to Felix.

Felix didn't know why he reached out and took it, but he did.

Luna skipped and hopped away.

When Felix returned to his office, he was still holding the bracelet in his hand. He leaned back in his chair, seriously considering how he should reciprocate.

I feel that ordinary gifts don't quite suit her style...

Finally, he pulled out a copy of "A Collection of World Jokes" from his collection, and for some reason, he felt it suited the little witch named Luna quite well. Watching the owl disappear into the distance, he refocused his attention on the new intelligence.

Gryffindor, fiery red hair, a first-year student—these characteristics combined almost convinced him that he was a Weasley, whose family was quite famous for its red hair.

He had also heard from his assistant that Ron's sister, the youngest member of the Weasley family, was starting school this year.

So, how did this whole thing end up being related to the trio again?

He recalled that he had indeed encountered the little red-haired witch a few times earlier, in rather sensitive locations—either near Hagrid's hut or in an abandoned girls' restroom.

Felix pondered this; it was another direction for investigation. He was eager to know who had brought the diary, and whether he had any similar, extra copies—the younger version of the Dark Lord was very cautious, never uttering a word about his relationship with Slytherin, which put some of his ideas in a difficult position.

As darkness fell, Felix arrived at the auditorium. From a distance, he could see the brightly lit and beautifully decorated hall. In addition to the ones he had seen in the morning, there were more than a dozen lanterns floating around the ceiling, constantly throwing colorful fireworks from mouth-like openings.

He spotted the trio, with Ron waving excitedly at him—Felix guessed it might be because of the gift he'd given him, but he didn't have time to think about it further. Dumbledore was greeting him, so he went over.

The headmaster was dressed formally and quite humorously tonight. His long beard was tied up with purple and red ribbons in the shape of a gourd. "Felix, Happy Holidays."

"You too, Headmaster Dumbledore."

Dumbledore blinked and said softly, "I received your gift. It's very nice. I haven't had a chance to read the book yet, but just from the title, I know it's worth reading."

"I'm glad you like it."

With a series of crackling sounds as fireworks were painstakingly pulled out of the hall, the banquet officially began.

As headmaster, Dumbledore led everyone in singing several cheerful Christmas carols, then announced with a smile, "Eat your fill and fill your bellies."

A variety of delicious foods suddenly appeared, including roast turkey, small sausages, braised meat, pork chops, kidney pies, peas with butter, baked flatbread, and so on, making it an exceptionally abundant feast.

The young wizards huddled together, their forks scraping across the table, leaving trails of afterimages.

Felix also put aside his worries and enjoyed the meal.

Hagrid recommended a special eggnog made by Hogwarts to him. Felix tasted it and found it to be sweet and sour with a mild alcohol content. He then drank a few more glasses.

Lockhart, standing to the side, shook his head, his wavy hair bobbing up and down.

Professor McGonagall and Dumbledore spoke in hushed tones, occasionally letting out a chuckle.

After eating until they were about 70% full, everyone finally had time to chat, and a buzzing sound echoed in the hall. Felix picked up a piece of raisin pudding with his fork, stuffed it into his mouth, and out of the corner of his eye, he saw his assistant leading two young wizards tiptoeing out of the hall.

Interesting, are they planning to do something?

On the other side, Hermione held up two pieces of chocolate cake and announced her plan, "I put ordinary sleeping potion in here. You just need to make sure Crabbe and Goyle find them—they'll definitely eat them. Once they're asleep, pluck a few strands of their hair and hide them in the broom cabinet."

Ron and Harry exchanged bewildered glances, realizing the plan was riddled with flaws. Ron asked her, "And you, Hermione?"

"I already have mine! Remember the Duel Club? Milison and I wrestled, and I fought back fiercely... Anyway, I got her hair."

Hermione left to check on the Polyjuice Potion, leaving Harry and Ron to complete the task.

"To be honest, I think it's unlikely to happen," Ron said with a worried look.

Harry didn't have much hope either.

But they could only huddle in the shadows, staring intently at the entrance to the auditorium.

After a while, a somewhat bored Harry quietly asked Ron, "When are you planning to ask Professor McGonagall for leave?"

"The sooner the better," Ron said without hesitation. "I can't wait to get a new wand. Professor Hyp is so thoughtful!"

Felix simply and directly gave him seven Galleons and a note that briefly read, "I noticed your wand is damaged. I suggest you buy a new one, otherwise you won't be able to participate in the Duel Class next semester. Also: consider this a reward for your courage."

Harry received a copy of "The Duel Manual," one of the reference books Felix used when writing his Duel Course textbook.

Therefore, the two also learned that Professor Hyp had taken over Lockhart's dueling club, and they discussed it privately, expressing their high expectations for his classes.

"I just hope the new Duel Class won't have any trace of Snape," Harry said hopefully.

The dinner had been going on for over an hour, and the young wizards were gradually leaving. Felix was still talking to Professor Flitwick about the magic manuscript he had given him. "That ancient magic is very interesting. It's somewhat like a combination of the shrinking spell and the enlarging spell."

Professor Flitwick said, "It is said that these two curses evolved from it, and I do see some similarities, but it could also be a coincidence."

The two agreed on a time, planning to conduct a detailed academic discussion after Felix had completed his research for a while.

Amidst the lively and bustling atmosphere, Felix's first Christmas dinner as a professor at Hogwarts came to an end.
