A certain Hogwarts professor of runes

Chapter 16 Exploring the Mysteries of the Magic Runes

Back in his own professor's lounge, Felix began to decorate the room according to his own ideas, with various items flying out of his suitcase.

After everything was arranged, he watched a movie for entertainment and then went to bed happily.

The next morning, Felix went to the library and wandered through Hogwarts' thousand-year-old collection of books.

On the first day of school, there weren't many people looking at books. Felix picked out an original copy of "Exploring the Secrets of Ancient Alchemy" from the restricted section and began reading it with great interest.

Sure enough, the banned book had a certain prestige; its contents opened his eyes, and he even discovered seven methods for making a spyglass.

However, his purpose was not the alchemical artifacts in the book, since the book was quite old and many of its contents were outdated. What he valued was the ancient magical runes hidden within the alchemical artifacts.

Ancient magical scripts never appeared and disappeared all at once.

In the earliest, untraceable era, in the barbaric age of magic, some exceptionally gifted "people" painstakingly built the foundation of the edifice of magic. They sought the secrets of magic from magical creatures and plants, and unexpectedly discovered that certain patterns could temporarily store magical power, transforming it into wondrous magical effects.

This is the earliest form of ancient magic script.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of numerous pioneers, wizards mastered a greater number of runes, which gave rise to powerful ancient magic and ancient alchemy, thus allowing human wizards to stand out.

At that time, runes represented power.

As times progressed, more and more promising individuals were discovered, and the number of wizards began to increase. They urgently needed a written language to record their magical knowledge.

Some people gathered together and, based on the runes, developed an ancient script, which was then widely disseminated. By this time, most of the runes were actually powerless, serving merely as a medium for recording knowledge.

As more long years passed, new and magical scripts were discovered one after another, while the earliest ancient scripts continued to develop and change, evolving on their own in various parts of the world.

This process resulted in numerous instances of phonetic loan characters, synonyms, mistranslations, and non-standard writing, causing countless problems for later researchers.

Two things happened next that deeply affected all the wizards.

The first was the invention of the wand, which made spellcasting more stable and simpler;

The second thing is the birth of simplified magic derived from ancient magic. This kind of magic may be slightly less powerful, but with the amplification of the wand, it is actually not bad.

Most importantly, this simplified magic is easier to learn and safer!

And so, over the long course of time, more and more wizards abandoned the spell, and it gradually became a legend.

Today, spellbooks are collectively referred to as ancient spellbooks, and many wizards simply regard them as a language, with the sole purpose of translating the magical manuscripts of their predecessors.

Felix had no interest in studying ancient history; what he wanted was "magical" ancient runes, or rather, the original runes—as for the rest, what were they anyway?

But since I've learned it, at least I can use it to teach students now, right?

Those original magic runes are now either lost or exist in ancient magic books, gathering dust in some unknown corner.

According to Felix's research, this kind of magical script was best preserved in the branch of alchemy, and even evolved and developed on its own, forming its own logical system.

As things stand, runes and alchemy are no longer related.

However, from a historical perspective, a piece of alchemy often represents an ancient magical script loop, or its evolution. This is especially true for alchemy pieces that are older.

This is exactly what Felix wants!

Currently, he has only mastered a little over two hundred of the original magic runes and a dozen or so magic rune loops.

The task is arduous and the road ahead is long.

A day passed quickly, and Felix had made great progress, discovering at least six new rune paths!

If he could deconstruct these demonic runes and restore them to their original state—no, back to their original form—he felt his reserves could increase by at least a third.

What is meant by "millennial heritage"?

This is.

Felix didn't even eat that day—hey, who needs to eat when they have knowledge? A bottle of magic potion will solve the problem!

Efficiency can be improved by seven percentage points!

Don't bother him.

"Professor Hep!" a woman's voice greeted him in a low tone.

Felix looked up and saw Hermione standing beside him, holding a thick book. He glanced at the title; it was one of the books on his reading list.

Moreover, it happens to be his own book, "Exploring Ancient Runes".

This was certainly no coincidence. Hermione was a very clever little witch, and she really wanted the position of "Professor's Assistant," but the reading list the professor gave her was just too long!

A cursory glance over a week might be possible, but want to delve into it? Absolutely not.

She must focus on one book as the primary source and use the others as references.

Just now, after spending half an hour picking out all the books from the reading list, she was surprised to find that one of them was actually a work by that young professor! She immediately decided which book to focus on.

Do we even need to choose? Anyone who hesitates on this question is an idiot!

Felix and Hermione sat next to each other, not disturbing each other, until the closing bell rang.

Hermione yawned in a completely unladylike manner.

Good night, professor.

She walked briskly with the book in her arms and disappeared in no time.

Felix gently moved his stiff neck, and only then did he realize that he was starving!

Having just completed the book-borrowing process at the last minute, Felix swaggered into the kitchen and, using "please," "please," and "thank you" as keywords, obtained three pies, a piece of cheese, and a jug of pumpkin juice from the house-elf.

He also encountered two Hufflepuff wizards who had sneaked out to get him a treat, but he pretended not to see them.

Back in the lounge, he quickly finished his food and went straight to sleep.

The same thing happened the next day;

The same thing happened on the third day;

Thursday morning arrived in the blink of an eye.

Transformation Lesson.

Harry and Ron saw Hermione rushing off as soon as get out of class ended, exchanged a glance, and hurriedly followed after her.

"Hermione, slow down!" The two of them were panting.

"What have you been busy with lately? I haven't seen you all day."

Hermione moved quickly, answering swiftly, "I told you, have you forgotten?"

Harry paused, he'd been busy these past few days too, with Quidditch training. Ron quickly recalled, "You mean, you're going to be the new professor's assistant?"

"That's right! But I'm not the only candidate."

The three of them went to the Potions class basement. Hermione took out her Potions textbook and put it aside. Then she took out another book and muttered to herself. The thickness of the book made Ron and Harry, the two academic underachievers, despair.

"Is this your task? To read such a thick book?" Ron glanced at the book with some fear.

"Not one, but twenty!" Hermione said as she flipped through the books, quickly noting down anything of value. This was already the fourth book she had read. Apart from Felix's own works, she only skimmed through the other books, looking for useful entries.

But the number twenty still left her feeling somewhat hopeless, which has made her quite irritable lately.
