Rules of Delta: Starting with the Lost Dam

Chapter 18: Confusion, Questioning Said.

Administration building, meeting room.

"Get ready, once the operators have made their decisions, we'll move in."

Said looked at the soldiers in front of him and gave a cold command.

However, the seven remaining people did not respond.

They lowered their heads, clenched their fists, and remained silent.

"I'm asking you, are you ready?"

Why?

A soldier from Asara spoke, his voice hoarse.

"They are our comrades-in-arms."

"What are you saying!"

Said walked up to the soldier and questioned him in a deep voice.

Say it again!

"He, they are..."

Before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by Said.

"Raise your head and speak!"

"Look me in the eyes when you speak!"

"You are soldiers, warriors, not cowards who bow their heads!"

"yes!"

Upon hearing Said's words, the soldier trembled violently.

He bit his lip, looked up, and his eyes revealed both resentment and determination.

"Reporting, sir!"

His voice was hoarse, but unusually firm.

"I'm asking, why kill your comrades!"

The soldier questioned again.

"They are dead!"

Saeed's voice was cold and firm.

"No!"

"But they're still moving, still fulfilling their duties!"

The soldier refused to back down, his voice trembling with a hint of tears, his eyes brimming with emotion.

He knew that the infected agents were still active.

They are still fulfilling their duties, protecting the people they once protected.

"That's humiliating!"

Saïd's voice was more serious and cold than ever before.

His eyes, hidden beneath the helmet, were filled with rage.

"They don't need any humiliation!"

"They are heroes! Heroes deserve respect and honor, not to be reduced to such half-dead existences!"

"They are warriors, they can die in battle, but they must never become vessels for that hideous alien!"

"Become those alien tools!"

"Do you understand!"

By the end, Said's voice had become hoarse.

The soldier being questioned turned pale.

His hands hung limply at his sides, his teeth clenched, tears welling in his eyes, unsure how to defend himself.

He is not ignorant.

However, they were unwilling to think about it in detail, and unwilling to point their guns at their former comrades.

The other six people also looked ashamed, standing aside with their heads down, not daring to utter a sound.

"Snapped!"

Saeed clenched his right fist and slammed it on the table.

"Do you remember?"

His tone softened, tinged with a hint of reminiscence, as he murmured.

"Back when we first joined the army, we were so full of enthusiasm, wanting to defend this land and our country!"

"Back then, we were fearless, living a life of constant danger."

"But everything changed from that day on!"

Said's voice carried a hint of sadness.

"Our enemies are no longer soldiers with guns, but monsters that appeared out of nowhere!"

"Our comrades fell one by one, becoming puppets of those monsters!"

"Our country, our land, is being devoured by those monsters!"

"We were powerless to stop it; we could only watch helplessly as it happened!"

By the end, Saeed's voice was choked with sobs.

The seven soldiers remained silent.

They knew that Said was right.

They knew it was their duty, their mission.

However, they felt upset, frustrated, and resentful!

Their comrades, their brothers, became puppets of those monsters.

They were going to kill them.

They were unwilling, reluctant, and didn't want to do it.

You shouldn't point your gun at your teammates.

Even if they are already dead.

But these were orders, and they had to obey!

This is the bottom line.

Said did not continue speaking.

He knew that there was no point in continuing.

"I will fight to the very end, until I die!"

"If you don't want to follow me, you can leave now!"

Saeed's voice was firm and resolute.

The group of people trembled violently, looked up, and their gazes became resolute.

"I swear to follow you to the death!"

They shouted in unison.

"very good!"

Saeed smiled with satisfaction, turned and left, leaving only his back view to the soldiers.

As soon as Saeed stepped out of the conference room, he was stopped by someone.

"What's wrong?"

"You come here alone, wanting to die again?"

Said turned his head and looked at the doctor who was following him, his eyes cold.

Why?

The officer gripped his rifle tightly, his face flushed, and gritted his teeth as he angrily said:

"Why are you killing us?!"

"hehe"

Seid sneered, his eyes icy.

"You filthy rats who invade other people's homes and plunder their resources, are you asking us, the people you've robbed, why we want to kill you?"

"What did you say?"

Upon hearing this, the officer's pupils contracted slightly, his face filled with disbelief:

"How could you ignorant and backward people possibly understand us?"

"Ignorance and backwardness, enough is enough."

Seid snorted coldly.

"The self-proclaimed advanced Hafk Corporation is like that, and so are you agents who fell from the sky. But what makes you so noble? You plunder our resources and kill our compatriots."

"We took up arms to fight back, and you're questioning us about why we killed you?"

"Don't you think this is ridiculous?"

No, that's not it.

The officer gripped his rifle tightly, wanting to explain.

We just see this as a game, and the soldiers we kill are nothing more than cold, hard numbers.

It's virtual, fake.

However, he just couldn't bring himself to say it.

It seemed as if some unseen force was stopping him.

That was true then, and it's true now.

Since I became completely lost in this land.

He then felt that he was no longer the person he used to be.

He seemed to have become a different person, a puppet driven by desire and greed.

So, he wanted to go back.

But where can we go back to?

Where do we come from, and where are we going back to?

What is the reason for going back?

Why go back?

And that other person, why did the red wolf save him?

She knew perfectly well that something was wrong with him; he was no longer the original operator.

Why save him?

His mind was filled with doubt and confusion.

Those memories that didn't belong to him were screaming and howling wildly, trying to break free from his restraints.

"Aaaaaah!"

He clutched his head and screamed in agony.

Those memories, like ferocious wild beasts, rampaged through his mind, disrupting his originally calm thoughts.

At last.

He asked it.

His voice was hoarse, as if he had used up all his strength.

"Then why don't you kill us now, kill these agents who invaded your Asara lands?"

"Because it's meaningless."

Said looked at the setting sun, lost in thought.

"It's meaningless?"

"Hehe, hahahaha..."

The man suddenly burst into a strange laugh, laughing so hard that tears streamed down his face.

"It's meaningless?"

"Then what about us? What about me and my companions who were killed by you?"
