Chapter 264 Anti-Hunting
The corpses of three third-tier demonic beasts lay silently on the ground, their blood staining the black earth red.
Li Gang and Liu Ruyan stared in disbelief at what they had just witnessed. Three demonic beasts, each equivalent to a Core Formation stage cultivator, had been instantly killed.
"Junior Brother Huang... who... who exactly are you?" Liu Ruyan asked, her voice trembling.
"I am Huang Zhao." V Zhao turned around and looked at her. "Someone who wants to live."
"But..." Li Gang couldn't help but speak up, "your strength..."
"My strength is not as simple as you think," V Zhao said calmly. "Now is not the time to discuss this. Zhao Feng is still alive; go see him."
"Yes, Junior Brother Zhao!" Li Gang suddenly remembered and quickly ran to Zhao Feng's side.
Zhao Feng was severely injured; the Ironback Wolf King had ripped a deep gash into his chest, exposing his internal organs. However, he was still clinging to life.
"Help...help me..." Zhao Feng said with difficulty when he saw Li Gang.
"Don't speak." Li Gang quickly took out a pill from his pocket and stuffed it into Zhao Feng's mouth.
"His injuries are too severe; he must go back for treatment immediately," Liu Ruyan said.
"We can't go back." V Zhao's voice rang out.
"Why?" Li Gang and Liu Ruyan both looked at him.
"Do you think all of this was an accident?" V Zhao sneered. "Three third-tier demonic beasts and so many Ironback Wolves—this was clearly arranged by someone on purpose."
"You mean..." Li Gang's expression changed.
"Zhao Wuji," V Zhao said, "He wants me dead here."
"But..." Liu Ruyan asked, puzzled, "Why would he want to kill us? We had no grudge against him."
"Because of me," V Zhao said calmly. "He wanted to kill me; you were just caught in the crossfire."
"This..." Li Gang and Liu Ruyan exchanged a glance, both seeing the terror in each other's eyes. If it really was Zhao Wuji, then they might truly be in grave danger this time.
"So, we can't go back," V Zhao said. "If I'm not mistaken, there's definitely an ambush on the way back."
"So what should we do now?" Liu Ruyan asked.
"Wait," V Zhao said. "Wait for them to come."
"Wait for them to come?" Li Gang was taken aback. "You mean...?"
"Since they want us dead, then we'll wait for them here." A cold glint flashed in V Zhao's eyes. "Let's see who kills whom."
"But..." Li Gang glanced at the heavily injured Zhao Feng, "Junior Brother Zhao... **
"He won't die." V Zhao walked to Zhao Feng's side, tapped his chest a few times with his fingers, then took out a pill and put it into his mouth.
"This is... a Grade 4 Healing Pill?" Liu Ruyan exclaimed in surprise.
"Hmm." V Zhao nodded. "His injuries are severe, but with this pill, he won't die for the time being."
"Thank you very much, Junior Brother Huang," Li Gang said gratefully. A fourth-grade healing pill is a rare medicine even in the inner sect, and Lu Zhao actually took it out like that.
"No need to thank me," V Zhao said calmly. "He was implicated because of me, so it's only right that I save him."
"Now, let's find a place to hide and wait for them to come."
"Okay." Li Gang and Liu Ruyan both nodded. Now, they had no other choice but to trust Lu Zhao**.
The three men carried the seriously injured Zhao Feng and hid him in a secluded cave.
"Junior Brother Huang, how many people do you think they will come?" Li Gang asked in a low voice inside the cave.
"Not many," V Zhao said. "This kind of thing can't be done on a large scale. I estimate it's probably just a few inner disciples, or Zhao family assassins."
"Can we handle this?" Liu Ruyan asked worriedly.
"You don't need to lift a finger," V Zhao said calmly. "Just stay here and hide. Don't come out."
"You're alone?" Li Gang exclaimed in surprise. "No, that's too dangerous!"
"Don't worry, I'm confident." A cold glint flashed in V's eyes. "Since they want my life, I'll make sure they don't leave alive."
Looking at Lu Zhao's confident eyes, Li Gang and Liu Ruyan were speechless. They now realized that this seemingly ordinary young man possessed a chilling aura.
"So now..." Liu Ruyan asked.
"Wait." V Zhao closed his eyes. "They'll be here soon."
Sure enough, less than an hour later, footsteps came from outside the cave.
"They're here." V Zhao opened her eyes. "Hide well and don't come out."
"Be careful," Li Gang and Liu Ruyan both warned.
V Zhao nodded and walked out of the cave.
Outside the cave stood three people. They were all dressed as inner disciples, but they all exuded a strong killing intent.
"It really is you guys." V Zhao looked at the three people in front of him and said calmly.
"You're not dead?" The leader was a one-eyed burly man who looked surprised when he saw Lu Zhao.
"I've let you down," V Zhao said.
"Where are the other three?" The one-eyed man glanced around but didn't see Li Gang and his group.
"Dead." V Zhao said calmly.
"Dead?" A hint of doubt flashed in the one-eyed man's eyes. "Impossible, we didn't see a body."
"They were eaten by monsters," V Zhao said. "Didn't you arrange for three third-tier monsters? The three of them were no match for them."
"Then why didn't you die?" The one-eyed giant stared at Lu Zhao.
"Because I'm stronger than them," V Zhao said.
"Stronger than them?" the one-eyed giant sneered. "Just you, a late-stage Foundation Establishment cultivator? **
"Don't believe me?" V Zhao smiled. "Then you can try."
"Let's give it a try!" the one-eyed giant shouted, a huge axe appearing in his hand as he swung it down at Lu Zhao.
"Early stage of Core Formation?" V Zhao raised an eyebrow. "It seems Zhao Wuji really thinks highly of me."
"Die!" The one-eyed giant axe whistled through the air as it cleaved down toward Lu Zhao's head.
"Too slow." V Zhao shook his head, and with a swift movement, dodged the axe.
"What?" The one-eyed man was shocked; his axe had missed its mark.
"Here." V Zhao's voice came from behind him.
"Oh no!" The one-eyed man exclaimed in alarm, trying to turn around, but it was too late.
"Thud—" A long sword pierced his back and emerged from his chest.
"You..." The one-eyed giant lowered his head, looking at the tip of the sword in front of his chest, his eyes filled with disbelief.
"Next." V Zhao drew his longsword, and the one-eyed giant's corpse fell to the ground.
"Big Brother!" The other two were shocked. They hadn't expected that their eldest brother, who was at the early stage of Core Formation, would be killed in one move.
"Attack together!" The two exchanged a glance and simultaneously lunged at Lu Zhao.
"Ants," V Zhao said indifferently, flicking his longsword.
"Pfft—" Two flashes of sword light appeared, and the heads of the two people flew off at the same time.
Three experts at the Core Formation stage were instantly killed.
"Come out," V Zhao said, sheathing his longsword and addressing the cave.
Li Gang and Liu Ruyan emerged from the cave, their faces filled with shock as they looked at the three corpses on the ground.
"They...are all at the Core Formation stage?" Liu Ruyan asked in a trembling voice.
"Mm." V Zhao nodded.
"You... what exactly is your strength?" Li Gang stared at Lu Zhao, his eyes filled with disbelief. Instantly killing three Core Formation stage cultivators—even the top ten inner sect experts couldn't do that, right?
"My strength is unimportant," V Zhao said calmly. "What's important is what we should do now."
"Go back," Li Gang said. "We must report this to the sect. Zhao Wuji dared to send people to kill fellow disciples; this is a grave crime!"
"There's no evidence." V Zhao shook his head. "These three people aren't inner disciples; they're Zhao family's assassins."
"An assassin?" Li Gang exclaimed in surprise. "How did you know?"
"Look at their arms," V Zhao said.
Li Gang walked over, lifted one of the men's sleeves, and discovered a black mark on his arm.
"This is... the Zhao family crest!" Li Gang's expression changed.
"Therefore, we have no evidence," V Zhao said. "Zhao Wuji can easily say that this is a private matter for the Zhao family and has nothing to do with him."
"So we're just going to call it quits like this?" Liu Ruyan said unwillingly.
"Of course not." A cold glint flashed in V's eyes. "Since he wants me dead, then I'll play along."
"What do you want to do?" Li Gang asked.
"Go back," V Zhao said. "Just pretend nothing happened."
"But..." Liu Ruyan asked, puzzled.
"Since he wants me dead, then I'll go back alive." A cold smile appeared on V Zhao's lips. "I'd like to see what kind of expression he'll have."
Looking at Lu Zhao's icy gaze, Li Gang and Liu Ruyan couldn't help but shiver.
They knew that Zhao Wuji had offended someone he shouldn't have.
