Who will be the role players now that everyone's been reborn?

Chapter 39: NCAA Phase 4 Begins, and the Stage of Madness 3 is Crazy!

With the various NCAA tournaments coming to a close, the NCAA has moved directly into Phase Four, also known as the March Madness Finals.

The divisions for each of the 64 teams, the seedings, and the matchups for each division have all been freshly released.

Wake Forest University was placed in the Abaquek region and is the No. 3 seed in the tournament.

Hmm, what the heck is Abaquerque District?

The question refers to the area names of the four major districts in the past, such as the East District, West District, South District, and Central West District.

Since 2004, the NCAA has been playing a new game, naming the four divisions after the venues of the Round of 16, regardless of whether fans can accept or understand it, as long as it showcases the democracy, freedom and independence of the United States.

The competition will begin on March 15th. After the champions of each division are determined, the final four will move to the final venue, St. Louis, on April 2nd for the ultimate showdown.

In the Abaquerque Group, Wake Forest University is undoubtedly the number one seed, after all, it was once the number one in North America. It is placed in the upper half of the bracket and will play Villanova Wildcats in the first game. If it can advance to the second round, it will face the winner between West Virginia University and Pittsburgh University, which is also a tough team to beat.

In the lower bracket, the University of Washington, the number two seed in this bracket, will defend their position. If they advance, they will face the winner between the University of Texas and the University of the Pacific.

Third round is a breeding ground for upsets; the third and fourth rounds can be largely ignored, because nobody knows who will survive to the end!

……

Olympic Stadium, Washington State.

March is springtime, and the 15th is also a day when spring is in full bloom.

The first round of the Wake Forest University Devil's Deacons vs. Villanova University Wildcats' Madness Tournament begins.

This Wildcats team has two major periods in its history, such as winning the NCAA National Championship twice in three years from 2016 to 2018, which earned them a reputation that even elite teams fear.

Another instance is in 1985, when the Wildcats, through teamwork and defense, defeated Georgetown University, led by Patrick Ewing, who had reached the 3rd Madness Finals three times in four years.

It's worth noting that Georgetown lost to the championship by only one point in 1982 due to a game-winning shot by Jordan, and in 1984 they defeated the University of Houston led by Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler. In other words, the Wildcats' basketball philosophy was comparable to that of North Carolina with Jordan, achieving what Olajuwon and Drexler combined couldn't, and ensuring that Patrick Ewing, the "uncrowned king," only won one championship in his career!!!

As the saying goes, success and failure both stem from the same cause!

After their stunning performance as an underdog to win the championship in 1985, the Wildcats have always lived in the past, steadfastly adhering to their team and defensive basketball philosophy.

So, from 1988 to 2004, for a full 16 years, they never even reached the final rounds of Madness 3.

The turning point came in 2001. Under the guidance of head coach Jay Wright for four years, the Wildcats finally made a comeback after 16 years.

However, as a weak team, they were matched with the elite Wake Forest University team, much like the first-dan Zhan Ying was matched with the ninth-dan Rui Naiwei in a Go competition.

Wake Forest University's starting five are: center Rick Williams, power forward Chris Ellis, small forward Chen Dong, shooting guard Justin Gray, and point guard Chris Paul.

Villanova University's starting five consisted of center Josh DeRozan, power forward Kevin Lowry, small forward McNardy, shooting guard Randy Foye, and point guard Allen Ray.

With Wildcats' star player Curtis Sampton sidelined due to injury, Jay Wright had no choice but to put rookie Kevin Lowry, who is 1.85 meters tall, at power forward. This coach is a talent; he devised a four-guard lineup, similar to Don Nelson's basketball philosophy, which mainly uses the Warriors' run-and-gun offense without any defense.

The game began, and Wake Forest University unsurprisingly gained possession of the ball.

Without much effort, Paul passed the ball from the top of the arc to the low post, where the 2.08-meter Rick Williams easily backed down the 2.03-meter Josh DeRozan and scored a two-pointer off the backboard.

Bang, whoosh—!

That's a Warriors-esque point loss!

Neither Lowry nor DeRozan could support the Wildcats' defensive system in the paint.

Turning back, the Wildcats made a quick advance, and Randy Foye received the ball in the attacking third and charged forward. Justin Gray had no idea about Foye's technical characteristics before the game, and he was easily outmaneuvered by this breakthrough.

He drove into the paint and made a jump shot after a sudden stop.

Why did March Madness turn out to be a surprise?

The answer is right here!

Looking at the lineup alone, Chen Dong, from the perspective of a reborn person, discovered that the advantage actually lay with the Wildcats team.

Randy Foye was a tough guy who could single out Roy the Yellow Mamba in 06, and with the late-blooming Lowry, if the Wildcats' star player Curtis Samport, who has second-round draft prospects, can continue to play, and if Wake Forest University underestimates them, they could very well be upset and eliminated in the first round.

Now, Chen Dong automatically positioned himself in the penalty area to receive the ball and challenge Lowry, who has a height of 185cm.

Paul didn't refuse, because with the Wildcats' size in the paint, defense would be a piece of cake.

The reason Lowry was able to play power forward is because he is a smaller version of Bonzi Wells, with the height of an outside player but the strength of an inside player. As a small but powerful player, he actually withstood Chen Dong's back-to-the-basket attacks.

"Wow, Chen Dong pulls up for a turnaround jump shot, and Lowry, who is 1.85 meters tall, can only watch helplessly."

"Two points made. Chen Dong, who is 2.02 meters tall, is bullying people. He can't beat people with strength, so he uses his height to bully people."

"However, the Wildcats didn't care. After conceding a point, they immediately switched to fast-paced, run-and-gun offense."

"Beautiful! Lowry drives and passes, but Ray Allen isn't Ray Allen anymore; he launches a three-pointer and sinks it perfectly, answering the call back..."

Swish-!

5 to 4!!

That's how you fight!

The number one seed has nothing to fear; they can only score a maximum of 3 points per offensive possession.

"As long as we can score every round, we can't theoretically lose!!!" Jay Wright on the sidelines pumped his fist in celebration and cheered on the players on the court.

Allen Ray nodded, giving Paul, the NCAA's top point guard, a fierce look. Paul dared to enter the NBA draft in 06, so he must have some fighting spirit. His best skill was his 45% three-point shooting percentage.

However, his physical talent was unremarkable.

Paul easily broke through the defense with a crossover, drove into the paint, and drew Lowry's help defense to block the shot.

Paul casually tossed the basketball into the air, and Chen Dong was already soaring through the sky like a dragon.

Clang!

He slammed the basketball into the basket with one hand.

The fans in the stands, who were watching with great enthusiasm, cheered.

To play ball well, you need the cooperation of your opponent.

Without a doubt, the Wildcats' defense being practically nonexistent presented Chen Dong with an opportunity to showcase his offensive talent.

A 1.85-meter-tall power forward – that's some kind of defensive attitude, it'd be a miracle if anyone could defend him.

The Wildcats were on offense, and Allen Ray and Randy Foye executed a pass and cut on the outside.

Paul's 183cm height was brought to Randy Foye's side, and without the slightest hesitation, he raised his hand and shot. At 1.93m against 1.83m, it was an absolute positional advantage. Not to mention, Randy Foye's shot was very decisive, catching Paul off guard on defense.

Swish-!

Still okay.

"What the hell? The Wildcats are raining down three-pointers."

"This undefended, high-scoring style of play... Wake Forest University is actually struggling to cope?"

"Oh wow, now I'm not sleepy anymore."

The situation with seed number one in this partition is not good!!!

8 to 6!!

The team that took control of the game and gained the lead was surprisingly the Wildcats, who hadn't participated in March Madness for almost 20 years.

This is insane!

Off the field, Proser gestured.

He doesn't think the Wildcats have a chance to upset Wake Forest. The reason the team was passive at the start was because they weren't familiar with their opponents. When Wake Forest figured out their opponents, that's when the Wildcats would be slaughtered.

"This...this is not scientific!"

After the first half ended, Proser was completely dumbfounded. Looking at the score on the scoreboard, he felt it was all a bit surreal.

The score is now 41-34, with Wake Forest University trailing by 7 points.

In the first half, Wake Forest University played quite well in their offensive back-and-forth battle. Chen Dong scored 9 points and 3 rebounds, Rick Williams also contributed 8 points and 2 rebounds, and Paul added 6 points and 5 assists. To be honest, their offensive performance was perfectly fine!

The problem was with the Wildcats; their three-point barrage was too intense. Randy Foye went 4-for-5 from three-point range and 6-for-7 in the first half, scoring 16 points. Allen Ray went 3-for-5 from three-point range and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line, scoring 12 points and 2 assists. Lowry added 7 points and 3 assists on 1-for-1 from three-point range. With such a crazy basketball philosophy, Wake Forest opted for a conventional, steady approach, allowing the game to fall into the Wildcats' offensive rhythm, making their deficit understandable.
