Medieval: Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Chapter 3: The Lakeside Cottage

To do something well, you must first have the right tools.

Before heading to the bandit camp for revenge, you need to level up and then take care of your injuries.

The first bandit in cloth armor I killed gave me 10 experience points, the two bandits in leather armor gave me 20 each, the bandit leader in chainmail gave me 30, and the apprentice archer I killed last gave me 20, for a total of 100 experience points, which was just enough to level me up to level 2.

You have gained 5 attribute points, 5 skill points, and 1 talent point.

How should we use these points? Peter pondered for a moment and decided that we should focus our efforts on the big picture, prioritizing the improvement of military-related attributes, and then discuss other matters once security was guaranteed.

Therefore, I allocated 3 of my 5 attribute points to Strength and 2 to Agility; and put all 5 skill points into Swordsmanship, reaching level 5 in Swordsmanship.

The increased strength made him feel full of energy, and he also added an extra 30 pounds to his load.

The increased agility made him feel light and agile, giving him the explosive power to move like a rabbit.

After his swordsmanship improved, memories of practicing swordsmanship hundreds of times flooded his mind. In the Middle Ages, commoners were not allowed to carry swords, let alone learn swordsmanship; anyone caught violating this rule would be severely punished. Therefore, Peter had never touched a sword in his life, but the system directly instilled in him years of sword-learning memories, saving him from many detours.

按照彼得对《天国拯救》游戏的了解,各种技能最高可以达到30级,每五级一个小阶段。比如1-5级为入门,6-10级为初级、11-15级为中级、16-20级为高级、21-25级为大师级,26-30级为圣级。

Back in the day, I was also known as the "Saint of Thieves" and the "Saint of Swords," but now I have to start all over again.

As for the use of the last talent point, Peter opened the system talent library, which contained six tiers of attributes: white, green, blue, purple, gold, and rainbow.

However, I am only level 2 at the moment, and there are only many white talent attributes that I can activate. After some deliberation, I chose the white attribute "Dexterous Hands" which can quickly enhance my combat ability.

Dexterous Hands (White Talent: You can wield weapons with dexterity, as if you've been practicing since childhood. It also lowers the barrier to entry when using heavy weapons.)

Peter gripped the sword hilt, a sense of familiarity washing over him. Knowing your weapon well is essential for using it effectively—no doubt about it!

But can this "nimble hand" only enhance weapon handling? Can it do something else?

Ahem, what I mean is...

Let's get down to business!

Peter snapped out of his thoughts and re-examined his character panel after allocating points.

Everything else is fine, but it's a bit tricky that you can't add health when you upgrade.

I've already upgraded, which is equivalent to reaching a new height in my life and experiencing a sublimation of my life. Why can't I sweep away all my injuries and make a full recovery?

Peter was very dissatisfied with the description of his character's stats: Health: 20/100 (Head injury). The game rules weren't very intelligent.

Ah, forget it.

That's how the rules are. You can take advantage of loopholes in the rules, but you can't go against them.

Since leveling up doesn't restore full health, the only way to restore health is through the rules: first, eat and sleep; second, drink alcohol and take drugs; and third, get a full-body scrub.

Eating and sleeping can be ruled out first, because the recovery speed is too slow. A delicious meal can restore 1-5 points of health, and a good night's sleep can restore a small amount of health, but to restore 80% of health, you would have to eat and sleep for ages.

Even a body scrub wouldn't work; he was quite a distance from the only bathhouse in the territory, the Zheleyov Coachman's Inn—too far, yes, just too far. This had nothing to do with the fact that he only had 6 groshins of wealth, and a full body scrub would cost at least 6 groshins.

So the only remaining option is to drink alcohol and take drugs.

In the game, some alcoholic beverages can restore health, and calendula potion is particularly effective—it's great except for its high price. So, are there ways to get treatment when you're broke or short on money?

The answer is yes, some brothers, some.

Just east of Devil's Canyon where he is, after swimming past Stone Tower Lake and following the mountain path eastward, you will reach the home of a kind-hearted herbalist named Bojina.

It is also the location where Henry and Hans were rescued after their escape in the game.

Although we don't know where the story is at, this kind herbalist is probably the most likely person to give me medicine on credit.

An hour later, just before sunset, Peter found Bojina's alchemy hut, following the game map he remembered.

To avoid startling the old woman, he washed the blood off his body and clothes as he crossed the lake, but now he was soaking wet and looked rather disheveled.

"Young man, who are you looking for? There's only a poor old man here; I don't have anything valuable to give you."

The kind old lady, wearing a white veil, looked at the tall young man in front of her with a slight nervousness. He was dressed in chainmail, carrying a sword and a bow.

"God bless you, madam. I am a wounded wandering knight. I heard that you can heal kind Christians here, so I came here."

Even though he had never eaten pork, he had seen pigs run. Peter, who had lived in the Earl's territory since childhood, imitated the manner of a noble knight and bowed.

"God bless you, child. Actually, the rumors you've heard might not be accurate. My real identity is a midwife, helping God's people give birth smoothly. Occasionally, I also brew some herbal medicine to sell. I'm not sure if I can help you, but I'd like to see where you're injured first, if you don't mind."

Bozhenna breathed a sigh of relief; at least it wasn't bandits coming to rob them. Since the Trossky territory was sold, the castle's steward and guards had all left. The new steward of the Borgo family was a complete scoundrel, doubling the taxes without providing a proper guard to protect the territory. Lately, the bandits had become increasingly rampant, and no one was doing anything about it.

Thank God, the young man in front of me seems to be a good person.

"Of course I don't mind. If you could let me into the house, I think it would be easier for me to tell you about my symptoms."

Peter maintained his polite demeanor. As the saying goes, "If others treat me with sincerity, I will repay them with sunshine." His true,狰狞 (zhengning, meaning ferocious or hideous) face would only be revealed when facing those damned robbers.

"Oh, I'm sorry, my apologies. Please come in, my lord."

Bodina quickly welcomed Peter into the house. The hut wasn't large; it was a wooden cabin built against the mountainside with a thatched roof, looking quite shabby. The house had no windows and was somewhat dark, but the light from the stove fire made it alright.

The firewood crackled and popped inside the stove, and an iron pot sat on top, bubbling away.

"Gurgle"

Peter's stomach rumbled uncontrollably. Due to prolonged hunger, his "nutrition" level had dropped to 35 points, and he desperately needed to eat.

"Are you hungry, my lord?"

Bojina had obviously heard Peter's stomach growling, so she kindly asked him what was wrong.

Peter was embarrassed, so he coughed and said, "As you can see, my stomach is protesting. Perhaps it's not because I'm hungry, but because of the tempting food made by your superb cooking skills, Madam. If possible, I would like to buy some to enjoy before my treatment."

As he spoke, Peter took a Grosshin silver coin out of his satchel and handed it over.

In Bohemia, the Grosshin silver coin was the legal tender, with 1 Grosshin = 10 Finni silver coins = 100 Helle copper coins.

An ordinary worker earns about 1 penny a day, a lord's guard earns about 5 pennies a day, and Cuman mercenaries earn about 1 groschen a day.

Therefore, Peter's act of giving one Grossen as payment for the meal was clearly very generous.

It wasn't that Peter was stupid, but rather that he knew the treatment was more expensive, costing between 10 and 30 groschen depending on its effectiveness. With only 6 groschen to his name, Peter had to resort to some tactics, including appealing to people's emotions.

"No, no, no, what's cooking in the pot are some early spring wild vegetables and mushrooms I picked from the forest, worth at most a few copper coins. Your silver coin is too much, Sir Knight, I cannot accept it."

As expected, the kind old lady refused.

"Please accept this first, consider it my advance payment for part of the treatment costs."

Peter, being a gentleman, placed the 3.7-gram silver coin in the old lady's hand and helped her hold it.

The old lady was a little embarrassed by Peter's solemn demeanor. Such an elegant and gentlemanly knight, although he looked somewhat down on his luck, was unexpectedly a well-mannered and kind person.

"Pfft"

A soft laugh came from a half-room on the roof. A slender, smiling girl leaned out, covering her mouth as she watched Peter holding the old lady's hand and chuckled.

"Who is this?"

Peter recognized her immediately as the old lady's adopted daughter from the game, but he still pretended not to know her and asked her.

"I am Pavlina, an apprentice herbalist and my mother's good helper. Sir, what is your name?"

The girl wore a white hooded top, a green bodysuit, and a herbal bag slung around her waist, making her look cute and lively.

Clearly, this beautiful girl, upon learning that a strange man had entered, immediately hid in the attic. But seeing that Peter seemed like a good person, she chose to reveal herself.

"I am Peter, Peter Griffin. A wandering knight searching for salvation."

When a man travels, his identity is something he gives himself. Peter fabricated a false origin for himself; Griffin means griffin, representing courage and protection, which suited his name "Peter" well.

P.S.: The actual purchasing power of Bohemian Groschen (large silver coin), Finney (small silver coin), and Helle (copper coin) may differ slightly from the game. For example, a commoner earns 1 Finney per day, a worker 3-5 Finney per day, a guard 5 Finney per day, and a mercenary 1 Groschen per day.
