Medieval: Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Chapter 15: Aristocratic Feuds
When you're traveling, you give yourself your own identity.
Peter presented himself to the outside world as a "wandering knight" from the South. In order to create the image of himself as a well-traveled and knowledgeable person, he had to make up stories based on the city conditions of later generations.
"Prague was the residence of the Holy Roman Emperors, with a population of around 5. It was a well-planned city with a thriving commercial sector. The citizens lived in three- or four-story brick buildings, wore brightly colored clothes, and there were vendors selling all kinds of vegetables, meat, and bread right outside their doors. Every household had a sweet water well in their yard, and the taverns were brightly lit until midnight..."
Peter began to boast based on his own stereotypes.
"Fifty thousand people? My God, that's a huge number of people living together! Their poop must pile up like mountains every day!"
For a medieval village girl, the most common sights were small villages of a hundred people; a village like Troschi with over three hundred inhabitants was the limit of her imagination. Fifty thousand? God...
Peter glanced at the girl speechlessly. "A mountain of poop? Your focus is quite peculiar, little sister!"
Continuing the conversation would lead to some strange tangent, so Peter changed the subject, saying, "You mentioned earlier that Lord Borgo's son stole the girl little Semi liked. What happened then?"
"Everyone says that if you talk about nobles behind their backs and get caught by the guards, they'll cut out your tongue. So everyone talks about it in private. I've only heard part of it, and I'm not sure if it's true."
Pavlina glanced around nervously, seemingly afraid that a lord's guard might suddenly jump out of the woods or bushes. But her gossipy nature made her want to keep quiet, yet she couldn't help but feel uncomfortable.
Peter found the girl's conflicted yet adorable expression amusing and encouraged her, saying, "Don't worry, now that you and your mother have become subjects of my camp, you are under my protection. Anyone who dares to harm you will have to ask my sword first."
As he spoke, Peter even drew his one-handed sword and twirled it.
"Phew, that's good, that's good. I knew you would protect me, sir." Pavlina felt a sense of security and continued, "That was two years ago. Young Semi had just come of age and was serving as a squire to Sir Semi. By chance, he met Amy, the eldest daughter of the wealthy landowner Jaxsey. Amy was very beautiful, but her father didn't favor her. Young Semi, however, was infatuated with her and often invited her to go out. It's said that young Semi promised to marry Amy, and Sir Semi didn't strongly object, after all, Jaxsey was one of the wealthiest people in the area."
Peter heard a familiar name and asked, "Is it Jaxsey, the one who drove you and your daughter out of Trossky village?"
"Yes."
Pavlina looked indignant, but continued, "Jaksi was no good, but his three daughters were good people. Yet, they were treated like servants by Jaksi, who desperately wanted a son. Ironically, after he died, all his property would be inherited by his daughters."
"So, Sir Semih and the Jaxsey family became related by marriage?"
Peter remembers that when the main storyline of the game started, Sammy was still single.
"No. That's the most infuriating part."
Pavlina retorted angrily, "That despicable Jaxey felt resentful that if he married Sir Semir, all his wealth would be inherited by the Semir family. He happened to meet the young Master Borgo, who was vacationing at Trossky Castle from the big city, and maliciously recommended Amy to the castle as a maid. Everyone knows what wicked intentions he had. Sure enough, that young master from the big city took a liking to Amy and raped her, wanting to make her his mistress. Everyone knows that those noble young masters would never marry a commoner's daughter."
"and then?"
Peter frowned, as if something was connecting.
"I heard that young Semi went to the castle to argue with young master Borgo, but was humiliated and driven out. After all, Borgo is now the lord of the entire territory, while Semi's family are just knights who need to be loyal to the lord."
"Where's Amy, that girl?"
"I don't know. She's never been seen leaving the castle again. Some say she went to the big city, some say she died of illness, some say she went to a convent. And little Semih hides in her own manor and never sees anyone again. In short, someone who should have been happy ended up in tragedy. Sir, don't you think little Semih was very cowardly? If it were you, you would definitely think differently."
Pavlina finished speaking in a huff, then looked at Peter with anticipation.
"If it were me, I would beat that young master to a pulp, stomp his face into the mud, and tell him that the girl is mine. I will take her out of the castle safely, and see who dares to stop me!"
Peter gave his answer without hesitation. As an illegitimate child who was also a wandering knight, he was destined to be incompatible with the noble families that had been established for hundreds of years, and could only take the path of a thieving baron who overturned the table.
What's there to be afraid of!
With her own wisdom and a little bit of cheat code, she is destined to have a place in this chaotic world of constant warfare!
The future is bright. Anyone who dares to hinder my progress is a dark and corrupt demon. Let them all be buried in the ground!
"Wow, wow, sir, your answer is really impressive."
Pavlina clutched her heart, her eyes sparkling. She had lived alone outside the village with Bojina since childhood, a wild girl who didn't fear the lord as much as the ordinary villagers. Hearing Peter's answer, she felt it perfectly matched her image of a knight. In a daze, she seemed to see Lord Peter riding a warhorse, his arm around her, charging through the entire castle.
What if the knight asks for a kiss back then?
"Of course I'd like to."
Pavlina blurted out excitedly. Seeing Peter staring at her in surprise, she quickly covered her mouth, her cheeks as red as if she had drunk two bottles of strong liquor.
Peter was slightly taken aback because he heard the system notification tone as soon as Pavlena said she was willing.
"Ding, Pavlina has voluntarily joined the host's ranks. Accept? Open the character panel."
"accept."

Haha, I didn't expect Pavlena's attributes to be so good, especially her intelligence and charm.
Intelligence is not the same as academic qualifications; it is merely a person's level of cleverness. In fact, Pavlyna was illiterate.
Charm is the quality that a person exudes from within. Clothing and accessories can enhance this quality, but the most important factor is one's inner qualities.
It's truly remarkable that Pavlyna, a country girl, possesses such attributes. As for the remaining points, Peter wasn't in a hurry to add them to her account.
As the saying goes: one should not accept rewards without merit.
It's not too late to add her credit after she has made some contributions.
As Peter examined Pavlyna's attributes, the girl also felt a strange, comfortable sensation coursing through her body; she felt safe and secure being near an adult. She thought it was just her imagination and didn't pay much attention to it.
"Sir, why are you staring at me like that?"
Feeling a little embarrassed by being stared at, Pavlina turned her head and asked softly.
Peter realized he had been a bit rude, so he laughed and said, "I was just wondering, aren't you tired walking all the way to Takhov village?"
"No, I used to walk there. I'd set off at the crack of dawn and arrive before noon. After selling all the baskets, I could make it back before dark."
Pavlina hopped and skipped as she spoke, expressing her ease. Her description of time also reflected the customs of the villagers in this remote village: working at sunrise and resting at sunset.
"You are truly a strong girl."
Peter sighed with genuine emotion. To supplement the family income, this sixteen-year-old girl traveled from village to village, taking considerable risks along the way.
The two continued on their journey, chatting idly along the way.
Halfway through the journey, while passing through a dense forest path, we suddenly noticed something unusual ahead.
Hand over your money bag! Or don't blame us for being impolite!
Not far away, two masked robbers were pulling at a vegetable farmer who was pushing a wheelbarrow.
"Please, I just want to go to Troski village to sell some vegetables. The money is for my daughter's medicine..."
The vegetable farmer pleaded desperately, his voice trembling with tears.
"Enough talk! We want the money, and the vegetables!"
Two robbers, dressed in patched coarse cloth and with their faces covered by dirty cloth, were punching and kicking the trembling middle-aged vegetable farmer who was clutching a tattered money bag. They were armed with simple wooden sticks and rusty short knives.
Have you ever encountered something like this before?
Peter shielded Pavlena behind him and drew his one-handed sword.
"It happened before, but I ran fast and dodged it," Pavlina said weakly. "It's only become more common in recent years; people didn't do this before..."
"Hide in the roadside bushes, I'll go check."
Peter told the girl to hide, then strode forward and shouted in a steady, powerful voice, "Let go of that poor man!"
The two robbers, clearly not expecting anyone to intervene, were startled and turned around. Seeing that Peter was alone, they became bolder.
"Mind your own business! Get out of my way!"
The two robbers brandished their daggers and wooden sticks, threateningly saying, "We're not afraid of you!"
Peter drew closer, continuing to shout, "You're robbing people on the road and bullying the weak! Do you want to face the judgment of me, the Knight of Justice?"
"Oh, he said he's a knight? Shall we quickly kowtow and apologize?"
The robber with the wooden stick began to tremble.
"No, don't be afraid. He doesn't even have a decent suit of armor, how could he possibly be a knight? You're lying to us, aren't you?"
The short-knife-wielding robber shouted, his voice trembling with fear.
"Justice will prevail!"
Peter could tell at a glance that these two robbers were amateurs. The fact that their faces were covered meant they were locals, afraid of being recognized; their skinny appearance meant they hadn't done many robberies and hadn't fattened up yet; and the fact that they dared to provoke him despite his chainmail showed they had little combat experience.
Peter didn't waste any more words with them. With nimble steps, his sword flashed, precisely deflecting the robber's wooden stick. He then struck the wrist of the knife-wielding robber with the blade, causing both robbers to cry out in pain. Peter followed up with two more kicks, and the two robbers staggered to the ground, groaning.
The battle ended in the blink of an eye, and Peter sheathed his sword.
The shaken farmer bowed repeatedly, saying, "Thank you! Thank you, Sir Knight! May God bless you! If it weren't for your appearance, I wouldn't have been able to afford medicine for my daughter. May I ask your name? Although I don't have much money, I will certainly spread your good name; God is my witness."
"The Griffin family motto: Fear not the powerful, nor bully the weak. Saving you was merely an act of justice; don't take it to heart."
Peter saw that the vegetable farmer was dressed in tattered linen clothes and wore a worn-out straw hat. His wheelbarrow was full of ordinary vegetables, and he could not extract any oil from him. So he waved him away.
"Praise be to God, praise be to the knight."
After thanking him, the vegetable farmer pushed his cart and ran away along the path without looking back.
