Hogwarts Summoning Guide

Chapter 60 Night Mentor

Moritz cut to the chase: "You really can kill Dementors?"

Bai Lin said confidently, "To be precise, it's a seal, but it has indeed made them disappear from the real world."

Moritz nodded and said, "You can benefit from killing... oh, I mean sealing away the Dementors?"

Bai Lin said noncommittally, "Anyway, if they don't provoke me, I won't go looking for Dementors to fight."

Moritz glanced at Bai Lin and said, "Azkaban needs to strengthen its defenses. If any more prisoners escape, I won't even need that old man Ross to pressure me; I'll retire on my own!"

Bai Lin rolled his eyes inwardly. You still don't know that Barty Crouch's mother drank the Polyjuice Potion and switched her precious son out of Azkaban, do you?

Bai Lin said, "As far as I know, Azkaban's defenses are quite tight, but there are still a few key weaknesses."

Moritz raised an eyebrow, seemingly disdainful of Bai Lin's complaints, but he still listened patiently. After all, if Bai Lin had just nodded yesterday, Azkaban might have been his.

Bai Lin explained in detail: "First of all, Azkaban relies too much on Dementors as guards. Dementors are very sensitive to humans, but if a prisoner transforms into an Animagus (animal form), the Dementors will often just watch the prisoner escape."

"Secondly, because Dementors can see through invisibility cloaks, you've only thought about people entering and leaving Azkaban invisibly, without considering that someone might transform into another person to enter Azkaban."

"Become someone else? What's the point then?" Moritz asked.

"We can swap the prisoners out and become one of them to serve our sentence in Azkaban," Bai Lin said truthfully.

Moritz was clearly incredulous that someone would be willing to go in and exchange themselves for the prisoners. He couldn't imagine anyone willing to trade with those Azkaban lunatics, serving their sentence to give the prisoners their freedom.

"I'll check them one by one when I get back..." Moritz didn't believe it, but he didn't deny the possibility.

"Third, more than a decade ago, several students at Hogwarts developed a Marauder's Map that could track the movements of everyone within its area at any time. I'm surprised that Azkaban doesn't have something similar yet," Bai Lin said.

Moritz was clearly amazed by the idea. Then Bai Lin took out the Marauder's Map drawn by the Marauder Group, which opened Moritz's eyes. He obviously found a management method that was very suitable for him.

Moritz was very satisfied with Bai Lin's answer. With a wave of his hand, two items appeared on the table: a small purse and an exquisite box.

The small purse was full of Galleons. Bai Lin knew that Moritz was paying the bet for Barnard's challenge yesterday. Barnard had taken three punches from him and must have been seriously injured. Even with timely treatment from a medical wizard, Bai Lin believed that Barnard would want to stay far away from him in the future.

Inside that exquisite box was a crystal ball the size of a fist, emitting a faint black light.

Bai Lin had a feeling that Moritz's immunity to soul absorption came from this crystal ball, or rather, the "Mentor of the Night".

"I know you're a young man who craves power. Believe me, Ross's orb won't help you much. Take this orb back and touch it. If the Night Mentor is willing to see you, your soul will briefly enter the orb to communicate with him. After you're done, I'll use a summoning spell to retrieve the orb." Moritz showed no sign of letting Bai Lin eat.

Bai Lin grabbed the money bag and box in each hand, gave Moritz a polite bow, and then walked away with Finis. Moritz watched his retreating figure, lost in thought.

Back in the hotel room, Bai Lin instructed Phineas to guard the door and not let anyone in. He then summoned Xuefeng to protect him, drew the curtains, and took out the dark magic orb, holding it in his hands.

It was an extremely mysterious feeling. Bai Lin saw the Summoning Encyclopedia fly in front of him, open a blank page, and then Bai Lin felt a sharp pain in the back of his head, as if something was being separated from his body. Then a new icon appeared on the encyclopedia: Soul Fragment...

Before Bai Lin could even see what was written behind the icon, he felt dizzy and his vision went black. He felt as if his soul had been swallowed up by the magic orb, like toilet paper thrown down the toilet.

Bai Lin found himself in a semi-transparent state, even his clothes had transformed into a soul form. Although it was a bit unscientific, he had seen many ghosts at Hogwarts who were fully clothed, so it wasn't surprising.

This is a world made of light and shadow. The sky is covered with dark clouds, but a faint white light shines from the edges of the clouds. The ground is made of an endless expanse of black basalt, neatly constructed, with a layer of water about two centimeters deep on top, reflecting the white-edged dark clouds in the sky.

Bai Lin slowly landed, his feet touching the water and creating ripples.

Suddenly, a large gate, also carved from black basalt, appeared not far away. The gate was covered with unknown demons and gods, each one lifelike. An old man wearing a long robe and a hood sat on a stone in front of the gate, seemingly waiting for Bai Lin's arrival.

Upon closer inspection, Bai Lin was nearly startled. The old man had one half of his face that looked like a normal human, while the other half was just a skeleton devoid of flesh and blood.

The old man saw Bai Lin approaching, stood up, and floated into the air. If it weren't for the fact that he had half a face, he would have looked almost exactly like a Dementor.

Bai Lin bowed slightly to the old man and said, "Kelin White, a new member of the Explorers family, has come to seek guidance from a mentor."

"Confusion... Doubt... Fear..." Although the old man did not open his mouth, Bai Lin clearly heard his voice.

"You're an atheist...who are you fighting for?" the old man asked.

"I just want to save my own life..." Bai Lin stroked his chin, speaking somewhat timidly.

"Throughout countless eras and spatial planes, there exist countless powers. These powers, either alone or fused together, have created different worlds. You seem to come from another world..." The old man's pupils changed from their normal brown to bright blue, and it seemed that Bai Lin had been completely seen through by him.

Bai Lin suddenly felt a burning pain on the cat claw-shaped scar on his forehead.

"Aha! It's the sun god fooling you... no, protecting you..." The old man seemed very happy.

Bai Lin touched the scar on his forehead, recalling the black cat he saw before being hit by the green train in his original world. Could that black cat be... the Sun God? What nonsense!
