Chapter 442 The Seal of the Ancient God
As the light gradually brightened and he could see things clearly, Bai Lin could hardly believe his eyes.
He was currently in the deep sea, and perhaps because of his soul, the surrounding seawater was as soft as air and as bright as day, just like the land.
Before him lay a vibrant, magnificent underwater scene, with countless brightly colored and spectacularly shaped coral reefs teeming with all sorts of unique marine life—a scene teeming with life, even displaying a sense of grandeur and prosperity.
In the middle of this beautiful coral sea, there seemed to be a mountain formed of black volcanic rock. However, Bai Lin had excellent eyesight and couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat when he scanned the outline of the mountain. This black mountain, which stood seven or eight hundred meters high from the seabed, was clearly the shape of an ancient monster.
This enormous monster "statue" has a head similar to an octopus, but its face is obscured by its large, bat-like wings.
"This is... the seal of Cthulhu?" Even in his soul form, Bai Lin still felt a chill run down his spine. No matter how confident he was in his own strength, he knew clearly that he was absolutely no match for the ancient gods.
"Please come this way, I think we can have a detailed talk..." Grakua's voice came from ahead. Bai Lin looked closely and saw that there was a small wooden house on a platform of the giant statue.
Yes, that's right, it's a typical log cabin in the woods, very common in Northern Europe. It's a simple and crude cabin built from nearby fir trees. On the platform in front of the cabin, there are some tables and chairs, and even hot tea is being brewed on the tables.
Bai Lin wasn't particularly surprised by this incongruous scene. With Gracoa's abilities, he wouldn't be surprised if he built a skyscraper in downtown New York City underwater.
At this moment, Grakua was standing very politely and elegantly by the wooden table, quietly waiting for Bai Lin to "fly" over. Only after Bai Lin took his seat did he sit down opposite Bai Lin.
Bai Lin noticed that Grakua had revealed a delicate and handsome human face, with his slender tentacles coiled up like hair at the back of his head, giving him a somewhat eerie beauty.
"Oh, Lord Whitescale, please don't be surprised by Gellert's appearance when he was young," Gracuya said with a grin. "I promised him I would make him young again, and of course I will keep my word."
Bai Lin felt a chill. When Graccia descended to Earth from outer space, he possessed the Dark Lord Gellert Grindelwald, who had been trapped in Nurmengard for decades. Thus, he possessed immense power upon his arrival, but poor Grindelwald naturally died of soul-death.
Bai Lin shrugged, indicating that he didn't care. He had already sensed the difference in this space. There was no extraordinary power here. He looked at his hands and was very puzzled about his state. He seemed to have returned to a physical state, a strange form that was a superposition of soul and physical state.
"Don't worry, I'll answer all your questions. After all, there's not much else we can do here besides chat," Gracuya continued with a smile, pouring Bai Lin a cup of tea as he spoke. "This is the finest Ceylon tea; both Gellert and Albus adore it."
Bai Lin raised an eyebrow. He knew that Dumbledore liked to drink Sri Lankan black tea, but perhaps due to the inertia of their older age, they still referred to Sri Lanka as "Ceylon," the name it had during the British colonial period.
Bai Lin took the teacup, but he dared not drink what Grakua had handed him. He placed it in front of him and asked, "General, what are you up to? How did you end up in the seal of the ancient god?"
"You noticed?" Grakua shook his "hair bun" and said, "This is indeed R'lyeh, the sealed ancient city of my lord's brother—the Great Old One Cthulhu. It is located in the cracks between many planes of Earth and is very difficult to find. The new gods must have gone to great lengths..." In his mind, the gods who brought order to Earth were naturally distinguished from "old gods" like Cthulhu and Hastur, so he used "new gods" to refer to them.
Before Bai Lin could reply, Gracchus continued, "Can you believe it? This place is almost exactly the same as Earth, but it's completely submerged in the ocean. There's no land at all. The entire planet has only one purpose: to become Cthulhu's prison."
Bai Lin swallowed hard. They were sitting at Cthulhu's shoulder level. Since it was a cage, it meant that Cthulhu was still alive, which made him feel somewhat uneasy.
"You need not be afraid," Grakua said with a smile, as if he had seen through Bai Lin's thoughts. "The seal of the new god is very strong. Not to mention me, even if my lord were to come in person, he would not be able to break this cage. Moreover, after hundreds of millions of years, my lord cannot be sure whether Cthulhu is still alive or still exists here."
Bai Lin hadn't expected Grakua to be so candid; these words should all be secrets of the ancient gods.
"I think you have already noticed the special nature of this space. It is completely impossible to mobilize spirit, magic, chaos, order, or any other extraordinary power here. Even Lord Bai Lin and I cannot use any extraordinary power here. This is a purely mortal realm."
"So this is the realm of absolute order?" Bai Lin figured out some things and couldn't help but exclaim in amazement.
Great Old Ones like Cthulhu possess godlike power, capable of interdimensional and interstellar travel. Unable to kill them, the gods imprisoned them in specially designed cages, such as the "Sealed Star R'lyeh" where Bai Lin is currently located. Modeled after Earth, this world was bound by a very strict order imposed by the gods. In this environment, all supernatural powers are forbidden, for without land, there is no birth of humankind. As for aquatic life, Bai Lin believes that the gods also set up certain special orders to prevent aquatic life from ever giving rise to civilization.
"I read in a novel that the seal will be broken once the stars are in a certain position," Bai Lin asked casually. The novel he was referring to was "The Call of Cthulhu," which he had read on his original Earth. It described how Cthulhu was worshipped by many evil cults, whose worshippers firmly believed that when the stars were in the right position, the ancient ruins of R'lyeh would rise from the sea, and Cthulhu would be unsealed and reign over the world once more.
Grakua glanced at Bai Lin, seemingly trying to see what Bai Lin was thinking, but on the surface he still politely said, "That's just a legend... It's too boring to talk about this. Doesn't Lord Bai Lin have any other questions for me? As I said, we can't do anything else besides chatting."
Bai Lin tapped his chin with his finger and said, "Tell me about the origins of wizards? They're not aliens, are they?"
