Chapter 439 The Investiture of the Gods Universe

Harry and Hermione didn't immediately understand what Catherine meant by "Dante's Hell," but soon they followed the young Crusader, riding day and night back to their old home on the outskirts of Barcelona. Everyone could see that he was the protagonist of this story, and Catherine called him "Dante."

Dante was clearly of noble birth, and his family's estate was quite wealthy and luxurious, with vast farmlands and vineyards. He was at least a hereditary baron. But when they arrived, the estate was already deathly silent, with bloodstains starting from the gate and extending into the interior of the estate.

Hermione covered her mouth with her hand. She had already guessed that the vengeful heretic assassins had arrived first, and Dante's family was probably doomed.

The blood on the ground was still fresh. Dante kicked open the gate and rushed into the manor. His gleaming silver sword and black crossbow were already drawn. His face was contorted with rage. If that heretic had stood in front of him at this moment, he would have surely torn him to pieces.

With a woman's scream, Dante's steps quickened. As he rushed into the stone house at the back of the manor, he saw three familiar faces. A tall, obese old man lay in a pool of blood, while an assassin in tattered brown leather armor plunged a long dagger into the heart of Dante's beloved wife. Amid the woman's screams, the assassin laughed maniacally and twisted the dagger, utterly shattering her heart, leaving her with no chance of survival.

Dante, who was originally furious and would have charged in and fought his way through even a thousand armies, felt his soul ripped out when he saw his wife's tragic state. He collapsed to the ground, his body going limp. A mix of emotions—regret, shame, anger—overwhelmed him, almost causing his mind to break down. Even when the assassin sneered and swaggered past him, he showed no reaction, as if his heart had turned to ashes.

Like him, Hermione and her two companions were also devastated. They simply couldn't withstand the psychological shock of this scenario. Even though Catherine kept helping them maintain their sanity, San continued to fall, showing no signs of recovery or cessation.

As darkness slowly descended, Dante finally stirred. He silently knelt down, moved his wife's body onto his lap, took out the silver cross from his robes, and began to pray for her. Although his wife had passed away, he still felt a sense of solace in his heart: his wife had always been gentle and kind, and he was certain that she would ascend to heaven, where there would be no more worries or pain.

But as he was praying, a faint golden light emanated from Dante's body, proving that he had awakened the power of order. At that moment, a dark shadow, invisible to the eyes of mortals, appeared beside him. To Dante's astonishment, the shadow grinned and hooked Dante's wife in his arms with its long scythe. The wife's soul was instantly seized by the shadow, and with a gust of wind, the shadow flew out of the window.

"No!" Dante roared in fury, cleaved open the window with his sword, and leaped out as well.

"Um, is that Death? Why isn't he chasing the assassin, but instead chasing Death?" Neville asked, somewhat puzzled.

Hermione's eyes were vacant, but she still answered him: "Because the appearance of the assassin was Dante's own doing, and Dante felt that his wife's pure soul should not be judged by Death..."

"I will not allow it! I will not allow you to abduct Beatrice's soul!" Dante roared, chasing after the shadow of Death. His figure, bathed in a faint golden light, had already transcended the realm of mortal power.

Death, carrying Beatrice's soul, entered the dark forest and opened the gates to Hell in a shady spot. Dante, who arrived shortly after, rushed in without hesitation.

Without Catherine having a choice, their bodies were sucked into the Gates of Hell.

"Attention everyone!" Catherine warned in the fire-filled tunnels of hell, "We'll be attacked once we're in hell!"

The summit of Kunlun Mountain on the other side.

Yan Nishuang and the others had already appeared in the grand hall, which was tens of meters high, but the "gods and immortals" in front of them surprised Yan Nishuang.

Dozens of magnificent jade thrones stood in the center of the hall. Yan Nishuang had thought that the thrones would be occupied by Taoist deities such as the Three Pure Ones and the Twelve Immortals of Kunlun, but there seemed to be far too many thrones. The people sitting on the thrones were not all of Eastern appearance. Not only were they of varying heights, ranging from two to ten meters, but they also represented all races and were dressed in all sorts of costumes, seemingly gods from other continents and civilizations.

"This is... the Pantheon?" Ron's eyes widened. He had never seen anything like it before, and he was so excited he was practically going crazy.

"Yes...I guess so..." Yan Nishuang answered somewhat uncertainly. But she quickly realized the reason, which was the paradox of the mythological era.

If the mythological era was merely a product of later human imagination, then out of reverence for nature, people imagined the existence of gods. Thus, the East has its own pantheon, the West has its own, and even tribes in Africa and South America have their own pantheons.

But this is a world of magic, and many signs prove that this world may have really existed in a mythological era. If these gods really existed, then it would be impossible for them to have completely different mythological systems. The earth is only so big, and the gods cannot just focus on a small tribe, unless the gods are very simple and bored, like to cultivate their own followers and have a strong sense of territory, and do not interfere with each other.

What we see before us does offer an explanation for the mythological era: all the gods on Earth actually come from the same "organization," which we'll call the "Pantheon." The Pantheon can allocate territories to the gods, and it's possible that certain gods around the world are the same deity, just given different names due to different language systems.

"Silence!" A majestic voice resounded throughout the hall, startling Yan Nishuang and the other two. The voice seemed to originate directly in their minds, rather than being a sound wave in the physical sense.

Yan Nishuang looked toward the tallest throne in the center of the hall, which was the power center of the Pantheon, where five great gods whose faces were not visible sat.

"Order must be restored! The extraordinary must leave the ground!" a great being declared first.

"We were sent to Earth to protect the Star Soul. Now that the Star Soul is stable, we must not coexist with humans," another great god said.

"Does the Jade Emperor mean that we should exterminate humanity?" A powerful female voice asked. "The appearance of humanity was merely an accident, but they have already been included in the Array of the Tree of Life of Myriad Realms. We have no right to exterminate humanity."
