Chapter 295 Two Cases

Bai Lin didn't expect things to go so smoothly. After just a few words of conversation, Qingming was willing to give him the official position of Yin Yang Da Yun. You should know that this is the second highest position in the Yin Yang Bureau after Yin Yang Zhu, also known as the Judge. It has a very high status in the Yin Yang Bureau and can even mobilize the Yin Yang Bureau's guardian army to fight against ghosts and gods.

Of course, Bai Lin understood what Seimei meant. His position as Daiyū was probably just symbolic. Seimei wanted to keep him by his side so that he could serve him and also keep an eye on him. With Bai Lin's strength, Seimei was not confident that he could deal with him. If he joined the ranks of other powerful ministers, such as Fujiwara no Akimitsu or the Minamoto clan, it would be detrimental to Seimei and the forces behind him.

The position was introduced, and several subordinates were assigned to Bai Lin. It seemed to be a proper job. The position of Grand Councilor was temporarily appointed by Seimei, and then the process would be reported to the court and go through the procedures, which would take at least four or five months. Bai Lin didn't really expect to become this kind of official. As long as he could stay in the Yin-Yang Bureau, he would have already achieved half of his goal.

"I wonder if there have been any major cases in Kyoto recently? I'm willing to help!" Bai Lin didn't beat around the bush and directly asked Seimei for work.

With a smile on his face and his eyes narrowed, Qingming looked younger than Bai Lin, but he was actually over forty. His handsome face had a mature air about it. He pondered for a moment and said, "There are two cases that Bai Dayun can take a look at."

Bai Lin immediately perked up, and Qingming explained everything in detail.

Case 1: The head of the Takeda family was assassinated. In a secret room, the murderer dismembered Takeda Chikayuki into eight pieces. The scene was gruesome, and the Takeda family believed it was the work of ghosts and gods.

Case 2: Young men frequently disappear near Liqiao Bridge. Local civilians claim that it is a ghost disguised as a beautiful woman, luring the men to their deaths.

As Seimei spoke, he observed Hakurin's expression and found that Hakurin showed no fear upon hearing about these ghosts and monsters, and even seemed somewhat eager to try. Seimei made up his mind, and after a brief discussion, the two decided to first go to the Takeda family to investigate, and then go to the Ryoubashi Bridge at night.

Seimei personally made his appearance, and the procession was quite impressive. He was surrounded by more than a dozen priests dressed in white robes. He rode in a very exquisite sedan chair, while Bai Lin chose to ride a horse and chatted with Seimei as they walked.

Kyoto is neither too big nor too small. It takes at least an hour to walk from the Onmyōryō shrine. Upon seeing the Onmyōryō flag, the common people did not shy away. Many knelt by the roadside and bowed towards Seimei's palanquin, seemingly praying for something. In this age of chaos caused by ghosts and spirits, the common people probably had nothing else to rely on but to pray that the Onmyōryō could exorcise demons.

As they were walking, Bai Lin suddenly heard a commotion on the street ahead. The lead servant rushed back in a panic, saying, "Reporting to the Assistant Master, the Demon Slayer Corps is fighting up ahead!"

Seimei parted the curtain of the sedan chair a crack and instructed the servant, "Go around it, the case is more important."

The group quickly took a detour. Although Bai Lin really wanted to see what kind of trouble the Demon Slayer Corps had caused, he didn't say anything because Seimei seemed to be deliberately keeping his distance.

"Is Bai Da Yun interested in the Demon Slayer Corps?" Seimei quickly caught Bai Lin's expression.

Bai Lin raised an eyebrow and said succinctly, "On the way to Kyoto, I encountered a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. He was very strong and also very sinister. Turn the page, and you'll find another world."

Seimei chuckled softly, covering his mouth with his sleeve, as if he had heard something amusing. "It seems that Bai Dayun didn't get the better of him. Don't worry, you'll have a chance to run into him in the future... In general, they don't interfere with the Onmyo-ryo's investigations, and the Onmyo-ryo doesn't interfere with them either, but if they really clash, the Onmyo-ryo is not someone to be trifled with."

Bai Lin rolled his eyes inwardly. He didn't care who was hitting whom. If Neon was sunk, it had nothing to do with him.

Seimei showed no intention of revealing any more information. After walking for another twenty minutes, the group finally arrived at the Takeda residence. The deceased Takeda Chikayuki had served in the military for over thirty years and was considered a veteran of countless battles. People came in a steady stream to pay their respects at the mansion.

The servant explained his purpose to the gatekeeper and waited for a long time before a middle-aged man dressed in mourning clothes finally came to greet him.

The middle-aged man was Takeda Kiichi, the eldest son of Takeda Chikayane. He was currently serving in the military, holding a middling position but with a rather arrogant air. Standing on the high steps, he glanced at Seimei's palanquin and said, seemingly angrily, "Does Lord Uesugi refuse to dismount before my father's funeral?"

Seimei, however, showed him no respect whatsoever, saying through the curtain of the palanquin, "If Takeda-kun is displeased, Seimei will simply turn back immediately."

Bai Lin looked at Takeda Kiichi's arrogant demeanor and sneered, "The Yin-Yang Bureau handles cases according to the law. If the Takeda family has any objections, they can report to His Majesty and the Yin-Yang Chief!"

Takeda Kiichi was furious and wanted to point his finger at Bai Lin and yell, "How dare a mere seventh-rank judge come to the Takeda family to cause trouble?" He immediately noticed the "Yin Yang Da Yun" badge hanging on Bai Lin's waist.

His shout startled many guests, and a large crowd gathered around. Although many did not recognize Bai Lin, they could tell from his build, posture, and attire that he was an overseas Chinese official from Tang. Seeing Qingming's sedan chair, they naturally recognized their origins.

Bai Lin glanced at Takeda Kiyoshi and asked, "May I ask who you are, sir?"

Takeda Kiichi snorted coldly and said, "I am the eldest son of the Takeda family! Captain Saemon Takeda Kiichi!" Captain Saemon was a military officer of the sixth rank, theoretically half a rank higher than Yin Yang Daimon, who was of the seventh rank. However, in this era where demons and monsters roamed, Yin Yang Daimon's status was actually higher than that of a gatekeeper officer like him.

Bai Lin's face turned red, and he raised his voice: "Takeda Kiichi is obstructing the Bureau of Yin and Yang from investigating the cause of Takeda Chikayuki's death, which is suspected of patricide! The Bureau of Yin and Yang shall arrest him according to the law, and his arrest will be punished more severely!" Bai Lin did not know whether the Bureau of Yin and Yang had such authority, but he knew that the Ming Dynasty's Embroidered Uniform Guard could handle cases in this way. After all, they were all the emperor's confidants, so there was nothing they wouldn't dare to cause trouble.

The guests were startled by Bai Lin's words, and Takeda Kiichi was also stunned. He did not expect that Bai Lin, a mere Yin-Yang Grand Master, would directly accuse him of patricide in front of so many people. Did he want to be disrespectful to him in front of the Takeda family's gate?

Before Takeda Kiichi could finish his thought, Bai Lin moved his finger, and Takeda Kiichi was punched hard in the stomach as if he had been punched. He screamed and fell to the ground, unable to speak.

Bai Lin scoffed, "A dignified military officer, so weak, is a disgrace to the Takeda family." He then looked at the onlookers and asked, "Is anyone still obstructing the Yin-Yang Bureau from handling the case?" The guests exchanged glances and took a few steps back.
