The Waseda Research Institute is located underground.

As the elevator slowly came to a stop, a small door opened in the wall beside it. Yuuki and Hiroyuki Edogawa pressed themselves tightly against the wall, barely daring to breathe. Although they were wearing invisibility cloaks, they were still quite nervous. First, they didn't know where Fujiwara Eiko had gone; she might have simply teleported from the surface to the underground. Second, they didn't know if there were other enemies or dangerous traps waiting for them underground.

Despite being mentally prepared, the scene they peeked through the small door still made them feel uneasy.

This is a tunnel carved out by some kind of animal. It is much more spacious than I imagined. Stone bricks are haphazardly embedded in the walls and ceiling, which must have been reinforced by magic. A few torches are randomly stuck in the cracks between the bricks in the walls, bringing some light to the tunnel.

What made them uncomfortable was that the tunnel was full of white spider silk and unknown slime. Some dark places were particularly eerie, as if some nocturnal animals were lurking there. The air was filled with a musty and rotten smell, which made them feel nauseous.

"It's the nest of the giant eight-eyed spider!" Yuxi whispered. There were already areas in the habitat of giant eight-eyed spiders, so she was very familiar with this kind of big insect, but no girl would like this thing.

"Be careful, walk slowly..." Hiroyuki Edogawa whispered, echoing the saying, "Since we're already here, we can't just turn back now." The two moved forward cautiously, thinking that they shouldn't disturb anything and see what was at the other end of the tunnel.

Soon, they discovered the giant spiders lurking in the darkness, each as big as a round table. However, they seemed to be sleeping, or perhaps their sense of smell wasn't very keen, as they didn't notice the two people wearing invisibility cloaks walking in at all.

Yuxi kept praying in her heart, "Can't see me, can't see me..." As if some god heard her words, the two of them walked safely through the winding tunnel, and there was a rusty iron gate in front of them.

In the center of the iron gate is a very conspicuous relief, which looks like a gargoyle. The gargoyle's eyes emit a faint, eerie light, and it is clearly some kind of magical lock.

Hiroyuki Edogawa tried the unlocking spell, but the gargoyle didn't budge. It seemed to be a specially made magical artifact that wouldn't be affected by this. Hiroyuki Edogawa then pushed the iron gate forcefully. The gate shook slightly, but a faint blue light quickly appeared on its old paint, clearly indicating some kind of magical barrier.

"Let me try!" Yuxi moved her wrists. She didn't have much magic left, only enough to cast about three or four spells. She thought for a moment, aimed at the hinge of the iron door, and her wand emitted a blue light, releasing an ice ray.

"It's done!" Yuxi said happily, looking at the frozen metal hinge. The magic barrier of this iron door had very low resistance to frost magic, and it should only take into account the defense against impacts and explosions. Edogawa Hiroyuki had a flash of inspiration. He took out a key from his pocket, used the enlargement spell to turn the key into an iron hammer, and hammered the frozen hinge a few times, successfully smashing the hinge with a dull thud.

"Hurry up and go in, the spiders are coming!" Yuxi grabbed Edogawa Hiroyuki and tore open the deformed iron door a crack. She quickly slipped inside. They watched the spiders gradually disperse before daring to stand up and continue forward.

The passage behind the iron gate was much cleaner, and after passing through a wooden door, the space ahead suddenly opened up and became bright.

Compared to the building on the ground, this place is more like a research institute or laboratory. The walls and floors are spotless, and the rooms are all separated by glass, filled with various unknown electronic devices.

Many researchers wearing white or light blue lab coats were busy at work. Yuxi glanced at her watch; it was 4 a.m., but it was as bright as day here, with people working diligently.

The two dared not speak, slowly examining the corridor along the corner of the wall. Hiroyuki Edogawa was jolted awake. He seemed to recognize this man. He was the one who took his sister away when they were children. He should be the owner of the Fujiwara Biotherapy Research Institute and the scientist who discovered the immortality virus—Takao Fujiwara.

However, he soon noticed that Fujiwara Takao's eyes were strange and not very bright. The two men next to him, wearing white coats, had very "streetwise" hairstyles, strong muscles, and fierce eyes, and did not look like researchers.

"He must have been kidnapped or controlled by a soul-stealing curse. Those two must be the dark wizards from the Ship of Light, responsible for guarding him," Hiroyuki Edogawa thought to himself.

Sure enough, one of the men, who had an earring, said, "Professor, His Highness the Divine Child demands that ten offerings be handed over tomorrow. How are your preparations going?"

As Fujiwara Takao walked, he said, "I will certainly complete the tasks assigned to me on time and in full. My people can work 16 hours a day, but the preparation of the offerings cannot be rushed. Even if Amaterasu comes, the seven-day period cannot be brought forward."

The other party didn't respond, seemingly somewhat displeased with his tone, but Fujiwara Takao continued, "With Eiko watching me, doesn't your Divine Child feel at ease? Even if it's just for Gaza, I'll do my job dutifully."

The man with the earring sneered, "It better be that way. You know what's going on... The Kagoshima research institute was attacked, and Lady Shinigami sent us here just to check on things."

Yuxi let out a soft breath and was about to speak when Hiroyuki Edogawa grabbed her and squeezed her wrist tightly. Yuxi quickly realized what was happening, shut her mouth, and dared not move again.

Sure enough, the man with the nose ring quickly emerged from the opposite room, clutching a pointed magic wand in his hand. He had clearly just noticed something and was waiting for the two of them to breathe a sigh of relief.
