Chapter 209 Cloud Treasury
Fall in love with reading, starting now.
Catherine pointed her wand and shouted, "Fire at me!" Instantly, hundreds of birds of various colors appeared in the air and charged recklessly toward the remaining three spellbreakers. Although they could not cause them much harm, they successfully blocked their vision. Bai Lin fought with increasing ferocity. With his hand of Aug gripping his spear, he swung it horizontally and vertically, and two spellbreakers followed in their companion's footsteps.
If they hadn't experienced it firsthand, these spellbreakers would never have imagined that dark wizards could fight like this. In their minds, once a magic-suppressing grenade prevented a wizard from teleporting, they were doomed to be slaughtered. Wizards usually just stood there dumbfounded, waiting to die, after a stun spell or something similar had failed.
The last spellbreaker was stunned by Bai Lin's imposing appearance, like a Vajra descending to earth. In his panic, he used his submachine gun to aim at the target, missing almost all of his shots. With two clicks, the bullets ran out, and Krum, controlling the huge shield, slammed him to the ground like a fly swatter, rendering him immobile.
"Collect all their weapons and armor, I need them!" Bai Lin put away the Fist of Orgrimmar, leaning on his knees and panting heavily. He was exhausted, his head was buzzing, and he was mentally drained. He regretted not asking Snape for two vitality potions before setting off; he could have bought them!
At this moment, he looked at the teleportation portal and saw that the portal in the stone carving had begun to weaken. Bai Lin gritted his teeth, didn't call out to the others, and took a step forward, entering the teleportation portal.
Bai Lin felt a sudden darkness before his eyes, as if he had fallen into a huge hole, but soon his vision cleared up. He seemed to have been teleported to a high altitude and entered free fall. Looking down, he saw through the clouds that he was at least four or five thousand meters above the ground.
But soon he landed on something soft and fluffy; the clouds seemed to be solid, allowing him to stand on them.
"This...this is heaven? Holy crap!" Bai Lin looked around in astonishment. There were many man-made objects on this cloud layer: sculptures that looked like stone but weren't, flower beds, doors, decorations, and even brightly colored flowers growing from the cracks in the rocks. Everything was so holy and natural. But he didn't see any life.
"Ah!" Bai Lin heard a scream from above, looked up and saw Catherine falling from the sky. He quickly caught her.
Catherine landed in Bai Lin's arms, her face flushing slightly. She quickly kissed him on the cheek before climbing down and standing on a cloud. Krum wasn't unwilling to come in; he was simply collecting equipment for the Spellbreakers as instructed by Bai Lin. He also had a selfish motive: he wanted to take one or two pieces of equipment back to Durmstrang for research, at least to inform Karkaroff and his classmates that they might encounter such enemies in the future. If a spell was cast and the opponent was unharmed, and then pulled out a pistol, the dark wizard would be like a lamb to the slaughter, utterly powerless.
Bai Lin knew they were still in danger. Caesar had been inside for several minutes, and he was anxious, wondering if he had found the Dawn Orb. In their previous two encounters, they had each won and lost, but Caesar's marksmanship, swordsmanship, and defense had given Bai Lin a headache. Now, his mental strength could only summon the Thunder Bird once more, which was Bai Lin's last resort to deal with Caesar.
Bai Lin led the way, with Catherine close behind. The two walked along the corridor formed by clouds into the distance. This place seemed to be an angel's garden, beautifully constructed. Even after countless centuries, it was still full of life, with beautiful miracles everywhere. There was even a stream in the clouds. The stream flowed along the clouds to the edge and formed a waterfall that fell from the sky.
"How beautiful!" Catherine exclaimed, but she didn't stop walking. She knew that a powerful enemy lay ahead, and only by subduing that murderer could they freely and comfortably appreciate this unheard-of celestial scenery.
Soon, they arrived at a large cloud platform. Sacred golden light flowed across the platform, and an altar stood in the center. Even from a distance, Bai Lin could see a statue of a six-winged angel in the altar, holding a pillar radiating golden light in its hands. Without a doubt, that must be the Dawn Orb—the closest being to God among the nine factions—the Dawn Mentor of Order and Goodness was within it.
He had just stepped onto the platform when he heard Caesar's voice from the side: "Aha! It's you again! You always appear at the most unexpected times and places! Karin White!"
Bai Lin looked up and saw Caesar emerging from behind a cloud of mist. Caesar waved his hand politely and said, "Don't be nervous. You can't use magic here, and I can't use firearms either!" As he spoke, he pointed his long-barreled revolver at his head and shot himself. However, the pistol didn't fire; instead, it made a soft "ding" sound, but no bullet was fired.
Bai Lin tried to activate his magic, but found that there was no reaction at all. It seemed that this place was quite strange.
"This is God's garden. Before leaving Earth, God wanted to entrust the Dawn Orb to humanity. After layers of selection, the most law-abiding, kind, and respectable people in the world formed the Holy Army. However, God still could not find a suitable candidate to entrust the sacred artifact—the Dawn Orb—to, so He sealed the Orb here." Caesar stood in front of the angel statue and spoke eloquently.
"What exactly are you plotting!" Bai Lin shouted sternly, shielding Catherine behind him. He didn't believe Caesar had come here for world peace and for people to live better lives.
"Ah, it's alright to tell you," Caesar said very naturally. "More than thirty years ago, I was still a child." He walked around the angel statue from a distance, but Bai Lin did not dare to let his guard down at all, protecting Catherine behind him and keeping his distance from Caesar.
"Back then, I was the strongest kid on the streets of the City of the Dead (a slum in Cairo, Egypt)... No one dared to defy me... That's why my family was able to live a life free from hunger and starvation... Until one day, I was beating up a little dwarf, and he pulled out a stick this long..." Caesar said, gesturing as he spoke. Bai Lin understood; it was a magic wand. The kid he had been bullying was a wizard.
"He just did that! The whole house collapsed, and I was buried in the rubble..." Caesar took off his armor and fur coat and threw them casually on the ground. Bai Lin and Catherine could clearly see that his limbs, abdomen, and chest had been extensively mechanically modified.
"The person who saved me replaced 60% of my organs and muscles with machines. I don't know if I can still be considered human, and I don't care!" Caesar stretched his arms and said, "Actually, there are many convenient aspects. For example, I don't need to go to the toilet anymore. My excrement is automatically stored in a small bag, and I can just take it out of my stomach and throw it away every night."
Caesar's description sent chills down Bai Lin and Catherine's spines; the life of a cyborg was simply unimaginable to them.
"Is that why you hate wizards so much?" Catherine asked.
"Hate? Oh no! I don't hate!" Caesar's expression was somewhat fanatical and twisted. He said, "I just simply want to kill them all, these magical freaks! Disgusting mutants! Scoundrels, hybrids of demons and inferior races!"
"You've gone mad..." Catherine was speechless; she had actually felt a moment of sympathy for him just now.
"You not only slaughtered wizards, you also just killed dozens of Muggle villagers!" Bai Lin said coldly. He didn't know why Caesar wanted to tell them so much, but he was also seizing every opportunity to observe the environment and analyze countermeasures.
"They gave their lives for my great cause. I respect them, I remember them, and I think they died a worthy death!" Caesar chuckled, seemingly referring to the pieces he had abandoned on the chessboard.
Bai Lin and Caesar faced off, and the two groups gradually circled the angel statue in the center of the cloud platform. Bai Lin was a little confused as to why Caesar had come here early but had not gone to retrieve the Dawn Orb, unless he could not retrieve it or there was great danger.
"Ah! Since you're here, you must be here for this too!" Caesar said cheerfully, pointing to the jewel in the angel statue's hand. "That thing may look like it's just sitting there, but it exists in another dimension—visible but intangible!"
Bai Lin suddenly realized that if approaching the statue would result in some kind of restriction, mechanism, or spell that would kill people, that would be completely inconsistent with the "Orderly Good" faction's philosophy.
"Order! Yes, that's the word!" Caesar seemed to have opened a floodgate, speaking eloquently: "Dawn represents order and goodness, and only a soul willing to sacrifice itself for others can touch that bead!"
"Why would a madman who wants to slaughter the entire wizarding world want a treasure that represents order and goodness?" Bai Lin asked. He didn't have enough information yet, so he continued to probe and recover his mental energy. He didn't know if the summoning spell had also failed.
"This bead has many uses. It can reshape my limbs and free me from this mechanical monster look! I'm not even a man!" Caesar said, becoming more and more excited.
Bai Lin and Catherine suddenly realized that Caesar, whose body had been modified by half, must have lost certain functions. In addition, his appetite and desire for money no longer stimulated him. Without the desires of an ordinary person, he naturally became a madman.
However, Caesar's words revealed a lot of information that Bai Lin didn't know. Caesar must have put in a lot of effort to find a way to shape limbs, but it's unclear how he and Barnard got together, and Barnard was obviously being used by him.
"You don't mean you want me to willingly offer my soul to get the jewel, do you?" Bai Lin couldn't help but ask, seeing Caesar's excited expression.
"I will respect you very much! Even more than my father!" Caesar suddenly said with a serious expression.
"Are you out of your mind? I don't want a rebellious son like you!" Bai Lin rolled his eyes, speechless at Caesar's thought process.
"Since that's the case... let's have a fight... no offense intended, I think you'll agree when I cut off the beautiful lady's fingers one by one... it's just a pity... after I'm rebuilt, I really hope to have a perfectly intact lady by my side..." Caesar threw down his pistol, clenched his fists, and two sharp knives suddenly appeared on the back of his hands.
Bai Lin tried to summon the Thunder Bird, but the encyclopedia showed no reaction whatsoever. Since he transmigrated to this Earth, he had never experienced the encyclopedia not responding at all. Looking at Caesar's twin swords, he was completely baffled.
He was well aware of Caesar's close-combat abilities. Without the aid of summoning magic, he was no match for him. His beloved sword, Jade-Handled Dragon, was lost in the Antarctic Ocean. Even the recall spell couldn't retrieve it. It's very likely that Zem'us swallowed all the solid matter in the seawater at that time (except that the octopus's belly was actually its head...).
But given the current situation, they had nowhere to retreat or hide. Bai Lin gestured for Catherine to step back, and he had no choice but to bite the bullet and go for it.
Without magic, Catherine is just an ordinary young lady. She knows she can't help, and staying would only hinder Bai Lin and make her a target for Caesar. If Caesar takes her hostage, he might actually force Bai Lin to commit suicide.
Bai Lin took off his cloak and fur coat, revealing the Nightmare Hunter leather armor underneath. Caesar examined Bai Lin's armor and said with great admiration, "Exquisite armor, made by a master! Don't worry, I'll only leave two small holes in it, and then find the best craftsmen in Europe to repair it!" Bai Lin was already immune to Caesar's boastful words and didn't even bother to roll his eyes at him.
Caesar is incredibly fast. His legs are modified with mechanical technology unlike those of Muggles, giving them far greater power than ordinary people. His speed is so great that even Usain Bolt, the 100-meter sprinter, might not be able to match him.
Bai Lin was waiting in comfort. He had no other hope now. Even if Krum came, it would probably just be one more blow to Caesar. Looking at Caesar's approach and the sharp blades gleaming on his arms, Bai Lin's spirit was more focused than ever before. Time seemed to slow down around him. Some blurry images of his grandfather teaching him boxing for the first time in the martial arts school when he was a child suddenly echoed in his mind.
In the blink of an eye, Caesar's sword was already piercing his neck. The blade sliced through the air, even emitting a sharp whistling sound, demonstrating the immense force of the blow.
Bai Lin felt no fear or intention to retreat. Caesar's imposing presence seemed to ignite a fire deep within him, fueling his boundless fighting spirit. His clenched fists suddenly transformed into palms, striking Caesar's wrists with a powerful strike from the Wing Chun style of Chum Kiu. Bai Lin was unarmed, and in this situation, the agile and close-range Wing Chun was the only viable option.
Caesar's wrist was struck and twisted slightly. Bai Lin's strength had been enhanced many times, so his power was not something Caesar could ignore. Caesar suddenly stopped and swept his leg towards Bai Lin's lower body. He was confident that if Bai Lin dared to take the blow head-on, he could fracture his shinbone.
