Chapter 198 Facing Evil Spirits
"His name is Grakua, a minion of another Great Old One, Hastur... You should know that the H-Bomb could destroy your body along with it... Is there anything I can do for you?" Bai Lin looked at this old man who had lived for countless years and felt great admiration for his millions of years of struggle against Zemurus. If it weren't for him, Zemurus might have already ruled the entire ocean on Earth, and no human ships would be able to sail safely on the sea anymore.
The old man pondered for a moment, then suddenly became excited, his voice trembling slightly: "Child of humanity... I sense some aura of the sun god within you... I think I can trust you... I hope that, if possible... I will launch a seed at the last moment, and I hope you can find it... and protect it..."
Bai Lin agreed without hesitation. Just as he was about to chat with the old man for a few more minutes, the entire palace suddenly began to tremble violently. He was unsteady on his feet and almost stumbled and fell to the ground. He steadied himself and quickly walked to the palace gate to take a look outside. What he saw almost scared him to death.
The once clear, azure seawater and the golden sunlight filtering through it were all gone. The colorful fish had vanished without a trace, and the entire area outside the palace was shrouded in darkness, as if the palace had fallen into an abyss.
A deafening roar came from above. He looked up and saw a huge black shadow looking down at the entire palace. Serenas's palace was covered by a transparent protective shield, which made Bai Lin feel as if he were inside a Christmas crystal ball. Compared to the people outside the crystal ball, he was as small as an ant.
"You old codger! Surrender!" the shadowy figure roared. His voice was young, at most in his early twenties. Although Bai Lin was terrified, the shadowy figure in front of him became clearer and clearer. It was a fair-skinned, handsome face with a rather evil and ferocious expression, and a magnificent head of blond hair. Bai Lin suddenly remembered the wizard pictures he had seen in Chocolate Frog. This was clearly what Grindelwald looked like when he was young. It seemed that the possession of the evil spirit Gracchia had given this centenarian a new youth.
Amid Gracuia's roar, the palace shook violently once more, and some of the jade stones on the dome fell and shattered on the crystal floor.
Although Bai Lin was terrified, he knew very well that Grakua couldn't possibly be that powerful. If he could grow that big, why would he need Zemers' help? He would have already slaughtered everyone in the encirclement and suppression of the wizards from the American country and Lulu's organization. By now, the American country would have been crushed by him.
As Serenas said, he had the ability to hold back the spirits of Zemeus and Gracusia, preventing them from escaping. So, although Gracusia appeared to be enormous, like a god descending from heaven, and Serenas's palace seemed like a toy in the palm of his hand, protected only by a glass-like shield, like a tiny cage, conversely, if Serenas's palace wasn't a cage, then wasn't the spiritual world outside the glass shield a cage that Serenas had created for Gracusia?
Bai Lin couldn't help but smile. Having figured this out, he no longer feared Grakua's enormous body. He closed his eyes and silently recited the mental magic Lulu had once cast: "Eye of Truth, dispel the fog..."
When he opened his eyes again, it was suddenly bright. Grakua's enormous body was gone, and golden sunlight shone down once more. Bai Lin smiled happily. He had once again successfully escaped Grakua's mind magic. Looking outside the palace's protective barrier, a man in a well-tailored black suit stood quietly outside, his hands in his pockets, his face somewhat annoyed. It was clearly Grakua himself, except that at this moment he was almost as tall as Bai Lin, but only the size of a normal person.
Grakua seemed unable to see what was inside the protective shield. Even though Bai Lin was right in front of him, he was completely oblivious and continued to yell into the shield, "Damn old man! I'm going to rip your guts out!" But Bai Lin found it rather amusing.
"A clever human child..." Serenas's voice rang in Bai Lin's ears once more, tinged with approval. "While I would love for you to continue chatting with me, I'm afraid you should go now, or you might encounter danger..."
Bai Lin was startled. A cool breeze wafted from the palace onto him. Then, he felt a moment of disorientation. When he opened his eyes again, he was back on the back of a conch shell in the deep sea. The Jade-Handled Dragon had pinned his sleeve firmly to the fossil shell. He was dragged along by Zemers and drifted in the deep sea for several minutes.
Just as Bai Lin came to his senses, a ferocious tiger shark's gaping black mouth was less than five meters away from his head.
"WTF! He's passed out!" Bai Lin pointed a finger at the tiger shark, and a beam of red magical energy struck the tiger shark's mouth. The tiger shark was struck as if by lightning, shuddered, and crashed heavily into the fossilized shell of Serenas, immediately losing consciousness. Bai Lin could only wish him good luck. Many sharks need different swimming techniques to keep enough oxygen-rich seawater entering their gills. If they pass out, they may choke to death.
He glanced in the direction of Kiki and Krum. The seawater there was murky, blood was spreading in all directions, and there were shark remains and limbs everywhere. Bai Lin didn't know if they were safe and could only pray for them in his heart. But his more important task was still to complete the task Lulu had given him.
If he hadn't encountered Serenas's mind in the spiritual world, he might have simply fixed the positioning device to a piece of fossilized shell. But now he knew that Serenas's conch shell and Zemurus were clearly two different beings. If he attacked the back of the conch shell with an H-bomb, he might only shatter Serenas, while Zemurus could still escape in time, at most suffering minor injuries. At that point, Zemurus, freed from Serenas's control, would cause who knows how much trouble he would stir up. Therefore, he decided to continue forward and attach the positioning device to Zemurus to complete the mission.
Bai Lin gritted his teeth, pulled out the Jade-Handled Dragon, and charged towards Zemers along the fossilized shell of Serenas.
Half an hour should have passed by now. Bai Lin swam along, somewhat worried, wondering how many wizard soldiers would successfully return to the Diana. Suddenly, a loud bang came from behind him. He turned around and saw a group of deep-sea fishmen rushing out from somewhere, attacking the Diana. These fishmen seemed to have some more powerful weapons, and they were unleashing a barrage of attacks on the Diana. The loud bang was from a violent explosion in the stern compartment of the Diana, causing great damage to the ship.
"WTF!" Besides cursing, Bai Lin really didn't know what else to say. He could only hope that Lulu could successfully use Apparition or some other wondrous holy spell. But if he couldn't complete his mission, then their trip would be in vain, and they would die in vain.
The fossil shell of Serenas was not only covered with the cave dwellings of deep-sea mermaids, but also with many other marine creatures, such as sea anemones, starfish, and some unknown mollusks. What they had in common was that their size far exceeded Bai Lin's knowledge.
Bai Lin suspected that Serenas was leaking some kind of energy that could prolong the lifespan and increase the size of living beings, but that was not a problem for Bai Lin to consider at the moment. He could only try his best to avoid these creatures, especially the seemingly beautiful and harmless sea anemones with their long tentacles. Fortunately, these creatures with little intelligence could not be controlled by Gracua's mind magic or the miniature octopus monster, and they only preyed on instinct.
Zemeus's body was hidden inside the fossilized shell of Serenas, with only its long tentacles protruding, dragging the heavy shell forward.
As it drew ever closer to the churning Zemurus, its tentacles, at least a couple hundred meters long and several meters thick, churned up the mud and sand from the seabed. Wherever it went, whether it was a coral reef or a rocky shoal, it plowed it into a deep trench hundreds of meters wide. It was conducting a carpet search around Antarctica on the seabed.
"Damn, how much does a creature this big need to eat in a day?!" Bai Lin couldn't help but exclaim. Generally speaking, a creature this large cannot rely on hunting whales or other large creatures for food, as it would easily starve to death due to food shortages. It would be more reasonable for a creature like a blue whale to indiscriminately inhale seawater and use its keratinous fins to filter out solids from the seawater as food.
However, the terrifying behemoth before them clearly did not live by drinking seawater. Even whales would be nothing more than chicken legs on a plate, to be grabbed and eaten. But with Zemurus causing such a commotion on the seabed, how could any large creature like a whale dare to approach it? And why haven't Muggles, who have been exploring all over the world, discovered its existence?
Bai Lin shook his head. These were not the issues he should be thinking about at this moment. The mud stirred up by Zemurus reduced visibility in the water to only a few meters. If Zemurus relied on sight to perceive its surroundings, it seemed that it had not noticed Bai Lin's approach. Now was the perfect time. He aimed at the base of the thickest tentacle and swam over.
Octopus tentacles can be quite uncomfortable when they're as thick as an arm, and terrifying when they're as thick as a waist. But when they're actually several meters thick, they're not so disgusting or unpleasant to look at up close.
Zemurus's outer skin, due to countless millennia of growth, had an outermost layer of dark gray stone. Living organisms need to metabolize, and the cellular tissue produced by the giant beast's metabolism forms a shell-like structure. As Zemurus moved, some of the petrified shell shattered, but most of it remained firmly attached to its body, like a mottled brick wall.
Bai Lin took out a positioning device the size of a fist, preparing to find the sturdiest outer shell, chisel out a deep groove with his sword, and install the device inside.
Just as Bai Lin drew his sword to get to work, Zemeus slowed down. The churning tentacles stopped moving, and then a strange voice came from Zemeus.
"What the hell is this?!" Bai Lin felt that the strange tone was not like an ordinary sound that travels through a medium by sound waves, but rather it rang directly in his mind, giving him a splitting headache. He clung to Zemers' shell and, using the same trick as before, nailed his coat directly to the shell with the jade-handled dragon to prevent himself from being stunned and drifting away by this mental attack.
Bai Lin clenched his teeth, trying his best to resist the influence of those strange tones. He didn't know the meaning of these tones, but he knew they were definitely not a good thing.
Because Zemurus stopped "plowing," the silt on the seabed gradually settled, and the seawater became much clearer. It seemed that it was already dawn. Although Bai Lin had a terrible headache, his eyesight had returned.
Bai Lin looked up and saw an unprecedented sight before him: countless black dots were converging from all directions. These were thousands upon thousands of fish of all kinds, from sharks and whales several meters long to cod and flat manta rays about a foot long, forming a whirlwind of fish that was converging on Zemers.
Zemurus's enormous tentacles stretched out in all directions. From Bai Lin's direction, he couldn't see the center of the tentacles, but a vortex almost sucked him in as well. He could only hold tightly to the sword and the stone shell in front of him. He suddenly understood what Zemurus lived by. It didn't need to go out to hunt at all. Whenever it was hungry, it would make this strange sound. This wasn't some kind of mind magic targeting enemies, but rather a hypnotic spell on the fish in the surrounding sea. Zemurus just needed to open its mouth and wait for the fish to come in on their own.
"Damn, this is so convenient..." Bai Lin thought to himself as he struggled to maintain his balance in the vortex. However, he had placed too much trust in the petrified shell on Zemers' skin. Under the immense suction, Bai Lin suddenly felt his hand loosen, and the shell fell off. He was then pulled along with the shell by the vortex toward Zemers's large mouth hidden in the conch shell.
Bai Lin was so frightened that he almost lost two and a half of his three souls. How could he still be alive after being sucked into Zemers' mouth?
"Summon: Fist of Orgrimmar!" Bai Lin, amidst the churning water, quickly summoned his thick Orgrimmar arm, then roared at the sword in his hand, "Grow bigger, all of you!"
The Jade-Handled Dragon rapidly grew larger, and Aug's massive hand grabbed the hilt of the sword. As Bai Lin's figure passed a tentacle of Zemurus, he didn't hesitate to plunge his sword into the tentacle, finally using Aug's immense strength to stabilize his body.
Zemurus shuddered, and the massive vortex abruptly stopped. A roar erupted from Serenas's shell. Octopuses, of course, do not have vocal cords, but Zemurus was clearly a demigod-like behemoth. His roar created sonic shockwaves that rippled outwards. Bai Lin's body, which had been sucked towards the base of the tentacles, was once again pushed outwards by the shockwaves. If it weren't for Aug's power, the first shockwave would have been enough to blast Bai Lin away and make him disappear without a trace.
