Chapter 187 Horse-Shaped Water Monster

"This is cattail, isn't it..." Qiqi muttered as she swam. Cattails are not aquatic plants that grow underwater, but rather a type of plant that takes root in shallow swamps, extending its long leaves more than a meter above the water surface. Yet, it was growing extensively on the bottom of Black Lake. Moreover, its leaves were softer and much larger.

To get a clear view of the lake bottom, Qiqi had to dive underwater and swim close to the tops of the water plants. She carried her long curved knife on her back and swam quite skillfully.

Actually, Kiki wasn't that nervous. It's not that she didn't care about Bai Lin's safety; like Hagrid, she didn't think that a small task like searching for someone underwater would pose any threat to Bai Lin.

He must be an omnipotent man. Even Caesar, who is equipped with a full set of spellbreaker gear, might not be his match. Although Qiqi didn't say it, she felt very safe by Bai Lin's side. Not only did her nightmares disappear, but she also handled the several battles with her teammates with ease. They even managed to deal with such terrifying alien monsters. What danger could there be in a friendly match between magic schools?

Lost in thought, Kiki searched the bottom of the lake carefully, but she was disappointed. Not only did she not see any trace of white scales or other humans, but she also did not see any common underwater creatures such as Greendylo or ordinary fish. At most, she saw some shellfish, crabs, and shrimp at the roots of aquatic plants.

Suddenly she noticed a very dense clump of seaweed, which seemed to be wrapped around a large clump of something. Although it didn't look like a human, it looked like a long, large leafy sea dragon (a relative of seahorses, but not related to dragons).

If Kiki had a camera, she would definitely have taken a picture of it. However, she seemed to have become quite familiar with Hagrid at Hagrid's hut, and surprisingly, she said in the team chat: "Hagrid, I found something very strange at the bottom of the lake. It looks like a dragon made of cattails!"

Zhuo Bi and You Qian were both taken aback. They rarely heard Qi Qi speak in the group, and they were even more confused by what she said. In their eyes, the lush seaweed in front of them formed all sorts of shapes, some like a cow, some like an elephant, and some like a horse. Just like the clouds in the sky, the seaweed swayed around with the current and it was normal for it to form any shape.

But to their even greater surprise, Hagrid immediately replied to Kiki: A dragon made of cattails? ...Could it be something the Ministry of Magic put in the lake last night? I suspect it might be a kelpie; stay away from them!

But Hagrid's reply came a little too late, because Kiki had already swum to the long dragon of cattails, because she thought it was really beautiful and full of vitality.

As Hagrid shooed her away, she instinctively grabbed the hilt of the knife behind her back, and the thing in front of her, made of seaweed, suddenly opened a large, dark eye.

Kiki was startled, but the next scene clearly showed that the other party was not a gentle and kind little animal. Suddenly, a big mouth opened from the seaweed and bit at Kiki's waist.

Hagrid also explained to everyone in the team chat: The Kelpie can transform into various shapes, most commonly appearing in shallow water as a horse, with broad-leaved cattails serving as its mane. It lures curious and careless people onto its back, then plunges into the bottom of rivers or lakes, devouring them and leaving their internal organs floating on the surface.

The correct way to defeat the horse-shaped water monster is to use a placement charm to put a horse bridle on its head. It will then become docile and obedient and no longer pose a threat to you. However, do not let it go easily, as it will hold a grudge and curse you.

While barely dodging that crocodile-like maw, Kiki was speechless as she read Hagrid's explanation. "Don't you know I don't know magic? Tell me a trick that even an ordinary person could use!"

If Bai Lin were there, he would definitely complain as well. Why does every creature need a unique little trick to deal with it? How can adventurers carry around all sorts of tools to deal with every dark creature in the wild? There are only thirty to fifty spells in the entire Harry Potter novel series, and it takes a wizard seven years to learn them. But to deal with the various creatures in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," a special spell is usually created for each animal. This is obviously unrealistic and unreasonable. When people create new things, they must pursue applicability.

Kiki, underwater, had already drawn her long sword and was slashing fiercely at the head of the horse-shaped water monster. However, although she had gained underwater breathing and faster swimming after eating the gill grass, the resistance in the water made her sword swings slow and weak. The horse-shaped water monster easily dodged and instead slammed its head, which was larger than that of an ordinary Friesian horse, into Kiki's stomach, making her dizzy and almost vomiting up everything in her stomach.

On the other side, Yuqian also spotted a giant beast covered in cattails in the water. Although she didn't think Bai Lin would be trapped by a water monster of this size, the horse-shaped water monster, which looked to be seven or eight meters long, obviously caused them a lot of trouble for their underwater search.

A horse-shaped water monster had spotted Youxi. When Youxi tried to swim away, it decisively gave up hiding and chased after her like a giant crocodile entangled in seaweed.

Yuxi, wand in hand, turned and cast a petrification spell on the horse-shaped water monster. However, the red magical energy she shot at the monster's head was blocked by the thick seaweed covering its body. Its nearly 60-centimeter-wide mouth was about to bite Yuxi's legs.

A glass-like spatial barrier unfolded behind Yuxi, and the horse-shaped water monster crashed into it. The immense force shattered the barrier, but it bought Yuxi precious time to escape.

Yuxi looked up and saw that Zhuo Bi had already appeared on the water above her head; it was he who had just released the spatial barrier.

The horse-shaped water monster closed its huge mouth, transforming into a clump of seaweed, and rushed towards Zhuo Bi above. Zhuo Bi was stunned. His reflection technique had a major drawback: it made him unable to move flexibly, making him a sitting duck in the eyes of the horse-shaped water monster.

Zhuo Bi gritted his teeth, took out a small mirror from his pocket, and threw it in front of him. Instantly, the small mirror turned into a large mirror that was two meters square.

The horse-shaped water monster rushed to the base of Zhuo Bi's head, suddenly opening its blood-red maw with enough force to swallow half of Zhuo Bi's body whole.

Zhuo Bi plunged into the huge mirror, and the horse-shaped water monster followed without hesitation.

Seeing Zhuo Bi lure away the horse-shaped water monster, Youxi couldn't help but feel a little worried for him. Zhuo Bi didn't have time to cast a spatial magic array (usually he needs to create three clones first, then form the three array eyes of the spatial magic array, and cast a spell at the same time to create the mirror space that trapped Bai Lin before). In his ordinary mirror space, he didn't have that much magical control. He could only say that getting the horse-shaped water monster onto land might give him a chance to win.

On the other side, Kiki had already fought the horse-shaped water monster for dozens of rounds. Although she couldn't use her exquisite swordsmanship in the water, whenever the horse-shaped water monster was about to bite her, she could always shove her long curved sword into the monster's mouth in time. As soon as the horse-shaped water monster bit, the blade would pierce its mouth. No matter how sharp and tough its teeth were, they were no match for the Damascus steel sword enchanted with the Divine Edge Charm. Not only did it fail to bite Kiki, it also broke several of its teeth.

With a swift movement, Qiqi's metallic right leg slammed into the horse-shaped water monster's forehead like a sledgehammer.

The horse-shaped water monster cried out in pain and instinctively shrank its head, giving Qiqi the perfect opportunity. She grabbed the cattail leaf on the monster's head, plunged her curved knife into the scabbard behind her back, and was now straddling the monster's neck.

"I can tame you even without a bridle!" Kiki thought to herself. She gripped the seaweed on both sides of the horse-shaped water monster's neck tightly, her legs clamping around its neck as well. She pressed her body against the monster's head, letting it roll and struggle, but she wouldn't let go.

The horse-shaped water monster first frantically rubbed against the rocks at the bottom of the water, but Kiki always managed to avoid it in time, and even used the thick cattail grass on the monster's body to protect herself.

The horse-shaped water monster rushed towards the surface of the water at high speed, like a dolphin performing in an aquarium, leaping up from the water and soaring nearly six meters into the air before crashing back down.

For an ordinary person, when leaping out of the water, the water pressure in their lungs would immediately disappear, and they would usually take a deep breath. When they slam back into the water, not only would the impact cause injury and pain, but the breath they had just inhaled would be expelled instantly by the water pressure, causing them to choke on water. If one attempt wasn't enough, the horse-shaped water monster could do it again, enough to throw the person on its back off the water.

But Kiki is both a killer who has undergone hellish training and avoids choking on water because the gills form temporary gills, so the horse-shaped water monster's tricks are destined to fail.

A wizard from the Ministry of Magic, who was on patrol in the air, happened to run into a colleague. The two of them leisurely lit a cigarette and just happened to see the horse-shaped water monster leap out.

"Um, did you see that just now?" a wizard from the Ministry of Magic asked his colleague.

"Damn it, we secretly released them into the lake last night. Mr. Crouch said it had to be kept absolutely secret. How did these water monsters jump out on their own?" another wizard said.

"Who cares? It's getting dark, there shouldn't be anyone coming here... I wonder how the warriors who chose this side fared?" They obviously didn't see the figure on the horse-shaped water monster's back and gossiped to themselves.

"Who cares? It's just a competition among a bunch of kids... I think Mr. Crouch will give us a few days off after the competition..."

Kiki fell into the water and, without saying a word, punched the horse-shaped water monster hard on the forehead. Finding that it didn't have much force, she suddenly had a brilliant idea to deal with the horse-shaped water monster.

The seaweed on the horse-shaped water monster's body is very sturdy. It's not real seaweed that it randomly wraps around itself, but rather a camouflage structure that grows on its body. It's similar to bird feathers, but looks very much like a large cattail. This camouflage structure is very thick and can withstand most physical attacks and magical effects.

Kiki thought that since these seaweeds were growing on the horse-shaped sea monster, and hitting them wasn't effective, she might as well try plucking their feathers.

Underwater, where resistance is much greater than in air, striking is often less effective, but the pulling force is not reduced. With the help of the immense power of her magical prosthetic limbs, she squeezed her legs together and grabbed a large "seaweed" with both hands, pulling hard. The horse-shaped water monster felt a sharp pain on its head as a three- or four-meter-long, palm-width "seaweed" was pulled off.

Qiqi clearly felt the horse-shaped water monster shudder, and its erratic movements slowed down considerably. Overjoyed, she grabbed another large "waterweed" with both hands, as if she were about to pull it up.

The horse-shaped water monster was not without intelligence. Its series of actions after Kiki rode on its neck had already exhausted a lot of its strength. Kiki's "weed-pulling" tactic made it feel threatened. When it realized that Kiki was going to continue pulling, it was terrified and quickly stopped resisting. It hovered in the water and made mournful "woof woof" sounds, as if it was pleading with Kiki for mercy.

"Aha! Looks like I have a mount in the water now!" Kiki was overjoyed. She patted the horse-shaped water monster's head, still holding onto the "water plants" on its head with both hands, just like training a horse, directing the horse-shaped water monster to swim with her.

Just as Hagrid had said, the Kelpie became very docile and swam with Kiki underwater. It was much faster than the mermaid and could easily push aside seaweed and debris, allowing Kiki to see the underwater situation clearly.

Kiki: I tamed a horse-shaped water monster, and I'm riding it to continue my search!

Hagrid: Huh? You tamed a kelpie? A Muggle? ...Um, I mean, an ordinary person? Did you encounter a kelpie cub...blah blah blah...

Yuxi was immediately embarrassed. She hadn't expected Kiki to take care of one so quickly, while she was still saved by Zhuobi. Just as she was feeling a little bitter, the third horse-shaped water monster appeared. It wasn't as big as the first one, but it was enough to tear Yuxi to pieces. It seemed that the Ministry of Magic had really gone all out in this area, not only to ensure that Bai Lin would never return, but also to wipe out all the reinforcements who came to help him.

Without Zhuo Bi's help this time, Youxi swam away faster while her mind raced, searching for a solution. Although she was a wizard and certainly knew how to cast spells, where was she going to get a horse-shaped bridle? Did you think that thing was a common tool like nail clippers or a flashlight?

But she was incredibly clever. She suddenly remembered that in the first match, Krum had used the Eye Blindness Curse to blind the dragon guarding the golden egg, thus easily winning. Dragons are known to have strong magic resistance; ordinary black and white magic is largely ineffective against them. The Eye Blindness Curse was clearly an exception. (The Eye Blindness Curse is not an ordinary spell, but a curse, and only Durmstrang would teach it.)

Yuxi turned around and saw the horse-shaped water monster staring at her with its big, black eyes wide open. It was clear that the horse-shaped water monster also relied on sight to find its prey. Yuxi quickly recalled Krum's spell. She had wanted to help Bai Lin and see how the other warriors dealt with the fire dragon, so she had been watching very carefully. Surprisingly, she had actually come up with an idea.

"Kenzunk Kick Tasques!" Fortunately, Yuxi had an amazing memory. A black magical energy shot out from the tip of her wand, and the horse-shaped water monster that followed screamed and went black, losing its target.
