Hogwarts Summoning Guide

Chapter 156 War Messenger

Bai Lin ran down the hillside and saw Qi Qi rubbing her head as she climbed out of the flower field, which put him at ease.

Everyone looked at the figure in the pit. He was dressed in a very well-tailored suit, with a neat bow tie, one hand holding a gentleman's cane, and the other holding an old book with a hard leather cover. He didn't look like a priest or missionary, but rather like a nobleman who had just come from a royal banquet.

"Ah, I seem to be a little late, poor Lebahar, a bit unlucky." The gentleman walked as if he were on the path of his own manor, and with each step he took, the soil on the ground automatically turned into black marble steps, as if he would never let his shoes get a speck of dust on them.

Bai Lin pulled You Qian behind him and took a few steps forward. The "ball lightning" in the pit gradually disappeared, and Bai Lin could finally see the other person's face. It was a young face with a short, neat beard, a hooked nose, and thin lips. The only thing that made people feel uneasy and uncomfortable was his eyes. His eyes were unusually large, but there was no white in them. It seemed that there were more than 5 pupils in each eye.

"A compound-eyed monster?" Bai Lin blurted out.

"How rude of you... Messengers of the Sun God, is that how you address yourselves? I am Asatel, the messenger of war, the adjutant of General Grakua, a loyal retainer of my master, ignorant Earthlings, you are so fragile and hypocritical..." the other party said slowly.

"You don't need to be some alien monster like you to criticize Earthlings!" Bai Lin said coldly.

"No, no! You've got it wrong..." Asatel didn't seem to be in a hurry to attack, but instead adopted a teacher-student posture, saying, "We also settled on Earth, even before humans appeared, but for some special reasons, we left briefly for tens of thousands of years... Logically speaking, humans are more like outsiders than us... This Earth is especially special..."

"You've also invaded other Earths?" Bai Lin was somewhat worried about his original world. If it were attacked by the Old Ones, who could step forward in time to stop the crisis? The consequences would be unimaginable.

"Ah! You thirst for knowledge... then why not join the master's embrace... you will learn everything you want to know!" Asatel coaxed.

"Then I'm afraid I have to tell you, Earth doesn't welcome you. Go back to where you came from!" Bai Lin was too lazy to play mind games with Asatel, lest he be tricked by some kind of mind magic he had never seen before. Bai Lin didn't think he and his teammates were confident in dealing with it.

Asatel's face turned cold. He brandished his cane and said, "Foolish humans, have you ever witnessed the grand sweep of history, nor known what destiny and the future hold... Today, Asatel will show you the future!"

"Damn it! This guy is going to..." Bai Lin leaped up, intending to interrupt Asatel's spellcasting with a Shadow Arrow, but a ball of darkness suddenly rose from Asatel's staff, instantly forming a vortex-like thing. Before Bai Lin, Qi Qi, Ka Ka, and You Qian could react, whether it was their bodies or their minds, they were mercilessly sucked into the vortex, without any room for resistance.

The four of them suddenly felt dizzy, as if they had been pushed down the steps and crashed heavily to the ground.

When Bai Lin opened his eyes, it was already bright outside. Although there was a thick haze in the air and the buildings in the distance were not clearly visible, Bai Lin still recognized them. They had appeared in a London alley.

To be more precise, this is not London in the 1990s, but a more modern London. Bai Lin glanced at a dusty sports car parked in the alley, guessing it might be from 2020, or maybe even further back.

A graffiti on the wall of the alleyway caught Bai Lin's eye. It was a black silhouette of a witch screaming amidst raging flames, resembling a medieval witch hunt.

Bai Lin was taken aback. Qi Qi had already reached the alley entrance and turned to the side, saying, "You should take a look at this..."

The three of them stepped forward and were shocked by what they saw.

It looked like a chaotic battle with incredible destructive power had taken place here. Countless houses were destroyed, large areas of buildings collapsed, and the roads were blasted into many large craters. In the distance, half of a bridge fragment flew in from somewhere and smashed a residential building. On the other side of the street, there was a huge, bottomless crack.

"This is... caused by dark magic..." Kaka said, "A magical war?"

"Something's coming!" Kiki exclaimed.

Bai Lin followed Qi Qi and hid in a dark corner. Looking through the gap, he saw a drone flying out of the smog. Yes, that's right, it was a four-rotor drone. However, not only was a camera mounted on the drone, but a gun was also mounted on it.

Kiki whispered in surprise, "It's a cryptic weapon... This strange thing is used to hunt down wizards!"

No sooner had the words been spoken than a second, a third, and so on flew out of the smog, eventually forming a formation of thirty or forty drones that searched the ruins.

Bai Lin was so shocked that he couldn't speak. If this drone squadron could also be immune to magic, wouldn't the wizard hunters be able to leave nothing but desolation wherever they went?

The drone formation flew slowly by, leaving five drones behind while the others flew away into the distance.

Just then, the green light on a drone not far away suddenly turned red, and an alarm sounded on the drone: "Wizard detected, initiating hunt mode!"

The other four drones immediately surrounded them, only to see a figure rush out of the ruins. The figure threw a scarf into the air, and the scarf instantly grew dozens of times larger, blocking the drones' view. The person ran very fast and actually rushed towards the alley where Bai Lin and the others were.

Although he really didn't want anyone to attract those strange drones, Bai Lin couldn't stop the man's actions. Fortunately, his scarf interfered with the drones, and he miraculously rushed past the dusty sports car. When he passed by Bai Lin and the others, he even let out a surprised "Huh?" But he rushed to the alleyway without stopping, deftly pulled up a manhole cover on the ground, and jumped in.

Bai Lin looked back and saw that the drone had already shot the scarf to pieces. It was about to turn towards them. Bai Lin gritted his teeth, waved to his teammates, and the four of them ran like the wind into the alley, following the figure into the manhole cover.

London's sewers were nothing like those in Berlin and New York; they were only about a meter high, and the stench was unbearable. People had to wade through the sewage and huddle to get around.

Bai Lin walked forward for several dozen meters and found that the figure in front of him seemed to be waiting for him. He went up to take a look and saw that it was a wizard in his fifties or sixties. His face looked a bit old, but his spirit and physique were quite good.

"Why did you follow us here!" the male wizard said, somewhat displeased.

"We were fighting the enemy in Italy when we were accidentally teleported here. Can I ask what happened?" Bai Lin asked, half-jokingly.

The male wizard sized up Bai Lin and asked, "You are indeed wizards... Italy? How is the war?"

Bai Lin mumbled, "It's similar to here, the enemy is extremely powerful..."

The wizard sighed bitterly, "This was a premeditated genocide! The Muggles just dropped something called a missile over London, and it exploded in the sky. After that, all the wizards in London couldn't use teleportation magic anymore—Apparition, Floo Powder, Portkeys… everything became ineffective. Then those flying monsters started massacring the wizards!"

"Did someone fight them? I think the city was badly damaged by the war!" Bai Lin asked.

"Oh! Two wizard saviors!" the wizard said. "They led many wizards in a direct battle against those mechanical monsters, but no matter how powerful the dark magic was, it had very limited effect on those mechanical monsters. However, the saviors' efforts saved hundreds and thousands of wizards, allowing them to hide... Perhaps after some time, when the fog clears, everyone should be able to escape using teleportation magic..."

"Saviors? What are they called?" Kaka asked curiously.

Without a second thought, the wizard said, "It's fine to tell them. Their names are Karin White and Tom Riddle!"

"What?" The four of them gaped in astonishment, their mouths agape, as if they could easily fit several braised eggs inside. The evil Voldemort, the dark wizard Tom Riddle who struck fear into everyone's heart, had transformed into some kind of savior, and the other one was none other than Bai Lin himself.

"What's there to be surprised about? Follow me, we'll see the savior soon..." the wizard murmured.

As they walked, the wizard led them through the maze-like underground pipes, chatting as they went. Bai Lin then learned that the wizard's name was Davan, and he lived in London and was considered a local. Bai Lin did not reveal his name but instead called himself "Bailin".

After walking through the sewers for about forty minutes, Dawan finally said, "We're almost there!"

Before long, Bai Lin spotted a faint light ahead. Continuing on, Da Wan reached a vertical shaft and climbed up the steel ladder along the shaft wall. Bai Lin followed, only to discover that it was an abandoned subway station.

The entire subway station was pitch black, except for a small platform with a few oil lamps floating in the air around it, and a few wizards using fireflies for illumination.

On a platform not far away, a middle-aged man was giving a passionate speech, surrounded by a group of ragged people.

"That's the savior!" Davan exclaimed joyfully.

Bai Lin turned his head and saw Qi Qi frowning, her muscles tense. He nodded to Qi Qi, signaling her to relax.

"Since we're here, let's make the best of it... Everyone, let's adapt to the situation!" Bai Lin said in a low voice.

Kaka and Bai Lin exchanged a glance, while Youxi obediently followed behind Bai Lin, looking like she would do whatever the captain pointed at her.

"This is a provocation against God! Wizards had already achieved extraordinary things before Muggles had a written language in England! As everyone knows, the Ollivander family has been making wands since 400 BC, when the Muggles in Britain were still savages who ate raw meat and drank blood!" the middle-aged man shouted.

"Pure-blood wizards should be the rulers of the world! Wizards helped Muggles build civilization, and in the end, the Muggles are ungrateful! They tried to carry out genocide against the wizards. This is going against the will of heaven! It is outrageous!" the middle-aged man said emotionally.

Bai Lin took a step closer and was startled by the middle-aged man's appearance. This was him decades later! The hair color, the facial features, and the cat claw-shaped scar on his forehead. He quickly tidied his bangs to cover the scar on his head.

The middle-aged Bai Lin's words resonated with the wizards in the audience. They were all excited, clenching their fists and roaring, as if the Muggles' attack on the wizards was a violation of God's will.

"I didn't expect you to be so good at bluffing..." Kaka whispered to Bai Lin.

"Something's not right here. This is definitely not what the future looks like..." Bai Lin whispered. Before he could finish speaking, another middle-aged man climbed onto the small platform and stood shoulder to shoulder with Bai Lin. Bai Lin looked at him and couldn't help but frown.

The man was tall and thin, with a long face and deep, seemingly wise eyes. He had hair that was even blacker and shinier than Bai Lin's, making him look like an older version of Tom Riddle.

"Decades ago... people saw me as the Demon King! Just because I saw through the fog of the future! The world must be ruled by pure-blood wizards! You and I should both become kings and nobles! All Muggles should submit to the feet of wizards!" Tom Riddle said in a deep voice.

"It's all a dream... Azsatir's trick..." Bai Lin whispered to his teammates. He knew very well what Voldemort would look like after his resurrection; he would look exactly like Benbo'erba, not to mention whether he could even live to see the 21st century.

"All wizards! As long as we unite and show no mercy! Muggles..." Tom Riddle was getting more and more excited when suddenly, a loud bang came from the damaged entrance of the subway station.

Boom! Boom! The massive explosions caused the ground beneath everyone's feet to shake violently. The Muggle troops must have been using explosives to breach the entrance that had been blocked by the collapsed rocks.

A bright light shone from the entrance passage, followed by gunfire. More than a dozen drones emerged from the blasted gaps and began firing at the assembled wizards without a word.

"Obstacles everywhere!" Bai Lin, the middle-aged man on the platform, shouted. A stone wall suddenly rose in the passage, blocking the way for the heavy wizards. However, some wizards were still shot and howled in pain.

Tom Riddle waved his hand, and the wizards surrounding them were instantly pushed aside to make way. He confidently stepped off the platform and headed towards the drone.

"These machines are immune to petrification, stunning, disarming, and even unforgivable spells, but there are still some spells that can harm them!" Tom Riddle said.

As he spoke, he pointed his wand at the nearest drone that was firing a gun. Two huge blocks of concrete instantly clamped the drone down like two slices of bread sandwiching a ham, crushing it into pieces.

"Shatter to pieces!" Tom Riddle pointed at another drone, which immediately exploded violently. They were not made of flesh and blood, and they too would be harmed by the Shatter to pieces curse.

Tom Riddle gave the wizards a perfect demonstration, and they chanted slogans as they charged toward the drone.
