Hogwarts Summoning Guide

Chapter 14 Guardian Spell

But as soon as night fell, the castle gates opened without a breeze, as if welcoming warmly as dear friends. This time, the two were much better prepared; even Harry wore some raw leather protective gear to prevent himself from turning into vampires if bitten.

Although the castle wasn't luxurious, it was very clean, as if someone regularly came to clean it. However, after walking through a porch, he saw a group of brooms and mops cleaning themselves, like a group of robot vacuum cleaners, giving Bai Lin a sense of déjà vu that magic and science had converged.

There was no grand entrance of counts or nobles; they had barely entered the main hall of the castle when they encountered their first enemy—an attack of ghosts. Countless curious adventurers had perished within the massive castle, their spirits becoming vengeful ghosts that haunted its walls.

Unlike the friendly ghosts of Hogwarts Castle, such as the nearly headless Nick and the tearful Myrtle, who were just playing pranks (otherwise they would have been defeated by the wizards long ago), the vengeful spirits of Vampire Castle are more like the accomplices of vampires in Eastern mythology. Because they were killed by vampires, their souls were enslaved and turned around to help vampires kill other adventurers.

The vengeful spirits didn't have the complete forms of the ghosts at Hogwarts; they were more like the Dementors from the movies. Each one was terrifying in appearance and emitted a piercing scream as they flew past the two of them. Bai Lin felt a chill run down his spine and sensed that his soul had been affected.

Harry, standing behind, was even more terrified, his face pale and his head throbbing. Bai Lin recalled the first time Harry encountered Dementors on the train in the original story, when he almost fainted. It was because Voldemort's Horcrux inside Harry had a powerful attraction to the Dementors, which made Harry the target of their special "attention."

Consider today a rehearsal for the attack on the Dementors. Since the Dementors are afraid of the Call to Arms Charm, there's no reason why a low-level vengeful spirit shouldn't be immune to the light power of the Patronus Charm.

Bai Lin extended his magic wand, pointing it directly at the dozen or so vengeful spirits flying in mid-air, and shouted, "Call on God's Guard!"

Under Harry's adoring gaze, a golden owl appeared on Bai Lin's wand. It was Bai Lin's first time using the Patronus Charm, and he himself did not expect to summon his Patronus on his first try.

Although the owl is only the size of a fist, chubby and cute, it emits rings of golden light all over its body. The golden light spreads outward like ripples, and any vengeful spirits touched by the golden light scream in pain, not even knowing where to run.

Bai Lin was overjoyed, but the golden owl's appearance only lasted for less than five seconds before disappearing. However, the vengeful spirits in the entire hall looked much more miserable. Some of them seemed to be unconscious, hovering in the air. Bai Lin quickly activated the seal and cleaned up the vengeful spirits.

Bai Lin turned around and said, "Harry, the Patronus Charm is extremely powerful. Practice it diligently, and it can save you in your most desperate moments!"

Harry responded loudly.

The attack by the vengeful spirits had just ended when Bai Lin encountered a vampire from the Harry Potter world. However, he was quite disappointed by the appearance of the vampire. He had expected to encounter Count Dracula from the Van Helsing movies, who was powerful, versatile, and elegant.

Real vampires, however, peek out from the shadows, appearing far more wretched than ordinary people. They have eyes much larger than those of ordinary people, long and pointed ears, pale faces, and gleaming white teeth. Moreover, they come in all shapes and sizes; some have longer arms, while others have wings growing from their backs.

Harry swallowed hard. This was far more terrifying than the pictures shown in Defense Against the Dark Arts class. But having experienced the battle with ghouls, Harry was no stranger to such things. And with Bai Lin standing calmly in front of him, Harry mustered his courage and stepped forward to stand next to Bai Lin.

Bai Lin nodded to Harry and said, "Very good, try out all the new spells you've learned. I think the petrification spell is quite effective against vampires."

Harry gripped his wand tightly, feeling a surge of power coursing through his body.

Three weeks passed in the blink of an eye, and the start of the new school year was fast approaching. Large numbers of Hogwarts students flooded Diagon Alley. Harry, having just returned from his third training location—the Devil's Swamp—felt exhausted and his steps heavy. Along the way, he encountered many Gryffindor classmates: Morpheus, Dean, Neville… He greeted them casually.

Until he passed the Quidditch boutique, he was attracted by the most impressive broom he had ever seen in his life, and he couldn't move his feet.

"Firebolts!" the shopkeeper exclaimed enthusiastically in the window, "These are hot commodities! The Irish International Club placed an order a few days ago for seven at once. They're sure to shine in this World Cup!"

Next to the fire crossbow bolts was a sign introducing brooms, with flowery descriptions, but the final price was negotiable.

Harry swallowed hard. He loved the broom, but his Nimbus 2000 was fast enough and had never let him lose a game. He didn't want to empty Gringotts' warehouse just to get a new broom and then have to beg the Dursleys for tuition next semester.

"I'll order one." A voice came from beside Harry. Harry turned around and saw Bai Linyao, who poured a bunch of Galleons out of his wallet, causing a gasp from the onlookers.

"You are... Mr. Kaelin?" The shopkeeper clearly recognized this rising star from the Ministry of Magic and quickly counted out Galleons: "Exactly 200 Galleons, Mr. Kaelin. This broom is entirely handmade, and the delivery time is about two months. The remaining balance will be settled with you upon delivery, which will cost approximately 500 to 600 Galleons. Is that alright with you?"

Bai Lin waved his hand and said, "I hope I won't have to wait too long."

The shopkeeper, beaming with delight, wrote Bai Lin a magic receipt. Harry gasped at the price of the broom and cast an envious glance at Bai Lin.

Bai Lin shrugged and said, "You'll get one too, and it'll be in stock. Let's go, Hermione and Ron should be at the Leaky Cauldron by now."

Sure enough, as soon as the two arrived at the ice cream shop, they saw Hermione and Ron walking towards them from the direction of the Leaky Cauldron, carrying bulging bags.

"Harry! Harry!" Ron waved happily, his freckles so prominent in the sunlight, while Hermione had also gotten quite tanned.

The three good friends happily huddled together, and Ron said, "I've heard about your story... How did you get to Diagon Alley?"

Harry quickly introduced Bai Lin to them, saying, "I haven't had a chance to introduce you yet. This is Mr. Kaelin, our new assistant professor for the semester! Mr. Kaelin, these are my good friends, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley from Gryffindor."

Hermione and Ron then turned their attention to the young gentleman behind Harry, who was carrying four deluxe ice creams out of the ice cream shop. His handsome appearance even made Hermione blush, and she immediately regretted getting so tanned...

"Mr. Kelling! It really is you!" Ron's reaction was even greater than Hermione's; he practically jumped for joy.
