Bai Lin compiled a list of students who needed to take the Black Defense course exam. After counting, including those who were retaking the course and those who were taking it as an elective, there were more than 350 students in the whole school, from all grades. No wonder the teachers who took the exam seriously were so busy, while the teachers who just coasted through the exam finished with a paper.

Of course, there is another exception, Trelawney, who teaches divination. She interviews people one by one, and the results are entirely based on her subjective judgment, which is quite mysterious. Maybe she will give you an A (pass) or a P (poor) just because she doesn't like the clothes you wear that day.

Bai Lin, on the other hand, came up with a very interesting exam method that would allow all 350 students in the school to participate in this Black Defense exam.

At dinner time, a large blackboard was erected in the middle of the school's main dining hall, on which was written:

The Defense Against the Dark Arts exam will be held tomorrow morning at 9:30 on the Flying Course lawn. All candidates (all grades) are requested to be on time.

Exam content: Red Light, Red Light, Red Light

Exam Rules: Professor Kelling White, the examiner, will play the role of an evil dark wizard. He will switch between a dozing and a waking state. When he is dozing, candidates can approach him. When he is waking, he will launch dark magic attacks on candidates who are still moving (note that this is not a drill and there may be a risk of injury).

Candidates can use any defensive magic to defend against the examiner's attacks. Each round of state switching, candidates who are not knocked down will earn one point, until all remaining candidates enter the safe zone around the examiner.

The evaluation criteria are as follows: candidates who successfully enter the safe zone are rated O (excellent), and candidates who fail to enter the safe zone will be ranked according to their points. The top 20 will be rated E (good), candidates with 0 points will be rated P (poor), and the rest will be rated A (pass).

Banned items: None, but using items such as flying brooms or invisibility cloaks to reach the safe zone will only earn you an A grade (knowing how to use items to survive is a basic skill, but such cleverness won't get you far).

This news caused an uproar among the students. No one could have imagined that the Defense Against the Dark Arts exam could be conducted in this way. The other professors and Dumbledore were also watching with great interest under the blackboard.

"Isn't this a bit ridiculous?" Professor Flitwick muttered with a serious expression.

Snape snorted coldly, offering no comment, but his eyes held a faint hint of approval.

"Whether it's nonsense or not, we'll find out tomorrow when we go and observe together. Come on, ladies and gentlemen, let's have dinner!" Dumbledore said with a smile.

In modern terms, Bai Lin at Hogwarts would be considered a celebrity professor, and many students and faculty members also called him an eccentric professor. His behavior, teaching methods, and the way he would often disappear for several days at a time, leaving students to study on their own, all corroborated his reputation.

"I thought he was the only normal person..." Some students often complained, "Who knew he was the weirdest of the weird."

Regardless, the Flying Class lawn was absolutely packed the next morning. The last time it was this crowded was during Bai Lin and Snape's magical duel and their competition for the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. This time it was about Bai Lin again, and Snape, with a gloomy face, stood with his arms crossed, watching coldly from the sidelines surrounded by Slytherin students.

Nearly two hundred students did not need to take the exam, but they all came to the lawn as spectators. They were mainly repeat students and senior students who did not take the course. In fact, the number of defense against the dark magic spells that can be learned in school is very small. If you count all the spells, only a dozen or so are taught in seven years. Most of the time is spent on practicing speed and accuracy, or expanding knowledge.

Li Qiaodan was lucky enough not to have to take the exam, and he voluntarily became the commentator for the exam.

Bai Lin had already marked the lawn. He stood at one end of the lawn, with two circles drawn on either side of him as safety zones, while the students started running from the starting line three hundred feet away.

"It's a pleasure to be a live commentator for an exam for the first time!" Li Qiaodan said fluently. "Let me reiterate the rules of this exam..."

"The time when the dark wizard falls asleep and wakes up is decided by our little sister Vera!" Li Jordan said, pointing to a seven or eight-year-old girl beside him. Instantly, everyone's eyes were drawn to this adorable little girl who looked like a porcelain doll.

Li Jordan continued, "Vera is Mr. Sloan's daughter, who brings us food. She'll be singing a lullaby, and with each line, the dark wizard will naturally fall asleep. Speaking of which, this little girl's magic is quite amazing! But she'll need to rest after each line, and then the dark wizard will wake up! Do you all understand? The rules are that simple. Now, we'll wait for our examiner, Mr. White, to give the order… Alright, Mr. White has indicated that the exam can begin. All candidates, please prepare yourselves!"

All the candidates were ready to go at the starting line. Of course, nearly twenty of them were carrying flying broomsticks; they had been slacking off all semester and were determined to just barely pass. Most students, however, wanted to have some fun, since 300 feet seemed quite close, and could be reached in just over ten seconds by running at full speed.

As Li Qiaodan gave the order to start, the little girl Vera began to sing into the microphone. It was a rather famous lullaby called "Weightless," which listeners were said to feel as if they were floating, thus relaxing their minds. Bai Lin also turned around and pretended to sleep.

The candidates shouted excitedly and rushed out of the starting line, but because they were all focused on one target, many were bumped into or tripped right from the start. Meanwhile, the candidates riding flying brooms had already mounted their brooms and taken to the air.

Vera's first sentence lasted less than three seconds. At this moment, Bai Lin suddenly turned around, and the examinees quickly stopped in their tracks. Many of them had experienced the Black Magic Practice Class and dared not easily provoke Bai Lin's attack ability.

Bai Lin raised his hands and unleashed "Shadow Arrow Rain." A dark shadow condensed between his hands, instantly releasing more than ten shadow arrows.

Students on their legs could easily stop, but those riding brooms had a much harder time regaining their footing, instantly becoming Bai Lin's primary target.

"The students are in danger!" Professor McGonagall said nervously.

"The energy density is very low. You'll suffer a little, but there won't be any danger," Dumbledore whispered.

"He didn't use a wand!" Flitwick muttered. In fact, he and several professors, including Dumbledore, could cast spells without a wand, but that was the result of decades of immersion in research. However, Bai Lin was only in his twenties and already had such precise control over magical energy, so Flitwick was quite shocked.

This is the result of Bai Lin obtaining the "power of forgiveness". He discovered that he can use his fingers instead of a wand to cast spells. If he wants, all ten fingers can simultaneously command Shadow Arrow to attack ten different targets, which is why he can act as a wooden puppet and fight hundreds of students at the same time.

The first round was meant to teach the opportunistic candidates a lesson. All the candidates riding flying brooms were shot down by Bai Lin's two rounds of shadow arrows, howling on the ground. Although they weren't exactly injured, they were in a lot of pain, and it was impossible for them to continue taking the exam.

Hermione glanced at Harry and Ron beside her; they were in the middle of the crowd, which Hermione considered the safest position.

"The first round is a freebie. As long as you don't use your flying broom, you'll get at least one point... By the way, Harry, didn't you bring your invisibility cloak?" Hermione whispered.

Harry peered through the crowd at Bai Lin, who was "massacred" the flying examinees, and said, "I want to win fair and square!"
