Revelation of the Way of Heaven

Chapter 91 The Woman in My Dream

The light from the corridor streamed in as the door slowly opened, creating a narrow, triangular bright area on the floor near the entrance. It was indeed bright, because the floor was ceramic, and the reflected light created a strong contrast with the black figure in the center.

Because he was backlit, he couldn't see the person's face, but he knew who it was just by looking at their shadow on the ground. He was just curious as to why the person was there.

"What are you doing here?" he asked the other person.

"I came to see Uncle Xiaochuan," the little girl replied earnestly, though it was unclear how she managed to open the door.

Qin Xiaochuan didn't turn on the light. Xiaoying gently closed the door and walked step by step to his bedside. She stood there. The room was too dark, and Qin Xiaochuan could only barely make out her figure, so he couldn't see the expression on her face. But he knew she was watching him; he could feel it for sure.

"Did you come alone? Where's your aunt?"

"She's in her room. I told her I was going to see Uncle Xiaochuan, and she let me come over. She also asked me to bring this to you." As he spoke, he heard Xiaoying taking something out of her pocket.

"What?" Qin Xiaochuan asked her. As soon as he finished speaking, she placed her small hand in his palm. When her small hand was fully open, he felt that there was something in his palm.

Even though the lights were off, he knew what it was the moment he touched it. The feeling was so familiar; he still clearly remembered the days when it had "tortured" him.

A rhinoceros beetle, its tiny claws gently brushing across his palm.

"Why are you giving me this?" Qin Xiaochuan asked her, puzzled.

"Your aunt told you to bring this to the competition tomorrow; it will be useful."

He was even more puzzled. What use would it be? He couldn't very well have it play in his place.

"Okay, Uncle knows. Thank you, Xiaoying." No matter what, he still had to thank the little girl.

"Uncle, why aren't you asleep yet? I thought you went to bed early." Even in the darkness, he could still feel her bright, lively eyes darting around playfully.

"Uh, Uncle can't sleep," he said to her helplessly.

"When I couldn't sleep before, my mom would sing me nursery rhymes, and then I would fall asleep," the little girl earnestly offered him advice.

He couldn't help but smile knowingly. What a thoughtful girl! But then he suddenly realized that she had just mentioned her mother. How much longing was buried in her little heart?

"Does Xiaoying often think about her mother?" Qin Xiaochuan asked her gently.

"Yes," the little girl replied, "but I miss my dad more."

He didn't know what to say, or whether he should comfort her. He couldn't even fully understand her feelings, so how could he convince her with his words? He really didn't understand why fate had made her suffer so much at such a young age.

Just as he was filled with emotion, the little girl suddenly placed her small hand on his chest.

"Uncle, go to sleep now. Xiaoying wants to watch your game tomorrow." Perhaps because the past was so long ago, Xiaoying wasn't as sad as he had imagined.

He didn't go against her wishes and lay down with her help. Just as he was about to say something, he heard the little girl say, "I'll sing a song for Uncle, and then Uncle will fall asleep."

"Okay," Qin Xiaochuan said with a smile. He genuinely liked this cute and considerate girl.

"Then Uncle, quickly close your eyes," the little girl urged.

He hesitated for a moment, but finally said, "Uncle, just keep your eyes open and listen to Xiaoying sing."

"How can you fall asleep with your eyes open?" the little girl said discontentedly, as she reached out and covered his eyes with her small hand.

Helpless, he had no choice but to obey her. As soon as he closed his eyes, darkness invaded his mind. In no time, those familiar images began to creep into his mind. Just as he was trying his best to control his thoughts and resist these tempting and seductive images, the little girl's singing suddenly rang in his ears.

Baby, sleep so gently.

I will accompany you in your dreams

No matter how dark the night is

Loneliness cannot linger around you.

The nightingale will softly hum its song.

Can bring you comfort at any time

……

The little girl's voice was soft, gentle, and sweet, making him feel as if he were sleeping on soft clouds. Before he knew it, his thoughts soared along with her gentle singing.

Baby, sleep so gently.

Do you see that bright moon in the sky?

Tonight its radiance will spill into the rose bushes in the corner.

Tomorrow you will have no more sorrow.

As she sang, he seemed to see a large cluster of roses, but not at night, but in the daytime. The bright sunlight shone on the rose petals, and each petal trembled gently, delicate and beautiful.

In the midst of the rose bushes, he saw a gentle woman, but unfortunately, she had her back to him, so he couldn't see her face, only that she had long black hair.

She must be a gentle and tender woman, Qin Xiaochuan thought to himself. At this moment, she was walking slowly through the flower bushes, gently stroking each rose with her right hand.

"Yun'er." He was surprised that he called out that name, but he did, and he did so so naturally and affectionately.

It was a very strange feeling, a feeling he couldn't describe, as if the scene was familiar, and as if the woman in front of him was someone he knew.

He suddenly became very curious about who she was and why her name felt so familiar.

"Yun'er," he called again. He felt that his voice was not under his control; everything seemed to happen naturally.

Fortunately, the woman finally heard his voice. She suddenly stopped, her hand still on a rose, motionless, as if listening carefully, or perhaps she didn't hear it clearly and needed to confirm it again.

He wanted to call out again, but his throat moved and he couldn't make a sound. He didn't know if it was because he couldn't control his voice or because he was too nervous. He felt his heart pounding.

There was silence for almost twenty seconds, or maybe less, but it felt longer. The woman finally stood up slowly and turned her head. Her hair moved to the left as she moved, and he finally saw her bangs, but the hair in front of her face blocked her view.

Almost there, almost there. If only she had tilted her head just a little more to the left.

"It was all just bubbles, a fleeting spark..."

The phone suddenly rang from a distant time and space. Just as the woman turned her head in his direction, Qin Xiaochuan abruptly opened his eyes.

"Sigh, this call is really untimely," he thought with great disappointment. He picked up his phone and saw that it was Guo Shiyi calling.

He pressed the answer button, and Guo Shiyi's voice came through, "Teacher Xu asked me to ask you if you want to watch the match between the War Soul Team and the Myth Team."

"I'm not going," he replied briefly. He had things to do this morning, and he still hadn't mastered the Swiftness spell. He needed to make the most of this last half-day to practice it.

There was a slight hesitation on the other end of the phone before the question was asked, "Then you..."

"Don't worry," he told her. "Today we'll show them the true strength of our Qilin team."

"Great!" The little girl breathed a sigh of relief and immediately became excited.

He couldn't help but smile; it was time to vindicate the Qilin team.
