The VIP ward corridor on the top floor of Corning International was brightly lit, yet it was filled with a repressive and restless atmosphere.

Almost all of the core members of the Gu family were present. However, the air was not filled with deep concern for Bai Fang's condition, but rather with a sense of spying, scheming, and anxiety about dividing power.

The moment Gu Yanshen stepped out of the elevator, all eyes turned to him.

"Yan Shen!" Gu Qishan was the first to greet him, his brows furrowed, his tone carrying the usual insincere concern, "Where have you been? The old lady had an accident, why are you only arriving now, her eldest grandson?"

Gu Yanshen didn't stop. His gaze passed over Gu Qishan and fixed directly on Gu Yanbo's pale face not far away. His voice wasn't loud, but it was so cold it could chill you to the bone:

"I dealt with some people and things who were reckless and insisted on causing trouble at this time."

Gu Qishan was speechless at his blunt attitude.

Gu Yanshen stopped looking at him and walked straight to Gu Yanbo. Gu Yanshen looked down at him, scrutinizing him:

"The interim resolution of the US branch board of directors has been passed and is effective immediately. Gu Yanbo, you are officially relieved of all your duties and do not need to return."

"What?!" Gu Yanbo looked up abruptly, his face drained of color, filled with shock and rage. "Gu Yanshen! What right do you have?! Dad! Look at him!"

"On what grounds?" Gu Yanshen's lips curled into a cold, emotionless smile, his eyes filled with undisguised contempt and disgust. "On the grounds that the branch you're in charge of has suffered huge losses for three consecutive years; on the grounds that you spend less time at the company than you do in nightclubs; on the grounds that the funds you've secretly withdrawn and misappropriated from the company account under various pretexts over the years are enough to start another small company!"

He took a step closer, the overwhelming pressure causing Gu Yanbo to instinctively retreat: "Before, out of respect for Grandma, I couldn't be bothered with you and let you be a good-for-nothing who only took dividends and didn't do any work. But now—"

Gu Yanshen's voice suddenly rose in pitch, clearly reaching the ears of every member of the Gu family in the corridor:

"As the current president and largest shareholder of the Gu Group, I hereby declare that Gu Yanbo, effective immediately, is no longer an employee or manager of any company under the Gu Group! As for how many shares your father is willing to allocate to you for your retirement, that is a private matter between you two. From now on, you can peacefully be your spoiled brat and stop interfering in the company and jeopardizing the Gu family's legacy!"

The resounding verdict echoed like thunder in the corridor. This was a public humiliation of Gu Yanbo, a warning to all those who might be tempted to act.

Gu Yanbo trembled with rage, pointing at Gu Yanshen: "You...who do you think you are?! If it weren't for Grandma..."

"I am the current head of the Gu family!" Gu Yanshen interrupted sharply, his gaze sweeping over Gu Qisheng, Gu Qiran, and the others with their varying expressions before finally settling on Gu Yanbo's face. His tone was chilling. "My words are the company's decision. If you disagree, you can try using your pitiful few shares to see if you can make a ripple."

Gu Qisheng couldn't help but speak up: "Yan Shen! Although you are the president now, if the old lady's shares are distributed according to inheritance law in the future, all of us combined might not have less than you! Your current position may not be secure!"

Gu Yanshen slowly turned to him, his eyes calm and unwavering, yet Gu Qisheng felt a strange palpitation in his heart.

"Second Uncle," Gu Yanshen's voice was soft, yet carried a deeper chill, "so you mean you also want to follow in Yanbo's footsteps, leave the company, and peacefully retire at home?"

Gu Yanxu quickly grabbed his father's arm and whispered, "Dad! Say less!" He looked up at Gu Yanshen, pleading, "Brother, Dad just spoke his mind, he didn't mean anything by it."

Gu Qisheng felt a chill run down his spine from Gu Yanshen's unfathomable gaze, and swallowed the rest of his words.

Just then, the door to the intensive care unit opened. Xue Jingyan and several attending physicians came out together.

"Grandma needs absolute rest. Only one immediate family member should stay with her. Everyone else, please go home first and don't disturb her rest," Xue Jingyan said in a businesslike manner.

"I'll stay," Gu Yanshen said immediately.

"No way!" Gu Qiran immediately interrupted. "The cause of the old lady's poisoning hasn't been determined yet. Who knows if it was your wife who did it? What if you stay here and then stab her again?!"

Before he could finish speaking, Gu Yanshen's gaze suddenly shot towards him like a tangible ice blade! The ferocity and killing intent in his eyes were undisguised, making Gu Qiran feel as if he had fallen into an ice cave. The words he was about to say got stuck in his throat, and he subconsciously took half a step back, his back hitting the wall.

The air in the corridor was almost frozen.

Seeing this, Gu Qishan had no choice but to step in again to smooth things over, standing between Gu Yanshen and Gu Qiran: "Alright! Say less! The most important thing now is to take care of Mom's health!" He turned to Gu Yanshen, his tone softening, "Yanshen, your second and third uncles are getting old, and they're bound to be impatient. With me here and Jingyan looking after things, nothing will go wrong. You've been busy all day, go back and rest first, and while you're at it... keep Ranran company; she was frightened today too."

Gu Yanshen coldly swept his gaze over these so-called "relatives" before him, the last trace of warmth fading from his eyes. He didn't argue further, but simply nodded to Xue Jingyan: "Thank you for your trouble."

Then, he turned around, walked towards the intensive care unit, and after confirming his grandmother's condition, he left, completely leaving the Gu family members in the corridor, each with their own thoughts, behind.

It was midnight when I got home.

Only a dim floor lamp was left on in the living room. Lu Xiran was curled up on the sofa, covered with a thin blanket.

"Why aren't you asleep yet?" Gu Yanshen walked over quickly, his brows furrowed slightly. "Lying like this, you'll easily catch a cold."

"I can't sleep... How is Grandma? What did the doctor say?" Lu Xiran grabbed his hand, her fingertips were icy cold.

"She's stable for now, but needs to rest." Gu Yanshen sat down beside her and took her slightly cool hand in his palm.

"Did she really... eat something bad?" Lu Xiran's voice trembled slightly as she explained urgently, "I just made the most ordinary pork heart calming soup today. All the ingredients were fresh. I know Grandma is old and has a weak stomach, so I deliberately skimmed off the oil and didn't add anything extra..."

"I know, I know." Gu Yanshen interrupted her incoherent explanation, gently wiping away the tears that had unknowingly slipped from the corner of her eye with his thumb. His voice was low and firm. "It has nothing to do with you, Ranran. Don't overthink it."

He paused for a moment: "Preliminary tests show that some... things that shouldn't have been there were indeed added to the soup."
