Chapter 6: The Bone Demon Wolf!
…………
The moment we stepped outside the safe zone, the smell in the air changed instantly.
It's no longer the lively atmosphere of the city, but a primal scent mixed with rotting leaves, damp soil, and a faint smell of blood.
Logo didn't wander around aimlessly like a headless fly. He closed his eyes and expanded his necromancy to its limit. In his sensory world, everything around him turned grayish-white, except for the aura representing death and resentment, which appeared as faint black smoke.
"Over here."
He suddenly opened his eyes and looked at a dense forest to his left. There, a deathly aura lingered, much fresher than the aged gloom of the mass grave.
Logo kept a low profile and moved quickly through the bushes. About twenty minutes later, he arrived at a somewhat messy entrance to the valley.
In the dim moonlight, the sight before him made his pupils shrink slightly.
A fierce battle had clearly just taken place here, probably within the last day or two. Several large trees, each as thick as a person's embrace, were snapped in half, the breaks jagged and uneven, as if they had been violently broken by some immense force. The ground was riddled with craters, showing not only traces of fire magic but also several shocking, enormous claw marks, several inches deep.
In the center of the battlefield, scattered pieces of flesh and gray hair lay strewn about.
"It's the remains of a one-eyed demon wolf..." Logo stepped forward, squatted down, dipped his finger in some dark red soil, and smelled it. "There's also the smell of potions left by the hunter mage. It seems the demon-hunting team won; the corpse has already been disposed of and taken away."
Although the body was gone, Logo was not disappointed.
In his vision, several wisps of eerie blue light, invisible to the naked eye, floated above the ravaged land. Like fireflies, they hovered above the blood and flesh, about to vanish into the world.
That's a remnant of a soul!
The essence of energy left behind when a demon dies and its soul shatters!
"We're lucky. Although there's no essence, these few remnant souls are of very high quality. They should have been left behind by an adult one-eyed demon wolf."
Logo took a deep breath and extended his right hand. In his palm, the dark necromantic star trail instantly appeared, and an invisible suction force erupted from his palm.
"receive!"
With a low shout, the few wisps of pale blue light that were about to dissipate seemed to be summoned, rushing towards his palm before finally entering his body and disappearing into the deep, undead stardust.
An indescribable sense of fulfillment instantly filled Logo's mental world.
"With these, I can summon real undead creatures."
Logo stood up, looking at the faint light remaining in his palm, a cold smile curling at the corner of his mouth.
Logo's figure moved like a ghost among the shadows of the trees. Having tasted success, his movements became even more agile. Relying on the almost radar-like sensitivity of the undead to the aura of death, he found several more scenes of battles that had recently ended nearby.
"We're really lucky. It seems the one-eyed wolf's infiltration this time was quite large, and the hunting team has killed quite a few."
Behind a thicket, Logo discovered several more mangled corpses of one-eyed demon wolves. Although most of the valuable materials had already been taken by the hunter mages, the lingering, dissipating blue specks of light above the corpses were treasures the hunter mages could neither see nor take with them.
Logo skillfully stretched out his hand, a star trail flashed in his palm, and those few wisps of remnant souls were obediently absorbed into his spiritual world.
"Four or five more... Adding to what I collected before, I now have about ten slave-level remnants in my hands." Logo sensed the jubilant energy within the stardust, a glint of light flashing in his eyes.
After collecting the souls, Logo didn't rush to leave. He took out a specially made sealed bag from his backpack, and enduring the pungent stench, began searching through the mess on the ground.
"To summon the undead, in addition to the soul fire, a physical body is also required as a vessel."
Logo squatted on the ground, grabbed a handful of soil soaked in the blood of the dire wolf with his gloved hands, and stuffed it into his bag. Next came a few pieces of bone still attached to the tendons, and some half-charred remains of flesh and blood burned by fire magic.
The reason why necromancers were initially called a "bottom-tier" profession was not only because of the difficulty of training, but also because the training method of dealing with corpses and rotting flesh all day long deterred many pampered mages.
Of course, there are many more people who want to awaken the necromancy ability but can't...
But Logo didn't care. In his eyes, these weren't disgusting pieces of garbage, but rather puzzle pieces of power.
Before long, the sealed bag became heavy, containing a good ten or twenty kilograms of "materials".
"That's about it."
Logo weighed the bag in his hand and found a sheltered and secluded ravine. Surrounded by huge rocks, he didn't need to worry about being discovered by patrolling mages.
He poured the flesh, bone fragments, and blood mud from the bag onto the ground, piling them into the shape of a small mound.
"call……"
Logo took a deep breath and composed himself. This was his first true undead summoning, and although he possessed the inherited memories of an ancient king, he couldn't help feeling a mix of nervousness and anticipation.
He took two steps back, his eyes snapped open, and deep within his pupils seemed to burn two eerie green flames.
"Undead Summoning!"
Although he was chanting the name of a basic spell, Logo didn't cast it in the rigid way taught in textbooks. With a thought, the deep necromantic stardust in his spiritual world instantly boiled over!
The seven stars arranged themselves into a dark star trail at an astonishing speed. At the same time, the dozen or so newly collected slave-level remnants were thrown into the star trail as a powerful catalyst.
"rise!"
Logo gave a low shout and pressed his hands down sharply.
An extremely dense black aura erupted from his palm, instantly enveloping the pile of blood and flesh on the ground.
The once lifeless flesh and blood suddenly began to writhe violently, as if something was growing wildly inside. The broken bone fragments, drawn by the black mist, made cracking sounds as they automatically pieced themselves together, reassembled, and stretched. The blood-soaked soil acted as a binder, filling the gaps between the bones.
"Awooo—!!!"
A shrill, hoarse wolf howl suddenly rang out in the mountain valley, carrying a chill from the depths of hell.
As the black mist dissipated, a colossal creature appeared before Logo.
That was a giant wolf that was over two meters tall!
Unlike a living one-eyed wolf with a full mane, its body was mostly made of stark white bones, with only key areas such as the joints and chest cavity covered by a layer of dark red rotting flesh and hardened blood sludge. Where the single eye should have been, two eerie green soul flames now burned, flickering incessantly in their eye sockets.
