Chapter 197 [Goblin Legion] VS [Nazarick Guards]

Chapter 197 [Goblin Legion] VS [Nazarick Guards]

The flying squirrel is still observing.

His gaze remained fixed on the image displayed through the telescope. A formation of three thousand men, the woman carrying a hoe, the muscular soldier beside her, and then he saw the woman pull something out.

A small, bony horn.

A faint red light flashed in the flying squirrel's eyes; he recognized the horn.

[The Goblin General's Horn]

He had also accumulated a bunch of consolation prizes from the lottery system, but he was too lazy to use them after winning them. They could summon a dozen low-level goblins after being blown, but their combat power was not as good as the skeletons automatically generated by Nazarick.

What was that woman planning to do? Summon a dozen goblins to attack the city? Ainz Ooal Gown found it somewhat amusing.

Then the woman blew the horn.

Then five thousand goblins surged out of the void.

The red light in the flying squirrel's eye sockets froze.

He glanced at the vast green ocean in the mirror, then thought about the pile of dusty horns in his backpack. Same prop? The effects were completely different.

He quickly figured it out: the hidden conditions. This horn must have some special triggering conditions, and only those who meet the conditions can summon this complete goblin army.

He stared at the well-disciplined goblin army in the mirror and remained silent for a moment.

"Lady Momonga," Shalltear's voice came from the side, "It's only five thousand goblins. I can handle them by myself. Please allow me to fight."

Yaula immediately retorted, "You're getting carried away again. This is clearly a test; if you rush in, you'll fall into their trap!"

Demiurge adjusted his glasses: "Aura is right, these five thousand goblins are nothing to worry about, the real trouble is the three thousand behind them." He looked at Ainz, "Lord Ainz, you don't need to take action, I can use some tricks to deal with these cannon fodder for you."

"Silence." Albedo's voice wasn't loud, but it was effective. The throne room fell silent. "Lord Ainz, please give your instructions."

Momonga shifted his gaze from the telescopic sight to the faces of the Guardians.

"No need to send our main force." His voice was calm. "The enemy is using cannon fodder to test us, so we'll respond with cannon fodder as well."

Demiurge adjusted his glasses: "You mean—"

"Doesn't Nazarick automatically generate guards?" Ainz Ooal Gown said. "Let them go."

The guardians nodded in unison.

The Great Tomb of Nazarick has three types of exclusive guards, all of which are automatically generated for free. As many as they die, they are replaced. However, there is a limit to the number of guards that can exist at the same time, with a total of 6,000.

The first category, [Nazarick Veteran Guards], level 18, maximum 3,000. They wear simple armor, are equipped with magical weapons and shields, and are proficient in various combat skills. They are not particularly strong, but definitely qualified.

The second category, [Nazarick Elder Guards], is a higher-ranking version of the Senior Guards, with a maximum of two thousand members. They wear silver armor, carry round shields and daggers, and their weapons are enchanted.

The third category, [Nazarick Master Guard], level 30, maximum 1,000 members. They wear full golden armor, wield magnificent golden spears adorned with the emblem and banner of [Ainz Ooal Gown], and wear spotless crimson cloaks behind them.

Six thousand to five thousand, giving them a numerical advantage.

But Ainz noticed that there was a group of guys wearing red hats in that goblin army, [Red Hat Goblins], level 43.

The strongest Master Guardian in Nazarick is only level 30. That's thirteen levels less. In the game, a single level difference makes a huge difference, and a thirteen-level difference is enough for the opponent to slaughter you.

"Add something else," said Flying Squirrel.

He didn't specify what to add, but the guardians understood: Red Hat Goblins, they had them too.

Another point is that he will not let this army go out to fight. Nazarick is his territory. Every passage, every tomb chamber, and every corridor is a natural trap. As long as the enemy dares to come in, no matter how many come, he is confident that they will not return.

Five thousand goblins, under Anri's command, poured into the entrance to the tomb of Nazarick.

Then Anli lost contact.

It wasn't just a weak, intermittent signal; it was a complete and utter disappearance.

She had heard from the True Dragon King that Nazarick was protected by a certain world-class artifact, and that all information about its interior could not be gleaned from the outside. Now she was experiencing it firsthand.

She stood outside the gates of Nazarick, gazing at the deep entrance, and paused for a moment. Would the other person come out? Or would they remain hidden inside? She decided to wait.

The battle has begun on the first basement level of Nazarick.

Five thousand goblins poured into this dark underground space. The torchlight shone on the ancient stone walls, revealing a well-organized army with complete troop types.

There are a total of eight legions, each with a hero-level legion commander.

The Goblin Heavy Infantry Regiment, clad in heavy metal armor, wielding battle axes and large shields, marches in unison like thunder.

[Goblin Longbowmen], in bright red battle armor, longbows pointed diagonally, arrows gleaming coldly in the darkness.

The Goblin Assassination Squad, dressed in black and masked, blends into the shadows like water into water.

【Goblin Riders】, cavalry riding wolf-shaped magical beasts, their breath condensing into white mist in the air.

【Goblin Paladin Team】, paladins riding silver wolves, their armor as white as the moon, a total of seventeen riders, with the knight commander at the very front.

[Goblin Magic Support Team], their faces veiled in black robes, the light at the tip of their staffs flickering, ready to unleash powerful enhancements at any moment.

Magic that weakens, attacks, and defends.

The Goblin Magic Artillery Squad consists of five members, all specializing in area-of-effect magic, making them the strongest spearhead of the legion.

[Goblin Military Band], dressed in red military uniforms, as the taiko drums sound, they command the entire army with ease.

The Goblin Red Hat Guard consists of thirteen red-hat goblins, all at level 43. They all wear red hats, iron shoes, long scythes, and hand axes at their waists, resembling thirteen silent grim reapers.

There was also a Goblin Strategist, dressed in a turban and fan, standing in the center of the legion, his gaze calm.

General Anli's contact was cut off, but the strategist took over command.

He observed the terrain, analyzed the enemy situation, and then ordered a full-scale attack.

In the initial clashes, the goblin army gained the upper hand.

The Nazarick Guards emerged from the shadows—veteran guards in iron armor, elder guards in silver armor, and master guards in gold armor—silently confronting and silently battling.

However, the goblin legion was well-rounded and coordinated, operating with perfect harmony under the strategist's command. Longbowmen fired in unison to suppress the enemy, cavalry flanked them, heavy infantry advanced from the front, and magic artillery blasted open a breach.

The Nazarick guards began to retreat.

The goblin army pressed their advantage, chasing them deeper into the tomb, into narrower passages, and into the traps Nazarick had prepared for them.

Flames spewed from the walls, poisonous mist rose from the ground, falling rocks blocked the retreat, and spikes pierced the armor from beneath the feet.

The Nazarick guards stopped retreating and turned to meet the attack.

New guards emerged from the shadows to fill the gaps left by the fallen, while the goblin army remained unreplenished.

The Red Hat Guards began their harvest, and Nazarick also dispatched their Red Hat Goblins. Both sides were of equal level and number, and with the advantage of terrain and the aid of traps, they managed to hold off the thirteen Reapers with scythes.

As the goblin strategist watched the battle turn against him, he stopped fanning himself with his feather fan. He knew there was no way out; enemies were everywhere, and the path he had come from was blocked.

He paused for a moment, then gave the order: the entire army, fight to the death.

The final charge began. Goblin warriors roared as they charged into the enemy ranks. Longbowmen emptied their last quiver of arrows, drew their daggers, and plunged into the fray. The magic artillery squads unleashed their final, wide-range bombardment, exhausting their magical power. Even the taiko drummers in the military band threw down their drumsticks, picked up their battle axes, and the Red-Haired Guards hacked and slashed like madmen, their scythes spinning like whirlwinds.

When the last goblin fell, only a few Nazarick guards remained.

The ground was covered with corpses—green, gray, silver, and gold—and blood flowed in streams on the stone slabs, disappearing into the deeper darkness.

The underground level of Nazarick fell silent once more.

Six thousand against five thousand, all wiped out, leaving only corpses on both sides.

The real battle had not yet begun; among those corpses, not one belonged to the three thousand outsiders, nor to any of the guardians of Nazarick.
