Zhu Xian: They've all been reborn
Chapter 23 Kiss
Lu Xueqi returned to Xiaozhu Peak, but instead of going to the Jingshi, she went directly to Wangyue Terrace.
The Moon-Viewing Terrace was very high, and the wind was strong. She stood on the edge of the cliff, looking down at the sea of clouds. The sea of clouds surged like white waves. She watched for a long time, then closed her eyes.
Jiang Xiaochuan's face was in her mind. He asked her, "If I'm in danger, will you help me?"
She said yes.
She was telling the truth. She would. No matter what he had to do, no matter how dangerous it was, she would help him. Because he was Jiang Xiaochuan. He was her Jiang Xiaochuan.
She opened her eyes and looked into the distance. In the distance lay the Qingyun Mountains, stretching endlessly like a sleeping dragon. Grass Temple Village lay at the foot of the mountains, small and inconspicuous. She knew what would happen there. Monk Puzhi, Taoist Cangsong, blood, fire, and cries.
In her past life, she didn't know. By the time she found out, Jiang Xiaochuan was covered in blood and unconscious.
She held him in her arms and felt his heartbeat was weak, as if it might stop at any moment.
She was terrified, terrified to death. Terrified that he would die, afraid that she would never see him again.
In this life, she wouldn't let that happen. She would go ahead and stay in Caomiao Village.
She's at the eighth level of the Jade Purity Realm, and with her experience from her previous life, she should be able to stop a heavily injured Puzhi.
She gripped the Tianya sword tightly. The scabbard was cold, but her palms were warm.
She would protect him. At all costs.
Jiang Xiaochuan was inside the house, looking at Xiaobai.
Little White lay on the bed, eyes closed, tail swishing back and forth. Moonlight streamed in through the window, illuminating its white fur, making it appear as white as snow.
Jiang Xiaochuan walked over, sat on the edge of the bed, and reached out to stroke its head. Xiaobai opened its eyes, glanced at him, and then closed them again.
"Xiao Bai," Jiang Xiaochuan said softly, "I'd like to ask you for a favor."
Xiaobai didn't react.
"It's a very important matter," Jiang Xiaochuan continued, "It concerns the lives of many people."
Xiaobai still didn't react.
Jiang Xiaochuan gritted his teeth and said, "I know you're a nine-tailed celestial fox, very powerful. Could you... help me?"
Xiao Bai opened her eyes and looked at him. Her eyes were calm, like a deep pool, devoid of emotion.
"What are you busy with?" The voice rang directly in Jiang Xiaochuan's mind, clear and cold, like frost on bamboo leaves.
Jiang Xiaochuan was taken aback. He hadn't expected Xiaobai to answer. He thought it would play dead or ignore him.
"Caomiao Village," he said, his voice trembling slightly, "a year from now, a tragedy will occur in Caomiao Village. I want to stop it."
Little White looked at him for a long time. Then it stood up and jumped off the bed. As it landed, a flash of white light appeared, and the fox transformed into a human. Silver hair, white clothes, unrealistically beautiful.
"How do you plan to stop it?" Xiao Bai asked, her voice still cold, but with a hint of something else.
Jiang Xiaochuan stared at her, somewhat stunned. Although he had seen her once before, he was still awestruck every time he saw her. She was so beautiful, almost unreal.
"I...I don't know," he said honestly. "My cultivation level is too low; I can't win. But I want to try."
"Try what?" Xiaobai walked up to him, leaned down, and looked at him. Their eyes were so close that he could see his own reflection in her pupils—small and flustered.
"Let's try... to see if we can save those people," Jiang Xiaochuan said. "Even saving just one would be helpful."
Xiaobai stared at him for a long time. Then she straightened up, walked to the window, and looked at the moon outside. The moonlight shone on her, as if she were being plated with silver.
"I can help you," she said softly, "but on one condition."
"What are the conditions?" Jiang Xiaochuan asked immediately. "As long as I can do it and it doesn't harm others, I agree to anything."
Xiao Bai turned around and looked at him. There was a slight smile in her eyes, very faint, but Jiang Xiaochuan saw it.
"Give me a kiss," she said.
Jiang Xiaochuan froze. He stared at Xiaobai, mouth agape, at her breathtakingly beautiful face, at the hint of a smile in her eyes. His mind went completely blank.
"Wh...what?" he stammered.
"Give me a kiss." Xiaobai repeated, taking a step forward to get very close to him. "That's my condition."
Jiang Xiaochuan shrank back. "Why...why?"
"For no reason," Xiaobai said, "I just wanted to."
Jiang Xiaochuan looked at her, at her face so close to his, at the slight upturn of her lips, at the light shining in her eyes. He swallowed hard, his throat dry.
"Just...just for a moment?" he asked, his voice trembling.
"Just for a moment." Xiaobai nodded.
Jiang Xiaochuan hesitated. He looked at Xiaobai, at her face. She was beautiful, truly beautiful. But he… he had never kissed anyone. Not Lu Xueqi, not Tian Ling'er, not anyone.
But he thought of Grass Temple Village. He thought of those who were going to die, of Zhang Xiaofan and Lin Jingyu, and of the tragic events of his past life.
He gritted his teeth and moved forward slightly. Xiao Bai didn't move; she just stood there, watching him. The smile in her eyes deepened.
Jiang Xiaochuan closed his eyes, steeled his resolve, and pushed his lips forward—
bumped into.
Soft, cool, and slightly sweet. Like flower petals, like jelly.
He touched it, then immediately pulled away, his face turning bright red, like a boiled shrimp. He opened his eyes and saw Xiaobai smiling. Her eyes were curved like crescent moons as she smiled.
"Okay," Xiaobai said, her voice tinged with laughter, "I promise you."
Jiang Xiaochuan stared at her blankly, not yet reacting.
That's it? One kiss and she agreed? He thought she'd make some difficult demands, like making him her slave, or asking him for something. But... just one kiss?
He suddenly felt that he might have... gotten the better deal?
"You..." he began, as if trying to say something.
"I keep my word." Xiaobai interrupted him, walked to the bedside, sat down, and said, "I will go to Caomiao Village a year from now."
Jiang Xiaochuan looked at her for a long time, then lowered his head and whispered, "Thank you."
Little White didn't speak. She lay down, transformed back into a fox, nestled beside his pillow, and closed her eyes.
Jiang Xiaochuan lay down too, staring at the ceiling. His mind was a jumbled mess. Grass Temple Village, Xiaobai, Lu Xueqi, Tian Ling'er... just a kiss...
He turned over and buried his face in the pillow.
I don't want to think about it anymore. Time to sleep.
Outside the window, the moon was round and bright. There were many stars, like a handful of scattered diamonds.
The wind rustled through the bamboo forest.
One year. One more year.
Jiang Xiaochuan closed his eyes and fell asleep.
In his dream, he saw Grass Temple Village. He saw blood, fire, and people crying out.
He rushed over, wanting to save the person, but he couldn't run. His legs felt like lead, and he couldn't take a single step.
He watched helplessly as people fell, as fire engulfed houses, and as two children knelt in the ruins.
He woke up covered in a cold sweat.
It was still dark outside the window. Only the sound of the wind could be heard.
He sat up and looked out the window. He looked for a long time, then lay down and closed his eyes.
