Reborn in 1995, Criminal Investigation Records
Chapter 35 Zhao Jun, Zhao Dao
The investigation into the first victim, Zhao Jun, was conducted by the local police station. Zhao Jun was an abandoned baby picked up by her grandfather when she was young, and her later indulgence and illegal acts were probably also due to her grandfather's death.
"After this case, we must have Liu Da ask Chief Yan to apply for two more investigation teams. We simply don't have enough people!" Fang Duo jumped out of the car.
"You and Brother Chao should discuss this. It's not appropriate for me, a newcomer, to say this," Zhou Yang said with a smile.
In 95, the detective teams were not as clearly divided and stable as they are in later years. Now, it was common for a detective to lead a soldier, collectively known as an "all-around" detective.
"Come on, your words carry more weight than the two of us now. You have no idea how Liu Da looks at you right now, tsk tsk..." This was the first time Zhou Yang had ever seen Fang Duo with such a gossipy expression.
In her past life, although they were in the same brigade, their relationship was just so-so. All she knew was that her husband was a big boss who went into business, and nothing else.
The two did not have the local police officers accompany them, even though the officers were more familiar with the area. However, the investigation related to the second victim required their assistance.
The courtyard wall, which had collapsed in half, was patched up haphazardly with some branches and stones. The yard was almost devoid of weeds and had been transformed into a small vegetable garden, where various vegetables were planted.
This is the current situation in the village. These old houses that no one lives in are often used by neighbors or older villagers for land reclamation.
The two found an opening and climbed over into the yard.
The courtyard was small, with only one house facing south, held in place by a tree branch. Zhou Yang reached out and gently pulled, and with a creak, the door opened.
The house had about three rooms. The floor was covered with a thick layer of dust. In the center of the roof, there was a large hole that made the room bright. On the left was a small bed, about 1.5 meters long. On the right was another room with a broken stool. There was nothing else.
The walls have crumbled, and even the back wall of the main room, where clues are most likely to be found, has nothing left.
They exchanged a glance, then could only shake their heads helplessly and prepare to leave.
It looks like it's been abandoned for at least seven or eight years, and the things inside have probably been moved out.
Just as he closed the house door, the courtyard gate was violently kicked open from the outside, accompanied by a thuggish shout: "Damn it, we've got you guys cornered! Let's see where you think you're going to run today!"
Before the words were finished, a bald man, accompanied by two women who looked to be in their forties or fifties, blocked the entrance and tilted their heads to look at the two of them.
The man's gaze swept over Zhou Yang first, then turned to Fang Duo: "Outsider?"
"You trampled on my sixth aunt's vegetable garden, ruined her precious medicinal herbs, and damaged her imported pet dog that she's kept for over ten years. If you don't leave me ten thousand or eight thousand yuan today, don't even think about leaving this yard!"
......
"Officer, I really am a first-time offender. No, I was just helping out. You know, my sixth aunt came to my house looking for me. As a third-generation member of the Zhao family, even if I didn't want to, I had to step in." The bald man was squatting in the corner, his clothes slightly dirty.
"Um...comrade, I really didn't know you were police officers. I thought it was one of those drug thieves again!" One of the smaller women, her face flushed, twisted the hem of her clothes with both hands, looking somewhat at a loss. She was the woman known as Aunt Six.
Zhou Yang walked behind the courtyard gate and saw a bare, somewhat shiny area surrounded by a ring of slightly yellowish fuzz. A black fire poker was stuck in the ground, with a trailer strap fixed to it.
"The dog was tied up here before?" Zhou Yang reached out and asked, "What happened to the dog?"
"Let me tell you, officer, when I think about this, I feel sorry for my aunt..." Fang Duo frowned, "I wasn't asking you, so don't speak!"
"Yes...yes, the day before yesterday, I heard my dog barking several times in a row. I was playing with a croquet ring at the time and didn't pay attention. But the next morning, I found that the dog was dead." Aunt Liu's eyes reddened as she said this.
"I raised that dog for seven or eight years. It was very intelligent and would eat whatever I gave it. I don't know which idiot..."
Zhou Yang interrupted the other person's cursing: "Are you sure the day before yesterday was the day the dog barked?"
"I'm sure!" Aunt Liu nodded. "I was cleaning the grain the other day and I was thinking of tidying up the wheat circle."
"Did you see anyone that day? And did anything unusual happen?" Zhou Yang asked casually.
"No, right..." Aunt Liu said, glancing at the bald man squatting in the corner. Their eyes met briefly before looking away.
"Why not tie the dog up inside?" Fang Duo looked up at the narrow doorway; such a small doorway couldn't keep out the wind and rain.
"She wouldn't dare!" another, slightly taller woman scoffed. "He's afraid Zhao Dao will come after her in his dreams."
"Hey, Aunt Jiang, what's it to you? What are you babbling about?" The bald man stiffened his neck, which startled Aunt Jiang.
"What are you yelling about? Explain yourself!" Zhou Yang slapped the other person on the head. "Speak up when I tell you to! Shut up!"
"Which of you two will speak?" Fang Duo asked, looking at the two of them.
"Let me tell you, Zhao Dao was my former neighbor. He was a pitiful man. When he was young, a dog bit off his leg, and when he was old, he died in his house. When he was found, his body had been gnawed by rats," Aunt Liu said, pointing to the house behind Zhou Yang.
"Everyone says it's God punishing him. Otherwise, how could he have been dead for so long without anyone noticing? If someone hadn't come to his door, probably no one would have even known!"
As she spoke, Aunt Liu trembled all over: "You didn't see the terrible scene. That's why I didn't dare to go into that house. I kept the dog tied up so I wouldn't be afraid when picking and planting vegetables..."
Zhou Yang and Fang Duo exchanged a glance, both speechless.
The other person didn't seem to be faking it, but if you're so scared, why don't you just stay away from this yard and stop planting?
"How did the dog die?" Zhou Yang asked again.
According to Aunt Liu, the day before yesterday, the dog barked incessantly, but she didn't take it seriously. That evening, the dog had a good appetite, but the next morning, after washing the pot, she discovered the dog was dead when she went to feed it.
Finally, he sold the dog to a dealer, who told him that it had been poisoned by something called a dog poison bag.
"By the way, do you know Zhao Dao's granddaughter?"
"What granddaughter? She was just an unwanted little girl we picked up!" Aunt Liu grinned. "She was a complete waste of money raising her; she didn't even get to see her one last time before she died. What an ingrate!"
"Officers, what brings you here all of a sudden? Did that girl Zhao Dao commit a crime?" Aunt Liu's eyes lit up with gossip as she spoke: "I knew she wouldn't turn out well, and I was right. She must have done something, and I bet it's not a big deal."
"That girl was introduced to work in Pingqing, right? I heard the salary is quite high!" Aunt Jiang interjected with dissatisfaction, a small girl flashing into her mind.
"What high salary? Who knows what kind of shady business they're doing? They can do any job, why run so far away if they're afraid of being caught!" Aunt Liu retorted, grinning indignantly.
"How can you talk like that? I heard someone say years ago that they were doing legitimate business and making a profit from the price difference." Aunt Jiang frowned, feeling that it was unacceptable to tarnish the young girl's reputation like that.
"Exactly, exactly. She doesn't look like a decent person. She eloped with someone when she was young. It's a good thing her parents abandoned her early!" the bald man chimed in from the side.
Then, Zhou Yang lifted him up by the back of his neck.
