Chapter 26 Disco
Roy didn't immediately tell Geralt his judgment because there was still a major point of doubt:
That means the hunter Hack was originally a resident of the village. If he really was a werewolf who did evil, then the back forest of Scorched Wood Village should have had problems much earlier, instead of the serious incident that occurred only in June of this year.
Of course, it's also possible that a bloodline curse was lurking, and he only mutated into a werewolf this June.
In short, Roy didn't ask any more questions because the hunter Hack had already caught up.
"Master, the elder asked me to assist you in the investigation. Where do you plan to go first?" Hack asked as he caught up.
"The place in the woods where the most recent murder occurred," Geralt replied.
"If that's the case, let me get my hunting bow, Master. It's not very safe in the forest."
Geralt did not refuse, so Huck went home to get his bow.
Roy followed behind, leading the radish to Hack's house, tying it to his dappled horse, feeding it hay, and taking out a few pieces of jerky from his backpack to feed Coffin, then stuffing some more into his pocket.
When taking a dog out hunting or on a mission, it is generally not advisable to overfeed it. This will allow the dog to move more easily and be more energetic in the chase.
And considering that he might encounter something in the forest, Roy re-tied the black-tasseled spear to his back, while he never put down his rifle and pistol.
Incidentally, I called up the panel and anchored and allocated points to all the previously unanchored Demon Hunter bonds.
Let the warmth flow once again bless you!
"Actually, you don't need to bring so much equipment." Geralt shrugged, looking at Roy who was fully armed, and added:
"But if you're willing, after we've investigated the situation, we'll find a water ghost for you to practice on. You can't exactly use a... rifle when you're exorcising a girl, can you?"
"I have no objection, I just hope that unlucky water ghost won't have any either," Roy said, adjusting his rifle.
Geralt shrugged and said, "Once the water ghost's head is removed from its neck, it won't have any further opinions."
"Sounds pretty good," Roy replied.
"Let's go, it's time to head into the woods," Geralt called out as he saw Hark emerge with his bow.
……
Jiaomu Village Back Forest
For some reason, the howling of wolves always seemed to be around Roy and his companions, but the actual shadows of wolves never appeared before their eyes.
Coffin responded to the wolf howls, but it didn't cause any change; the wolves here were not the four wolves he had encountered by the river.
Geralt remained as calm and collected as ever, his gaze occasionally glancing at the quiver at Huck's waist, but he said nothing and simply followed silently.
Along the way, because of the constant howling of wolves, Roy didn't see many deer, let alone rabbits, until Huck told them they were almost there.
Roy then saw rabbits, deer... and, people...
The greenbottle flies were the first to buzz around them. The stench made Kofi screech a few times. Hunter Hack glanced at them, then, unable to bear it any longer, walked to the side, turning his back to the scene to stand guard.
Roy... felt a soreness in his throat and almost vomited.
When killing the bandits, even with blood splattering from their heads, Roy didn't vomit, and didn't even feel it very strongly.
But watching the greenbottle flies swarm together in a dense mass, watching the white disco maggots jumping and wriggling inside the bone cavity, as if dancing disco...
Roy was really starting to have a hard time.
Meanwhile, Geralt had already picked up the dry branches on the ground and thrown them at the clumps of disco.
hum!hum!
Green flies were startled and flew up in a flurry from the disco.
"Igni Sign"
Accompanied by incantations, Geralt thrust his fingers forward like a spear.
The flames then swept in a fan shape from between his index and middle fingers, aimed at the buzzing swarm of flies in the air.
Bang!
The toxic swamp gas cloud that formed above Disco was also ignited by this fan-shaped flame.
So, from the air, green-headed flies of all sizes rained down on the ground; and on the ground, the flies that were not yet charred struggled to fly away.
Their wings were completely burned through in an instant!
The stench of decay in the vicinity was somewhat masked by the even stronger burnt smell after the fire.
Roy's nausea subsided somewhat. Although the burnt smell was still awful, having experienced worse and worse things made it much easier to bear.
"Kid, I need you to clean up the wreckage so I can check the wounds."
But at that moment, Geralt, having finished casting the spell, spoke up and added:
"You'll have to get used to these things when you really want to go down this path and save your girl."
Upon hearing this, Roy took a deep breath, then exhaled sharply. He turned around, inhaled through his nose via his clothes, and then mumbled:
"good!"
But when he got to the disco, he really didn't know what to do.
"Use your hands to scoop them up and toss them aside, or pick them up one by one. Don't use twigs or a shovel, otherwise you'll damage the wound..."
Geralt's instructive voice sounded from behind him. Roy gritted his teeth and slowly reached down, but...
vomit~
Before his hands could even touch the bouncing disco, he couldn't help but run to the side and vomit.
"Are you alright, Roy? And Master, did you really have to do this?" Hunter Hack asked, watching the scene unfold.
Geralt crossed his arms and remained silent.
Roy vomited up a mess and then spoke:
"It's okay, I'm fine, don't worry about me!"
vomit~
"I just haven't gotten used to throwing up yet. Maybe if I keep throwing up, I'll get used to it."
vomit~
After a while, Roy, who would have been completely exhausted if it weren't for the extra effort he had put in before coming up, had layers upon layers of cloth straps tied around his nose, the kind he used to tie his spear.
His spear leaned against one side, as did his rifle.
He then threw the disco he was holding next to the vomit he had just vomited.
He almost threw up all the Polish dumplings he had for lunch.
But eventually, after vomiting for a while, I actually got used to it.
"Okay, that's enough!"
After a while, Geralt stopped Roy from doing his thing.
Geralt crouched down and gestured with his fingers over the remaining disco wreckage, then found several traces on the ground where the disco had been buried.
He stood up and said to Roy, "The claw marks here are very deep. You can compare them with the ones you left in Coffin."
Then, he got up and walked to another piece of wreckage. He even measured the distance between the two pieces of wreckage and said:
"Note this distance. An ordinary person wouldn't be able to cut someone in half at the waist with a weapon so thoroughly, and the distance between the two pieces of the remains is usually less than a step. Only a non-human could create such a tear."
"He was torn to pieces by the monster here."
"It was definitely caused by werewolves, so we need to be more careful. However, it's daytime now, so the chances of us encountering werewolves are not very high."
"Scrub your hands clean with the dirt on the ground, kid."
After Geralt finished teaching the last line, he stood up and said to the hunter:
"I've found what I was looking for, Huck, you can go back now."
"Go back and tell the elder that the Wolf King is a werewolf, and ask him to prepare four days of food and lodging for us. We will pay according to the market price."
"Four days from now, under the full moon, we will eliminate the wolf king in the forest."
"The traces here are too old to help us find the wolf king. Coffin, come here."
As he spoke, Geralt stopped Coffin from sniffing the wreckage.
And helped Roy pick up the flintlock gun and rifle, saying:
"Come on, kid, let's go to the water's edge and find a water ghost for you to practice on, so you won't hold me back on the day of the full moon."
With that, Geralt called the dog and headed towards the river.
Roy rubbed his hands with the fine soil on the ground, and then, after rubbing for a while, he resigned himself to his fate, got up, and followed.
Hack, still suspicious, stood there for a long time until he saw that the two were indeed heading towards the river, then frowned and turned back the way he came.
Only after learning that the hunter Hack had truly left did Roy lower his voice and ask:
"Uncle, is it really because the traces have been there for so long that they can no longer be tracked? I saw you stop Cofi's actions."
Geralt glanced back slightly, his ears twitching a few times, before replying:
"I'm afraid your dog nose is too sensitive, and you might follow the scent to our hunter guide."
"The bottom of Hack's quiver has a strange smell, exactly the same as the stench from the claw marks near the wreckage."
Roy's eyes widened; this was an answer he hadn't expected, and he really hadn't smelled anything.
Furthermore, why is it the bottom of the quiver, and not Hack himself?
Could it be that his previous suspicions were wrong?
"Alright, kid, go wash your hands by the river."
"There's a patch of water hyacinth in front of you. Crush it and rub it on your hands; it will quickly help you get rid of the rotten smell on your hands."
"However, don't think about getting rid of it completely."
"Because even if you manage to do it, the awful smell of the water ghost will tell you soon enough."
"Once you embark on this journey, you'd better not try to get rid of the smells, but rather get used to them."
Tsk!
Roy clicked his tongue and washed the stench off his hands with water lily. Although the lingering stench was truly disgusting, the message that popped up on the panel was surprisingly appealing!
[Geralt the Witcher's Bond +5] He has gained the White Wolf's approval as an apprentice. (Total 25)
[Gain +1 to the Witcher Bond] (Total 6, 1 more to come)
This was all achieved through the stench on their hands!
Furthermore, what about outsiders?
Could the progression be further divided into disciple, senior disciple, and beloved disciple?
I feel like I can look forward to this!
