Those who travel back in time

Chapter 24 Teaching a Man to Fish

After returning to her office, Chen Qing didn't turn on the lights, locked the door from the inside, and lay down on the floor to sleep.

"Why come back to check the data?" is just an excuse.

He actually had enough money to rent a place, but he felt it wasn't necessary. He'd slept in places like the apocalypse before, and this office was considered a pretty good environment.

Boom boom boom!

Chen Qing didn't know how long he had slept when he heard someone knocking on the door. He opened his eyes and sat up.

"Chen Qing? Are you inside?" It was Zhou Tao's voice.

Chen Qing turned on the light and walked over. "Brother Tao, what brings you here?"

"I must have been out of my mind to believe your nonsense about coming back to check the documents. You got scammed out of your money and don't have any left to rent a place, right?" Zhou Tao said irritably. "If I hadn't come, were you really planning to sleep on the floor tonight?"

"Actually, this floor is quite comfortable."

"Stop joking around, come on, let's go to my place."

"Brother Tao, you really don't need to."

"If you don't sleep well, how will you generate sales? If you don't generate sales, how am I supposed to get my five percent commission? Enough talk, come with me."

Chen Qing had no choice but to go with Zhou Tao. Their place wasn't far away; it only took 20 minutes by taxi.

The next morning, Chen Qing and Zhou Tao went to the company together. After everyone had arrived, President Wang introduced Chen Qing, the new employee, to everyone.

Then a group of employees stood there, lined up in unison, for the morning meeting. Chen Qing didn't understand why the morning meeting had to be held standing up, and why they had to shout and yell during it.

Chen Qing was also assigned a workstation. The computer was an old one that had been dug out of the warehouse. After it was placed on the table, Chen Qing was completely lost and didn't know how to assemble it.

He grew up in a zombie apocalypse when he was ten years old, and had never even been exposed to a computer.

Although he had seen Fang Xiande use a computer after arriving at Shuguang Hospital, he still didn't know how to assemble it.

"You don't even know this?" Seeing Chen Qing's helpless look, Zhou Tao left his workstation and quickly assembled the computer for Chen Qing.

"Your first-job gift." Zhou Tao also placed a black leather notebook on Chen Qing's desk.

"Thank you, Brother Tao." Chen Qing opened the notebook and found it was a handwritten "Office Survival Guide," which detailed the personalities and preferences of key figures.

"Xiao Chen, right?" Just as he was looking at the guide, a woman with curly hair came over with a stack of documents. "Perfect timing. Here are some paper contracts from clients who closed deals last year. Enter this key information into an Excel spreadsheet. The company will need to file them later, and you can also take this opportunity to familiarize yourself with our contract terms and procedures."

"Sister Wang!" Zhou Tao's voice rang out just in time. He smiled and stepped in front of Chen Qing, taking the stack of documents with him. "What a coincidence, President Wang just assigned me a task, asking me to take Xiao Chen to visit a client and quickly familiarize her with how to negotiate."

Sister Wang pursed her lips, said nothing more, and turned to leave.

"That's all her own work; she didn't want to do it and just dumped it on you," Zhou Tao said in a low voice to Chen Qing, then patted him on the shoulder. "Come with me."

"Today's client is a teacher. He has a limited budget but clear needs and is a meticulous person. Our goal today is not necessarily to close the deal, but to build trust and understand his core concerns."

"You've seen the information, but there's one thing it didn't mention. This teacher mentioned last time that he bought the house mainly for his child's schooling, and his wife works at the city hospital. So later, you need to pay special attention to what I say about the school district and commuting."

"Don't be nervous. You don't need to do or say anything during this meeting. Just stay by my side, listen and observe."

During a car ride to meet a client, Zhou Tao taught Chen Qing how to negotiate, giving him the skills to fish.

"I repeatedly confirmed the handover date with him, not because I forgot, but because I suspected he might need cash flow. Sure enough, he revealed that the old house hadn't been sold yet."

"Why did I stop emphasizing the school district and instead start talking to him about his wife working at the city hospital? Because he was already satisfied with the school district. I wanted to dig deeper, into his more personal motivations. A shorter commute is a real benefit for his wife too."

"I specifically did a calculation for him, converting the competitor's 'high-end landscaping' into the extra property management fee per square meter. You have to learn this, to translate all the competitor's vague advantages into concrete costs that customers can directly perceive."

After meeting with the client, Zhou Tao conducted a debriefing session for Chen Qing.

The leader assigned Zhou Tao to mentor Chen Qing, and he did so with great dedication. He not only helped Chen Qing become familiar with the company's business in the shortest possible time, but he also took Chen Qing with him when he met with clients, teaching her by example.

After being taught step by step for half a month, Chen Qing finally had her first opportunity to face clients independently.

After everyone in the office had left, leaving only Zhou Tao and Chen Qing, Zhou Tao draped his suit jacket over the back of his chair and sat down opposite Chen Qing.

"I'm about to talk to clients myself. Are you confident?"

"Not really."

"Okay, I'll be the customer and give you a boost so you don't get stumped right away." Zhou Tao stood up, frowning with a look of disdain. "This location is way too remote. There's not even a place to buy groceries around here."

"It is a bit remote here, but..."

"Stop!" Zhou Tao interrupted Chen Qing before she could finish her sentence. "Don't use 'but' sentences like that. Nobody likes to hear 'but.' And how can you admit the shortcomings so directly? You need to learn to phrase it differently. This isn't called being biased; it's called 'finding tranquility in the midst of chaos.' It provides a quiet place for children to study in the bustling city, and a peaceful space for the elderly to sleep. You can also tell the client that the price is so low because the facilities are currently incomplete. A school will be built to the east, and a shopping mall will be planned to the west. In two years, the price will at least double."

"I've got it."

"Again." Zhou Tao pretended to walk around again. "The living room is too small. It feels like it would be full if I put a sofa and a TV stand in it."

"This living room, this size..." Chen Qing wanted to say "secluded" as "quiet amidst the hustle and bustle," like Zhou Tao did, or use another way to describe the small size, but she couldn't think of a way to say it for the time being.

"If you don't know how to explain a flaw, then don't explain it. Step outside the problem and redefine it." Zhou Tao sat down in front of Chen Qing again and spoke to him in a tone appropriate for a client. "Sir, you're absolutely right. It's not that the area is too small; it's that our design philosophies are different. We allocated more space to the bedrooms and bathrooms. Think about it: the living room is for entertaining friends, but the comfort of the bedroom is what truly belongs to you. A good living room doesn't mean a large living room, but a living room that suits you."
