Chapter 46 The Girl's Faith Power Soars
Chapter 46 The Girl's Faith Power Soars
"My God, please hear my prayer."
In the dark and deep goblin cave, the petite priestess clasped her hands to her chest and made a soft sound.
This is the only thing she can do now.
"Please forgive my companions... It was not their fault that they were afraid of death; it was greed and overestimation of their abilities that led us to this state."
Her name is Nora, and two days ago she graduated from her church and officially became a new explorer.
Like most newcomers, they find fellow newcomers in the guild to form a team, and then find a suitable commission for newcomers to embark on their first adventure while working together to improve their teamwork.
Like most new teams, they planned to start with the simplest goblin quests.
However, on the task board they saw, there was a very special goblin task that offered three times the reward of a regular goblin task. Although they vaguely realized that this task was not simple, no one objected to the decision to accept it.
Everyone has a reason to need money.
As they ventured deeper into the cave, they understood why the reward for the quest was so high. The goblins here were numerous, well-equipped, and highly trained, far surpassing any ordinary goblin cave. None of this was mentioned on the quest board.
Even if they realized by then that this was no match for them, it was too late. They could only flee in disarray. Suddenly, the captain suggested that they split up, as this would increase the chances of someone surviving. Nora knew that this was just a ploy to trick her into going to her death to buy some time, but she still agreed.
"I hope they can leave this cave alive, take the information out of here, and prevent other newcomers from experiencing the fear I felt."
However, Nora was really unlucky. As she fled, her torch went out. In such a cave, without light, she could only grope her way to a corner to huddle in and wait to die. Before the goblins could find her by their scent, all she had left was to pray.
In her final moments, Nora was most concerned about the problematic request form. The person who made the request might have been hiding something and hadn't provided detailed information, but whatever they were trying to hide, it was unacceptable. It would cause a newcomer like her to come and die. If the team was wiped out, an identical request form would be posted on the request board three days later. She just didn't want that to happen.
Therefore, she sincerely hopes that her companions who left her here can leave alive and return to the guild.
"Finally, please forgive me for betraying your teachings and choosing to end my own life. I simply did not have the courage to face those monsters. Forgive me..."
She prayed again and again, gradually gathering her courage, and gripped the dagger, aiming it at her heart.
Just then, she heard some sounds coming from around the corner.
Nora frantically plunged the dagger into the ground.
The panic saved her life; her trembling hand prevented her from completely piercing her heart with the dagger. Then she heard that voice...
"Meow—"
It wasn't the sound of gugugaga, but a baa—Nora was completely stunned. Was she, this lost lamb, hallucinating, or had her ears malfunctioned?
The next voice both refuted and confirmed her idea.
"Mother."
"Meh?"
Nora heard a woman's voice, and then a nun carrying a torch came out from around the corner.
As she approached Nora, she spoke to the mother goat Nora was leading.
"Mother."
"Meh?"
The mother goat was heavily pregnant, so she walked very slowly. The nun walked slowly in sync with her. The scene resembled a saint in a church mural leading her mount toward the people waiting to be saved. Nora even felt a sense of holiness when she calmed down and looked at the scene.
Perhaps it was a messenger from God who came to take her away.
But why call your mount "Mom"?
Finally, the nun came to her, knelt down, and touched her forehead.
"No wonder no patrolling goblins came to deal with the mess in the maternity sac room. Turns out it was you little rats who snuck in! How are you? Are you hurt? Can you stand up?"
"Yes...yes..."
"Judging from your condition, I won't ask if you can still fight. Do you have a storage bag on you?"
Nora shook her head. Storage bags were expensive; how could a novice adventurer like her possibly have one? "Then what usable items do you have on you?"
That's all...
Nora pulled out a small bag containing some dry food, a water bag, two cheap daggers to be used as throwing knives, a rope, and two bottles of cheap herbal juice.
The nuns stared blankly at the contents of the small bag, as if surprised by what they saw.
However, she quickly recovered, grabbed some dry rations and stuffed them into her mouth, while casually hiding the throwing knife on the mother goat's back.
"Do you have any teammates? What's your class? What magic do you use? Do you have any powerful skills? How old are you?"
"My teammates and I escaped separately. I am a priest and I only know how to use healing magic. I am fourteen years old this year."
While eating, the nun bombarded Nora with questions, which Nora managed to write down and answer one by one.
As they started chatting, the sacred aura she had been wearing gradually faded. She realized that this was just an ordinary nun, but unlike priestesses like herself, nuns were people who had sworn to serve Goddess. If someone of her age hadn't taken off her nun's habit, it usually meant that she had made an eternal vow and would not easily leave the church. Why would someone like this be here?
"Big sister, what kind of nun are you?" she couldn't help but ask.
"The battle nun," the nun replied casually.
After eating and drinking her fill, the nun looked more energetic. Her arm holding the dagger felt stronger, and she casually swung it around to warm up, performing a rather impressive move.
"A group of goblins is approaching this way. You can't help, so just stay in your corner and don't move."
"I see..."
At times like this, Nora couldn't help but rely on this confident older sister, nodding vigorously like a well-behaved little pet, shrinking back into her corner, and quietly cheering her on.
Just as the nun had predicted, less than ten seconds later, a squad of fully armed goblins jumped out from around the corner, yelling.
The nun, holding a torch in one hand and a dagger in the other, swiftly and cleanly stabbed a goblin to death. Her attacks were extremely professional; she even twisted the dagger to widen the wound and bleed the goblin, killing it as quickly as possible.
The ruthlessness of the attack startled Nora; this behavior was completely different from the nun she remembered.
The ensuing battle was even more spectacular. The nun dodged and weaved through the goblin horde, the goblin attacks always managing to graz her, barely tearing her clothes in a few places. Although she had to use one hand to hold the torch and her only weapon was a short dagger, she always managed to strike with pinpoint accuracy, hitting the goblins where their defenses were weak.
That elegant and beautiful power was deeply imprinted in Nora's eyes, dispelling her fear.
Not long ago, it was this same goblin patrol that chased them into a frenzy, but they couldn't even last a minute against this nun.
For some reason, Nora felt her heart suddenly start beating very fast, and she experienced a strange and unusual feeling, thumping her heart.
The only one that required a little effort from the older sister was the best-equipped goblin. It was much larger than a normal goblin and therefore stronger. However, if the attacks missed, even if it was stronger, it was useless. The nun repeatedly stabbed its body to create wounds and quickly bleed it out. In just a few moments, it lost its fighting ability.
Then came the finishing blow; the nun ended its life. But killing this giant goblin wasn't the end of it. She immediately flipped its corpse over, pressed it to the ground, cut open the back of its head, and took out a shiny little thing from inside.
"That's... a magic stone?"
Nora had read in the Explorer's Handbook that if you kill a powerful monster, the first loot you should collect is the magic stone from the monster's corpse, which is often the most valuable part of the monster's corpse. She didn't expect that there would be magic stones in the corpse of a low-level monster like a goblin.
Perhaps only one can be found in the corpse of that giant goblin.
But in the current situation, who cares about magic stones? Being able to leave alive is already a blessing.
Nora wanted to say a few words to the nun, to thank her, to praise her, and to ask her to take her away, or at least to take the information out of here. While she was silently organizing her thoughts, the nun still hadn't finished her work. She stuck the torch in the ground, held the magic stone in one hand, and used a dagger to carve on it with the other.
Nora was a little confused by this operation. Did it mean that magic stones treated like this would sell for more money? The Explorer's Handbook didn't mention it.
"Meiyi"
The mother goat suddenly screamed in agony!
It knelt on the ground, its body trembling uncontrollably.
"Huh? Huh?"
Nora stood there bewildered for a few seconds, then ran over and cast a healing spell on it. Although she knew it wasn't the time to waste her magic, it was, after all, the nun's mount, and she wanted to help.
A few seconds later, Nora suddenly realized that the mother goat was not actually injured; she was...giving birth!
A baby goblin fell off its mother goat!
"Ah! How could this be!"
How could it be a goblin!
Nora's body trembled and she took a half step back, but she quickly mustered her courage and stepped forward, grabbing the dagger and stabbing down.
Before accepting the commission, Nora had learned a little about goblins. Goblin babies grow extremely fast. Within minutes of birth, they can walk like newborn fawns, stumbling and staggering. Within two or three days, they can begin to fight, and after a month, they can reproduce. Such evil creatures, even if they are babies, must be killed immediately!
The nun blocked the dagger she thrust down with all her might.
With a "ding" sound, the dagger was then taken by the nun and confiscated.
"Don't touch me, I have a clever plan for me, please don't touch me, I'm serious," the nun said, looking directly into her eyes.
As she spoke, the nun placed her hand on the little goblin's head.
Then, as if she had suddenly lost consciousness, she fell to the ground.
"Sister!!" Nora screamed in agony.
Holding the nun's unconscious body, she diligently cast healing spells repeatedly, unaware that the goblin baby had just stood up, wobbling and clinging to the mother goat's leg.
"6
"Guga..." Mom...
"Meh?"
The mother goat's weak voice held a hint of maternal love. She was not a monster, but an animal. Her limited intelligence was insufficient to understand why the child did not look like her. She only knew that the child came from her womb.
The little goblin stood still, as if pondering something or conducting a self-examination, then suddenly jumped up and down joyfully.
Amidst this eerie scene, the sound of goblin footsteps can be heard again.
"Ah... Sister..."
Nora had just accepted her impending death, but then a nun appeared who seemed to have come to save her, giving her renewed hope. Therefore, the contrast made Nora's despair all the more intense at this moment.
She held the unconscious nun tightly, not knowing what to do.
What followed was even more bizarre.
As the goblin squad charged toward Nora, wielding their weapons, the newborn goblins also ran toward them, colliding with the goblin in the lead.
The little goblin lost consciousness and collapsed!
What followed was a series of chain reactions, like dominoes falling one after another.
One goblin touches another, and the first one falls down. The goblin that was touched immediately turns around and crashes into the goblin following closely behind. From Nora's perspective, this goblin squad lines up in front of her and falls down with a series of cracking sounds, regardless of whether they are strong or weak, whether their equipment is tattered or sophisticated, as if they are being executed indiscriminately by an unseen hand.
"My God..."
Only a miracle could explain this.
Nora's young heart was devastated, and once again she clasped her hands together and prayed to her goddess.
The torch flickered, and the torch stuck in the ground was about to burn out. In the dim light stood the last goblin, but Nora's heart was filled with determination because of what had just happened. She believed that this was all the goddess's arrangement, and that the goddess would not give her a broken ending.
Sure enough, the goblin approached but did not attack her. Instead, it took the dagger that the nun had knocked away from her, walked to the side, picked up the magic stone that the nun had been carving halfway, and continued what it had been doing.
Just before the torch went out, the world was filled with light, real light.
Light emanated from the magic stone, illuminating the entire cave.
The goblin embedded the magic stone into the burnt-out torch, and a super lighting device was completed. Then it approached Nora and made a gesture that meant "Come with me."
Almost without hesitation, Nora got up from the ground and followed the goblin.
