Monster Dismantling Company
Chapter 7 Exploring the Skin of the Catfish King Dragon
The other monster dismantling companies in Ningzhou were almost all in place. Seeing that Fire Raven Company had started to take action, it was only natural for them to report it.
After getting off the car, Lin Zhifang immediately spotted Li Lin.
"My old friend, what's this all about today? Why did you have to jump the gun?"
"Don't worry about it for now, give me half an hour."
"Is your 'Khornea corrosion' acting up again today? You really should see a doctor to treat your squamous disease properly."
Scaly disease—that's his understanding of Li Lin's current condition—it's the manifestation of an ordinary person being eroded by evil energy.
The symptoms of squamous metaplasia are varied, and it can also cause the growth of scales and claws, making the person increasingly resemble a dragon. They may have bizarre dreams, and their senses may become more acute, to the point that they can even hear the sound of their own blood rubbing against their blood vessels.
At this stage, patients with squamous metaplasia will experience extreme suffering. Their five senses will be constantly overloaded, and before long they will go mad like monsters and disappear into the wilderness.
In principle, his power does indeed share the same underlying principle as the Scaly Disease. The difference is that he is not tormented by the malevolent energy, but rather uses it as a method to enhance himself. Because he is not a slave to this power; he is its master.
"Let me ask you first, what do you want us to do?"
"Stop work." He pointed to the pump truck that was already in operation. "I don't care what you're doing, you've already violated the relevant provisions of the 14th Edition of the Special Emergency Plan for Animal Disasters and Article 3 of the Ningzhou Monster Harmless Disposal Management Measures—I know all of these by heart. If you insist on continuing, you may face very serious consequences."
"Oh..." Li Lin nodded. "What are the consequences?"
"Your license will be revoked—and if you don't stop now, it will definitely be revoked. Furthermore, your current actions have already violated regulations. Because someone has already reported you, regardless of whether you stop or not, I have no choice but to report this to the Disaster Prevention Committee. So, stop now, Li Lin."
Li Lin adjusted his goggles: "I think the key is to emphasize the necessity of doing this—what we are doing concerns the safety of Ningzhou. Because we have discovered that Taba may explode."
"No," Lin Zhifang shook his head. "Everyone says it's a safety issue. If I let anyone in just because they say that, what's the point of having a disaster prevention committee? You need to give me a concrete reason."
His hint was quite clear—all you need is one reason.
However, Li Lin has no way to tell him how he feels right now, since Lin Zhifang doesn't live in his mind.
"How about this?" Li Lin thought for a moment, "You take us to see your superior, and then let him decide."
"Okay, but you need to stop work here first."
Li Lin glanced back at the scene. The liposuction was still in progress, and it looked like it would take some more time before they could reach the muscle tissue, while Taba could explode at any moment.
While they were talking, the drilling work was still going on and had not stopped.
"I see." Li Lin changed the subject. "These regulations and measures are all designed for the common good of humanity, right? So if my solution is more beneficial to humanity, shouldn't you make an exception for the greater good?"
"You're willing to make a contribution to humanity, is it really worth it for just a little while?"
"Yes, it's just a little bit more." Li Lin nodded. "The time you're holding me back might cause the monster to really explode."
"Prove it to me. If you can prove it, I'll help you get all the procedures running smoothly, just like before. Otherwise, stop work now."
"But I need to investigate to prove it to you."
"Then go check it out!"
"I'm investigating right now! I'm going to crawl inside!"
"No, you can't drill without permission! Unless you can prove it!"
"But how can I prove it to you if I don't drill open?"
Before the two started fighting, Master Wang separated Li Lin and Lin Zhifang—mainly because Li Lin also had considerable offensive power in this state.
"Alright, how about this?" Li Lin raised a hand. "I swear on my honor—this is true. Let's continue drilling. If there are no further problems, we'll proceed according to procedure."
He hoped Lin Zhifang could leave the matter alone. This would, of course, also place some responsibility on Lin Zhifang, since other companies had already filed complaints.
He looked into Li Lin's eyes and sighed, "Fine, your reputation stands with me. Did the Lin family owe you something in our past lives? Knowing you is truly the worst thing that could happen to me."
"Because you know my judgment is infallible, right?"
"Yes, yes, your intuition is even more accurate than my sister's." He opened the car door. "Get in, I'll take you to find the colonel. Is Master Wang coming along too? I remember you and the colonel were quite familiar."
"I'd rather not know him at all..." Shaking his head, he got into the car as well.
...
A moment later, he met the person he was looking for in the command post on a corner of the beach.
He was the commander-in-chief of the Ningzhou Disaster Prevention Committee and concurrently the colonel commander of the Ningzhou Defense Army Headquarters. He wore a defense army badge with his name and rank written on it: [Liu Haoran, Colonel]
The command post was bustling with activity, with four communications soldiers alone. They sat side-by-side, exchanging information through four different channels. The defense force's staff were gathered around a map, with the colonel standing on the inside of the map table.
Lin Zhifang had already gone in first and reported what had just happened to the colonel in person.
Upon hearing this, the colonel's expression changed drastically. Under the watchful eyes of his staff, he strode to the door and confronted Master Wang, demanding, "Wang Zihan, what kind of trick are you playing?"
Upon closer inspection, a shallow scar can be seen running across his entire face. This is a mark of battle fought against the enemies of the United Government.
However, he clearly knew Master Wang, and they were quite familiar with each other.
"Do I need to repeat myself? [Taba] could explode at any moment."
"If you're joking, then this joke is far too big—if you're serious, then I'll order the entire city's alert level to be raised to the highest level right now."
This presents the exact same problem as Lin Zhifang's situation. Decisions come with consequences.
Lin Zhifang was going to have to deal with a very serious disciplinary issue, but the colonel was going to have to take responsibility for something far more serious.
Once the colonel makes a decision, the entire Ningzhou disaster prevention system, along with the defense forces of surrounding cities, will have to coordinate accordingly.
If the deployment of military forces during this period leads to a breach in the defense line and causes problems, then Ningzhou will become a place where the feudal lords were amused by the beacon fires.
