Monster Dismantling Company
Chapter 18 The World Spins
The pain was so intense that it was etched into every piece of Taba's flesh.
The ocean is not Taba's home, but a prison that torments him. Only by returning to freshwater can he, as a freshwater fish, find peace.
Thinking about it carefully, it is indeed true—after all, [Taba] looks like a freshwater catfish, and under normal circumstances, it would be impossible for it to appear in the sea.
However, as is well known, sea monsters like [Taba] are formed in the depths of the Pacific Ocean.
Where do freshwater catfish come from in the depths of the Pacific Ocean?
Not to mention the number one monster that attacked from the sea this year, the "White Deer," which is not even a fish, but a terrestrial mammal.
No wonder the White Deer started running inland after landing.
—But precisely because of this, the meat of both the White Deer and the Taba was pre-marinated for a flavorful base. Moreover, because the outer layer is constantly eroded by seawater and constantly repaired by the monster's own powerful vitality.
Through this repeated cycle of destruction and repair, the flesh of both monsters became chewy and elastic.
If both are cultivated "actively" by people, then at least in terms of taste, this cultivation is quite successful.
Even Li Lin couldn't fathom who would breed monsters for the sake of meat quality—he genuinely enjoyed eating monsters, much like orcas enjoy shark livers. Big fish eat little fish, little fish eat shrimp—it's the natural order. But he wouldn't deliberately create a monster scourge just to obtain unique meat. He considered himself, at the very least, a human being, and he would act like one.
"Did you smell something?" Master Wang noticed that Li Lin was thinking about something.
"I was thinking, [Taba] was a fish with a tragic fate. We can't let him die in vain; we must eat him properly."
"If the plan goes smoothly, it should be possible."
If these passages can help them get close to Taba's spine and plant N5 bombs to dismantle Taba in an emergency, then even if some of Taba's flesh and blood are wasted, a considerable portion of it can still be served on the dinner table.
It tasted quite good. Li Lin was probably the first person to try [Taba]. From a diner's perspective, he would recommend everyone to give it a try.
However, the plan doesn't seem to be going very smoothly right now. They've been trying to drill through this wall for quite a while, but they still haven't seen the end.
"Damn it..." the colonel muttered, staring at the map. "This shouldn't be happening. With walls this thick, we should be able to see right out. Could the equipment be broken?"
"How about we explore this place one more time?" Master Wang suggested.
The colonel glanced at the wall that still couldn't be drilled through and nodded: "That's the only way."
The drilling work was temporarily halted, and ultrasonic detection equipment was deployed at the drilling face. Everyone retreated to the rear to take shelter.
"Three seconds left!" Master Wang raised his fingers. "3! 2! 1!"
As the countdown ended, a deafening roar was heard, and a massive beam of light descended from the sky, piercing through the tunnel's ceiling. Immediately following, a large group of people and equipment crashed down from the tunnel entrance, piled one on top of the other.
Master Wang's gaze was fixed on the screen—their equipment had been crushed to pieces by that group of people, leaving only static on the screen.
He abruptly shoved his headphones away: "What are you doing?!"
"Sorry! Sorry! We were drilling in our own path and accidentally went over the boundary!"
"What an old joke!"
"Sorry, sorry, I just fell down and haven't recovered yet..." The person who fell was quite optimistic—it was recognizable that they were from another monster dismantling company in Ningzhou, and the members of the defense force were also the colonel's subordinates.
However, the next second, they realized something was wrong—
Coming to their senses from the dizzying sensation, the group of people got up one by one and all looked up at the sky.
"What's wrong?" the colonel asked. "What's up there?"
"Commander! This...this direction is wrong! We thought we were digging forward, but then we dug a hole and suddenly we were all sucked in—we thought it was suction. But it turns out it's free fall. The direction of gravity up there is different from down there!"
Everyone fell silent.
Because this is beyond the current level of human science—the direction of gravity can actually change?
"Withdraw!" the colonel ordered immediately. "Everyone, retreat immediately!"
This is no longer a situation they can handle.
If it were truly a giant dragon maggot or something similar, they might actually be able to establish a defensive line and engage the dragon maggot head-on inside Taba's body using laser drills and other heavy firepower. However, faced with this supernatural phenomenon that could even alter the direction of gravity, the colonel would choose to retreat immediately, as it would be meaningless for the overall situation.
The group turned and ran—they knew exactly where they came from, because the operative at the back of the line had an optical fiber strapped to him. In any case, they could find their way back by following the fiber.
After running through the narrow tunnel, they wanted to jump down the cliff they had just climbed up, but there was only a wall behind them.
The optical fiber was deeply embedded in the wall.
Biu
A barely perceptible cutting sound rang out as the wall severed their last connection to the outside world, seemingly as a mockery.
Immediately afterwards, the sound of digging came from all directions. Beams of light, having broken through the boundaries, surged wildly throughout the space, and then people fell out from all directions through the opened holes.
The passageway, which could only accommodate two people at a time, was now crammed with seventy or eighty people. People were piled up on top of each other, and those who fell first couldn't even stand up anymore, because those who fell later landed directly on top of them.
When almost everyone had arrived, they all heard a sharp crack, like a silver bottle suddenly bursting open or glass shattering—the sound came from the wall the fire crow had previously passed through. The wall split open like a spiderweb, then revealed a large, dark hole. A storm sucked in from within, like a straw sucking up pearls, drawing everyone in backwards.
Only one non-human being remained standing in the same spot.
Li Lin's clothes fluttered in the wind, his feet rooted to the ground. The violent suction did not shake him in the slightest.
When the storm subsided, everything became quiet. Only the cave walls, torn apart by the storm, continued to drip blood.
Blood pooled together, reflecting his crimson figure.
Suddenly, the figure spoke.
(Obscure dragon language)
The blood-red shadow in the pool did not speak human language, but the entire space trembled in response.
