Chapter 2 Dare to Steal My Horse?
It was dark.
The two rode the same horse and galloped forward along the main road.
Although he seemed a bit gay, there was nothing he could do about it. He couldn't ride a horse anyway.
After bouncing up and down countless times, the two finally arrived at a small town before it got completely dark.
The town is very small. Apart from residential buildings, there are only five buildings that can be called commercial buildings: a general store, a gun shop, a stable, an inn, and a tavern.
The pervasive smell of urine and feces made him frown. After booking the best room in the hotel, he practiced loading the muzzle-loading gun in the room by the light of a kerosene lamp.
Leon, meanwhile, left the hotel with his revolver.
He first went to the stables and paid a dollar to store his horse, then pushed open the salon door and strode into the tavern.
The tavern was small, with a few tables and a counter. Many cowboys were gathered around the tables, playing cards and drinking to pass the time.
Leon glanced around, went to the counter, ordered a whiskey from the bartender, and then asked, "Sir, I'm a little lost. Excuse me, where is this? How far is it from San Francisco?"
"One dollar," the bartender said.
"What?" Leon asked, puzzled.
The bartender's iron-gray eyes stared at the young man before him, his voice as hard as iron. "Fifty cents is the price of the whiskey, and the other fifty cents is for the information you're asking me."
"Fifty cents a glass of whiskey? Why don't you just rob someone?" Leon cursed angrily.
A drunkard next to him heard this and laughed loudly: "Kid, where do you think you are? This is California, this is San Francisco, a place where gold is everywhere."
Six or seven years ago, at the very beginning of the gold rush, a glass of whiskey could sell for two dollars. Even drinking water was sold by the ounce!
Leon reluctantly pulled out two fifty-cent silver coins, and the bartender quickly pocketed the money and pushed over a glass of whiskey.
"This is Wolf Town. If you want to go to San Francisco, just head northwest, it'll take about two days on horseback."
If you're looking for work, there are job postings on the board next to you. Cowboys, bodyguards, farmers…they hire everything, but not miners. The two nearby gold mines are entirely staffed with Chinese workers, so there's no work for the miners.
Using the Hive Awareness skill to share information with Leon, he once stopped cleaning his gun.
Leon downed half a glass of whiskey and muttered, "All Qing Dynasty people? Damn it, doesn't your county government care?"
"The county government? They're arguing so much about a city-county merger bill that they have no time to care about us." The bartender sneered.
The drunkard next to him added, "Those damn Chinese don't ask for much money. Each Chinese man has to pay $20 a month in foreign miner tax. The bureaucrats and bosses all like them. They wish all the miners were Chinese."
"Respect to these damn bureaucrats!"
Leon finished his remaining whiskey, squinted at the sign, and asked, "The mine is hiring guards. Anyone interested should contact Mr. William Schneider. Where is Mr. William?"
"He comes here for drinks once a month from the mine. You can wait here for a few days, or go directly to the mine to find him," the bartender said.
Leon nodded and continued to mingle in the tavern, listening to the drunken ramblings of the other drinkers and trying to discern any noteworthy information.
Meanwhile, those inside the hotel began to ponder and plan for the future.
The short-term goal is simple: revenge!
The guards and bosses of the gold mine, and the scum who sold him to the gold mine, were all targets of his revenge.
To achieve this goal, three things are essential: people, guns, and money.
People can slowly take their time by summoning assassins; money buys guns, and the most important thing is money—the gold mined from the mines is a good target.
First, he'd send assassins to infiltrate the mine's security detail and find out the timeline and route the gold would take away. Once he had enough assassins, he'd ensure that not a single ounce of gold from the mine ever reached San Francisco!
……
The next day, it was broad daylight.
Once, after waking up, she took a shower and casually cut off her cowtail braid with a hunting knife.
After showering, I went out for breakfast, which was provided by the hotel: a cup of coffee, a bowl of corn porridge, and a small piece of salted meat. The taste was terrible and the portion was small; it wasn't even enough to fill my stomach.
He ate his food while frowning, while Leon, who had been guarding the door all night, got up and headed to the stables to apply for a job at the mine.
The stable door was only half open when Leon strode in. Inside, two white employees were feeding the horses. But his horse was not among them.
"Where is my gray horse?" he asked.
Upon hearing Leon's words, the white employee glanced at him and smiled, "Oh sir, your horse is behind us. I'll take you there."
Leon frowned and said, "Why should I go over there? Bring my horse over now!"
The white man's face darkened, and he gave a look. The two men immediately surrounded him from the front and back.
"Kid, I'll be blunt, we've already sold your Andalusian horse." The red-haired white man in front grinned. "I knew it last night, that horse belonged to old George. You killed him and stole it, didn't you?"
The brown-haired white man behind him sneered, "Billy, don't waste your breath on this kid. Kid, you have two choices. Either get lost, or we'll take your body to the sheriff."
Leon looked at the two of them and relayed all the information back to the hotel.
"You damn white guy, how dare you steal my horse?"
He sneered, and with a thought, used today's suicide squad quota. A burly young man appeared out of thin air, also with blond hair and blue eyes.

"Mein Herr!" said Death Squad Number Two respectfully.
Having examined the stats of Assassin Number Two, which were similar to Leon's, he said, "You shall be called Azrael."
"Grab the hunting knife and kill those two idiots in the stable. Then go have a heart-to-heart talk with the stable owner. Whether he knows about this or not, we have to get the compensation."
"Yes, my lord."
Azrael grabbed the hunting knife and ran downstairs.
The hotel was only a little over a hundred meters from the stable. He ran at full speed and arrived at the scene in a dozen seconds. The moment he stepped through the gate, he drew his hunting knife and plunged it into the kidney of the white man whose back was turned to him.
"Jack!"
Billy was shocked to see this and drew his revolver to fire. But Leon was faster and punched him in the chin, quickly disarming him.
Azrael drew his sword and plunged it into the man's heart, ending his life. He closed the stable gate, then walked up to Billy and asked, "Where's your boss?"
Billy, who was being controlled by Leon, struggled frantically and cursed, "You two damned maggots, let me go if you dare, let's duel!"
Azrael, expressionless, chopped off a finger from his left hand with a single stroke: "Where's your boss?"
"what!"
Billy wailed, still cursing, "Shit, scum, I..."
Before he could finish speaking, several fingers on his right hand were chopped off.
The emotionless voice rang out again: "Where's your boss?"
Seeing that Azrael was about to attack again, Billy finally became afraid and forced himself to say through gritted teeth, "His home is in the house behind the stables."
Before he could finish speaking, Azrael's knife had already plunged into his heart, sending him to join his companions.
The two men hid the body in a haystack, took the revolver that had fallen to the ground, and then headed straight for the house behind it.
Meanwhile, someone in the hotel whistled as they looked at the pop-up interface.
"Thanks to the two clueless people for sending me the upgrade experience."

"Does the cooldown of the 'Summon Assassins' function refresh when I level up?"
"And there's also a new skill..."
A new idea suddenly came to me.
It turns out he was planning to just run away, since Leon and Azrael had killed someone, and if the sheriff launched an investigation, he would find out that he had come with Leon.
But now, although he can no longer stay in the inn, it seems he can continue to stay in the town. As long as the new skill takes effect, this town might become his first base.
With a thought, another assassin appeared, and the two of them went downstairs together and headed straight for the stable.
