Chapter 21 The Fate of Destruction

"Sasuke, I'm saying this to you one last time."

Seeing Sasuke obsessively asking if his chakra was alright, even Naruto, with his good composure, couldn't hold back anymore.

"What you call a warm current is due to the temperature of the food."

"Your claim that you feel your body is full of energy and about to burst out because you've eaten enough is just because you've eaten too much and want to throw up."

"Our chakra increases after each meal, simply because our training pushes our bodies to the limit, exhausting our chakra. As long as we replenish our energy, we will naturally improve."

After giving this explanation, which he had given countless times over the past few days, Naruto looked at Sasuke's expression, which still seemed to say, "I understand, you don't need to explain," and felt utterly exhausted.

He simply couldn't understand why this guy would rather believe that his progress over the past few days was due to a culinary secret recipe he had casually made up than believe that it was due to his own hard work.

At the same time, thinking about the increasingly widespread and exaggerated rumors circulating in the village, Naruto felt as if the world had gone mad.

Sasuke, standing to the side, was truly moved by Naruto's expression.

"Naruto, you've gone to such lengths to keep me from getting distracted by material things?!"

In his eyes, Naruto's explanations during this period were undoubtedly aimed at maintaining his self-confidence.

After all, if Naruto really didn't want him to become obsessed with the power of the food recipe, he wouldn't have needed to tell him in the first place, right?

Thinking about the pride he had always displayed, Sasuke felt a warmth in his heart. He understood that this must be because Naruto was worried that he would doubt himself because of the effects of the secret recipe, thus giving up his efforts and becoming addicted to the false power of the recipe.

But that's impossible.

The blood feud he carried did not allow him to indulge or relax. If he couldn't use chakra, what difference would it make if he didn't have it?

Thinking of this, Sasuke looked at Naruto and nodded solemnly, "Don't worry, big brother, I understand!"

What did you understand?

Seeing Sasuke's serious expression, Naruto decided not to explain anymore and resigned himself to his fate by creating a shadow clone.

Sasuke's eyes lit up instantly when he saw Naruto's shadow clone.

"You're finally going to teach me!"

Just as Sasuke had predicted, Naruto's expression turned incredibly serious. He looked at Sasuke and asked in a deep voice, "Sasuke, answer me, what is a ninja?"

"A tool to get the mission done!"

Listening to Sasuke's rote answer, Naruto shook his head and said in a deep voice, "This is the standard answer, but it is indeed the most wrong answer."

"mistake?"

Naruto nodded: "That's right, wrong. Even though the foundation for the existence of the ninja profession seems to be just completing the employer's tasks, if you simply understand ninjas as tools, that's just an understanding of the profession, not an understanding of the identity of a ninja."

"The simplest example: if there are no more missions, will ninjas just disappear?"

Sasuke was taken aback by the question. He pondered it carefully, only to find that this seemingly simple question gave him an inexplicable sense of contradiction.

"Is it difficult? Let me ask you another question. If there are no mission assignments, will chakra disappear?"

This question suddenly made Sasuke feel enlightened. He looked up at Naruto, as if he had thought of something, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

"Looks like you've realized it."

Naruto smiled and continued, "The history of the ninja profession is only a few hundred years old, or even just the last one or two hundred years. Ninjas have only recently stepped onto the historical stage."

"So, chakra didn't exist during the time before ninjas appeared?"

Naruto spoke quietly, as if he had returned to the past, when his father had taught him the same way.

"No, there were samurai before ninjas, and onmyoji before samurai. There will always be people who possess power beyond that of ordinary people born in the world. Chakra is just a term used by ninjas to refer to power. Similarly, samurai and onmyoji would also have various names for power."

Naruto repeated his father’s words to Sasuke, word by word.

Listening to Naruto's words, Sasuke felt that the vague idea in his mind was becoming clearer.

"Therefore, the term 'ninja' is merely a general term for those who wield power, and ninjas are simply different ways of using that power."

At this point, Sasuke suddenly understood. He looked up at Naruto with immense excitement: "So, missions are just a way of life chosen by ninjas. Even without missions, ninjas still exist! The real core is chakra!"

"That's absolutely right, Sasuke. You're really smart."

Although Naruto's praise made Sasuke happy, it only lasted a moment before he became confused again: "But what does this have to do with training?"

Naruto smiled and said, "Of course it's related. If you can't understand this, you can't break free from the fate of a ninja."

"Destiny?"

"Yes, destiny, the destiny of destruction and self-destruction."

This statement also represents the biggest difference between this world and Naruto's world.

"Matter determines consciousness, and consciousness determines human behavior. The economic acquisition model as a tool led ninjas to see themselves as tools, and this objectification of themselves ultimately led to their self-destructive behavior."

Naruto's father's words echoed in his mind. Looking at the bewildered and confused Sasuke before him, he couldn't help but sigh, "Father, is this how you felt back then?"

He took a deep breath and said in a deep voice in the bright sunlight: "The so-called ninja is essentially just a person with power. In the end, a ninja is just a person, never a tool."

These words exploded in Sasuke's ears like a spring thunder. They were a completely different idea from the education Sasuke had received since childhood. But for some reason, looking at Naruto shining brightly in the sunlight, Sasuke had no desire to refute them.

A voice kept echoing in his mind.

"Naruto is right."

He opened his mouth, as if to say something, but found that he couldn't say anything at all.

Naruto, however, seemed to see through his thoughts and continued, "If you can't understand this, then self-destruction and being destroyed are your inescapable fate. So Sasuke, before you start training, you must first understand this."

"You are just a person who wields power. You can use your power to do what you want, but the premise of all this is that you are a human being, not a tool."

"I understand now..."

"You don't understand."

Naruto smiled and patted him on the shoulder: "But it's okay, we have plenty of time. Let's start with this shadow clone that you're really interested in, the one that doesn't leave any smoke."
