Global Best Actor: Starting with Picking Up Attributes in America
Chapter 22 Christine
Action movie filming begins!
The filming location was an abandoned industrial area on the outskirts of Los Angeles.
Chen Xun noticed that independent films with relatively low budgets often chose to shoot in abandoned industrial areas.
Several film crews are working on projects here at the same time.
The air was filled with the sounds of commands from different film crews and the sounds of explosions.
Chen Xun arrived ahead of schedule.
This was his first time working on set as a major supporting actor, and his feelings were completely different from when he was just an extra.
He found the location for "Dark Currents".
They received their own folding chair and a script with their character's name on it!
The page was densely covered with his action scenes and a few lines of dialogue.
The action director is still Mike.
He saw Chen Xun, walked over and greeted him: "Hey, Chen! Ready to get a beating?"
His tone was much more familiar than during the audition.
Try to eat as little as possible!
Chen Xun smiled.
"Today, let's film the showdown between you and Jack in the warehouse first."
Mike pointed to the interior of the dilapidated warehouse set up in the center of the venue.
"Jack, come here for a second!"
The villainous henchman Jack is played by a tall, strong white man named Tyson. He has short hair and looks like he's a formidable fighter.
He walked over, looked Chen Xun up and down, and his eyes were filled with disdain.
In Hollywood, Asian actors are not typically their type of rivals.
"Tyson, this is Chen, your opponent."
"Chen, this is Tyson. You guys familiarize yourselves with his moves first."
Mike demonstrated a set of choreographed fighting moves, which was much more complex than the one shown in the audition, incorporating more equipment and ground grappling.
Chen Xun concentrated his mind, mobilized his physical attributes, and quickly memorized the movements.
When Mike demonstrated a difficult dodge followed by a backhand grappling move, a blue orb of light fell due to the extremely precise and fluid motion:
[Physical Attributes - Prediction +3]
Chen Xun absorbed it immediately!
I feel my perception of my opponent's movement trajectory has become slightly sharper.
It was Chen Xun's turn to spar with Tyson.
Tyson initially didn't take Chen Xun seriously, and his actions were somewhat perfunctory.
Following the choreography, Chen Xun nimbly sidestepped to avoid his straight punch, while simultaneously using the iron pipe in his hand to parry, producing a crisp "clang".
The movements were clean and efficient, without any hesitation or slackness!
"Huh!"
Tyson's eyes changed!
"Not bad, kid!"
Tyson finished his stance, his tone becoming more serious: "Trained?"
"I've been learning from the stuntmen for a few days!"
Chen Xun answered truthfully.
"A few days?"
Tyson clearly didn't believe him, but didn't ask any more questions: "Again!"
Tyson became much more serious during the subsequent sparring sessions.
Chen Xun then made full use of the attributes he had absorbed over the past few days, such as [Power Generation], [Coordination], and [Reaction].
Although his strength and physique were far inferior to Tyson's, he executed the moves quite beautifully thanks to his excellent body control, anticipation, and fierce determination.
During one sparring session, he even subconsciously adjusted his body angle based on the force of Tyson's punches to make the movements look more realistic.
"Cut!"
"Very good! Chen, your reaction was very natural!"
"The director shouted from behind the monitor."
He was adjusting the camera based on the two men's movements, and seeing that Chen Xun was performing well, he couldn't help but exclaim in praise!
After several takes, Chen Xun performed steadily, with each take becoming smoother than the last.
During the break, Tyson walked over with his water bottle and bumped it with Chen Xun's.
"Dude, I underestimated you! You're not a newbie, you've got some skills!"
Chen Xun could sense the change in Tyson's attitude.
During a break in filming in the afternoon, Chen Xun went to the public rest area to get coffee.
This area is shared by several film crews, and there is a lot of traffic.
He was waiting for the coffee machine to start when a slightly hoarse, flat female voice came from beside him:
"Excuse me, could you please let me through?"
Chen Xun stepped aside.
I saw a thin young girl bending over and fiddling with something in front of the vending machine.
Her long, dark brown hair was a little messy. She was wearing a simple T-shirt and jeans, and her face was expressionless. She looked somewhat familiar.
It's Kristen Stewart!
Chen Xun recognized him.
Right now, with Twilight being a huge hit, she's practically an idol for teenagers across America.
She seems to be filming on a movie set next door, and looks like she came to buy snacks.
The vending machine was stuck. She pressed the buttons a few times without any response, and clicked her tongue in frustration.
Chen Xun had just finished receiving his coffee when he saw the situation and casually remarked:
"Try tapping the right side hard; sometimes there's a bad connection."
This was based on his experience dealing with various malfunctioning appliances in his previous work in dilapidated apartment buildings.
Upon hearing this, Christine turned her head to look at him, her eyes filled with a hint of inquiry, showing no airs of a celebrity.
She did as she was told and slapped the right side of the vending machine hard.
"Clang"
A bag of Skittles fell out.
She picked up the candy, glanced at Chen Xun again, and the corners of her mouth seemed to curve into a very slight smile.
Thanks!
His voice remained calm, then he took the candy, turned around, and left.
The whole process was very short, with no dramatic dialogue, just like countless fleeting moments on a film set.
Chen Xun didn't think much of it and took his coffee back to his film crew.
For him, it was just a slightly unusual chance encounter.
He's more concerned now with how to film the next scene without messing it up.
Back on set, filming continued.
Chen Xun immersed himself in the role and the action, constantly absorbing bits and pieces of attribute balls from Mike, Tyson, and even the cinematographer who was focused on designing the shots, mainly physical attributes and a small number of rhythm attributes.
On the first day after filming wrapped, the director specifically came over to Chen Xun and said:
"Chen, your performance today exceeded expectations. Your action scenes were very convincing, keep it up."
Chen Xun thanked him and packed his things to leave.
He felt a little tired, but more excited.
Through his own efforts, he has initially established himself in this action-oriented film crew.
As he walked out of the film set, he saw that the film crew next door had also just finished work. Christine, surrounded by a group of staff, walked quickly toward a van with her head down.
Chen Xun withdrew his gaze, feeling nothing in his heart.
That's Hollywood for you.
You might be sharing a broken vending machine with an international idol today, and tomorrow you might be back in your small film crew figuring out how to get beaten up in a funny way.
Filming on set quickly entered its second week.
Chen Xun had gotten used to the rhythm of the film crew. Every day, he would put on makeup, arrive on set, listen to Mike explain the action sequences, and then fight with Tyson.
He was like a highly efficient sponge, constantly absorbing all sorts of physical attributes that fell from the set, such as [power], [coordination], [endurance], and [reaction speed]...
Although most of them are gray orbs with +1, their large quantity makes up for it, and his limb attribute experience bar is steadily increasing.
Today we're filming a fight scene in a confined space inside a ventilation duct.
The space is very limited, and many common movements cannot be performed freely.
Mike encountered some trouble designing the movements; several options looked awkward, either the movements were too large and unrealistic, or they looked weak and powerless.
"Damn it, it's hard to even turn around in this godforsaken place!"
Mike scratched his head, looking at the narrow pipe scene and complaining.
