The Silent Witch of Hogwarts

Chapter 33: Making New Items

Loila is a woman of action, especially when it comes to matters of magic arrays.

"What are you going to do this time, Loila?"

That's right, Miss Lovegood is here too... Loila hasn't forgotten her promise to her friend that she would invite her next time she makes magic circle props.

Loila coughed lightly and then said, "Make a... a device that allows for long-distance communication..."

"Long-distance communication?" Luna tilted her head, pondered for a few seconds, and said, "Like an owl?"

"Owls shouldn't be able to be made, right?"

"More convenient than...more convenient than an owl..." Loila pursed her lips and glanced at Sia sitting by the window: "And...more reassuring too."

"Reassured?" Luna nodded thoughtfully. "The Ministry of Magic won't stop it halfway through, right?"

Of course not... I mean, they're nowhere near as scary as owls look... Ugh!

Loila saw Sia's head turn 180 degrees towards her again, and she quickly lowered her head and took a few deep breaths.

"Are these materials?" Luna seemed unconcerned with these, her gaze shifting to the bottles and jars on the table. "There seems to be quite a lot more than before."

"Is this new approach a good idea?"

Miss Lovegood is very perceptive.

Loila nodded slightly: "This time, I'll be using the magic array I've just learned." As she spoke, Loila felt a surge of excitement again, as if she had just learned the new ancient magic runes yesterday.

It really did seem like yesterday...

"These are two ancient runes I've learned about recently," Loila said, holding up the parchment in her hand. "The semi-circular rune represents connection, and the other represents transmission... Long-distance communication can be achieved simply by engraving a magic circle on two objects."

She paused, making sure Luna was still as interested as before, before continuing, "The Link Rune can establish a connection over long distances, while the Transmission Rune can transmit changes from one object to another."

"With this method... we should be able to achieve... simpler communication..."

"If it were engraved on a pumpkin, would people in Northern Europe know when it's ripe?" Luna asked in her pleasant voice.

"This...this won't do." Loila immediately shook her head, then realized that she might have been too quick to deny it. She quickly pursed her lips and explained in a low voice, "My...my point is...magic arrays cannot be engraved on living things."

"Plants are the same."

"I see." Luna nodded gently, then blinked. "So, who does Royla want to give it to?"

"Give it to...who?" Loila paused, not understanding Luna's meaning.

"Who should we give the communication magic item to?" Luna asked, sitting down next to Loira. "After all, it's supposed to be something for two people, right?"

"Ah... a magical artifact..." Loila was somewhat amazed at how quickly Miss Lovegood's thoughts shifted, but she hadn't really thought about this question herself... who should she give such an artifact to?

Mr. Lupin?

But Mr. Lupin said he would write to me in the form of an owl… and I have never received a letter from Mr. Lupin…

Or... Loila looked at Luna, who was sitting next to her with a smile on her face.

How is Miss Lovegood? Is this considered causing her trouble...? If Miss Lovegood gets this, I might not be able to resist chatting with her tonight... just like a friend...

"May I?" Luna blinked her beautiful eyes and reached out to pinch Loila's ear, who was lost in thought.

"Ugh!" Loila flinched as if electrocuted and took a few steps back. "I...I'm sorry..."

"You just said..."

"Can I have it?" Luna repeated, "That way we can chat and contact each other anytime."

"Miss Lovegood, would you like to... keep in touch with me anytime?" Loila subconsciously pursed her lips.

"Of course." Luna tilted her head and asked, "Doesn't Loila want to?"

"Or are you going to give it to someone else?"

"No, no, no... I didn't... that's not what I meant." Loila shook her head like a rattle.

"I thought this...would disturb you..." Loila said, glancing up slightly at Luna's expression.

Luna's expression remained unchanged; she simply said expectantly, "Of course not."

"We're friends."

Ah... I almost forgot, not only do I consider Miss Lovegood a friend, but she also considers me her third friend after her father and the Curved Horned Snork.

So this is what friends are like?

Loila blushed slightly and said, "Th...thank you..."

"Loira is such an interesting person," Luna chuckled. "Even though she was the gift you gave me."

So this is a gift?

I can't believe I've actually accomplished such a difficult task... giving a gift to a friend?

Loila said excitedly, "That's right...it's...it's a gift..."

"You should be thanking me... no... that's not what I meant..."

What am I even saying...? Sometimes Loila really wants to slap her own stupid mouth.

Let's just do it after Miss Lovegood leaves...provided she doesn't get angry about it.

Luna, of course, wasn't angry about this. She simply chuckled again and said, "Loira is sometimes funnier than Daddy."

I already said this isn't a good analogy!

………………

"Let's begin then." After a "tense and exciting" chat with Miss Lovegood, Loira was ready to officially start making the product.

The production time for this magic array item must have been quite long... after all, it was my first time engraving these two magic arrays... and on such a small thing at that.

As a magic circle tool that allows for communication at any time, Loila certainly didn't want to choose anything heavy or difficult to move.

Therefore, she chose a pair of wristbands... one on the left and one on the right.

Looking at the black leather wristband in front of her, Loila took a deep breath.

These wristbands cost her quite a few Galleons... These Galleons were the money Mr. Lupin left her for meals during the days he was gone; Loila, who didn't eat much, had quite a lot left over.

After selecting items in the morning, she chose these wristbands—a pair of ordinary cowhide wristbands, unremarkable and not particularly special in style, making them the best choice for a wizard who doesn't like to flaunt her wealth.

This wasn't Loila's idea; it was the GG term she saw at the time.

It's perfect for me...

Loila bit her lip, picked up the quill pen, and gently dipped it into the ink made from her own blood.
