Chapter 56 Heading to North Dakota, Dr. Rice's Pursuit!
An hour after the incident, police quickly arranged for a city lockdown. Fortunately, Logan managed to leave the city before the border cordon was set up. He could no longer stay in Las Vegas and did not intend to stop along the way. He planned to drive to North Dakota overnight, where Laura's friends on the border had a way to smuggle themselves into Canada.
The newly joined Victor had no objection to the proposal.
It was a very long journey, but Victor's arrival made the trip much more interesting.
Perhaps due to his advancing age, Victor gradually became a talkative old man. In addition, when he was working as a henchman for Notland, he didn't have anyone suitable to chat with. So when he met Logan and the others, he poured out his innermost thoughts and anecdotes from the past.
Over the course of more than a decade of arduous survival, there have been many interesting stories worth sharing.
Victor talked a lot about how he went from being a mercenary to becoming a thug, until the topic turned to Nottland.
Viktor felt nothing but rage towards his former employer, even knowing that Logan had already killed him, he still couldn't quell the hatred in his heart.
Seeing Victor's rising anger, Logan knew that his brother was back and would never bow down to anyone again. Perhaps from this night onward, the reputation of the Sabretooth would rise once more.
The long night eventually passed, the sky began to lighten, and the morning light shone on the car windows, while birdsong echoed from the surrounding woods.
Logan looked at the nearly empty gas tank and pulled into a nearby gas station to stop.
While refueling the car, they also replenished their daily necessities at a nearby 24-hour convenience store before driving off again.
However, what's giving Logan a headache right now isn't the long escape or the pursuers with noses like dogs, but the professor's medicine.
Before fleeing Santa Fe, he didn't have time to purchase enough medicine, and now the medicine bottles are almost empty. Without the help of medicine, the professor's health is visibly deteriorating.
But he was helpless. Although he had nearly $200,000 in cash reserves, he had no other way to buy medicine outside of Santa Fe City. In addition, given their identities, it was unlikely that they could openly enter the city to register and buy medicine.
Looking at the professor's aged appearance, Victor couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. The once brilliant mind had become so desolate in his later years.
This reminded him of himself, and from then on, the once-powerful saber-toothed tiger was reduced to a casino henchman who was at the mercy of others.
However, the professor was clearly in a worse state than him. At present, the professor could not even control his own abilities and was on the verge of losing control at any time.
Looking at the professor's appearance, Logan couldn't help but sigh. Helping the professor recover his health was of paramount importance at present, otherwise, if things got out of control one day, it would be an unimaginable disaster.
But aging is irreversible.
Of course, it's not to say that recovery is impossible. If the super serum could be obtained, the professor's condition could improve, and he would no longer need medication.
But it's clearly unlikely at the moment; they can only take it one step at a time.
...
...
...
The building was surrounded by police tape, and two bodies covered with white sheets were carried out.
Steve Rogers waved for the officers carrying the body to stop, then lifted the white sheet to reveal horrifying claw marks.
A body pierced through the chest, the heart instantly torn apart, blood staining the suit completely red, the terror before death vividly displayed on the face.
The other body was even more gruesome, with the head severed and the cuts smooth and sharp.
Steve frowned as he looked at the gruesome state of the two corpses.
An officer on the other side handed over a tablet. "Captain Rogers, this is the surveillance footage of the suspect."
Steve took the screen and immediately recognized the person in the image as Wolverine Logan. He murmured, "Why would he do that?"
Although Wolverine has a fierce nature, he is by no means a bloodthirsty person, and he would never kill ordinary people for no reason.
After a moment's thought, the officer replied, "He was probably saving someone."
"What?"
Steve was a little confused. He had just arrived and was not aware of the specifics, including the fact that there were mutants at the auction, so he didn't understand what the police officer meant.
The officer was about to continue explaining when he was interrupted by a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who arrived at the scene.
"Captain Rogers, I have received orders from Commissioner Fury to take full control of this case. No one may participate in this case without Commissioner Fury's consent."
The agent, dressed in a black suit and wearing sunglasses, with his burly frame, cut between Steve and the police officer.
Steve frowned and said, "I believe I have the right to participate in any criminal case involving mutants."
If it were just an ordinary case, he would naturally have no interest in getting involved, but this matter concerned Logan, his old comrade-in-arms, and he still had too many questions about this former comrade.
"Sorry, Captain."
The agent took out his badge, shook his head, and said, "My appointment was personally granted by Director Fury. I hope you will not interfere."
Steve glanced at the credentials; the Level 7 agent was indeed a high-ranking member of S.H.I.E.L.D., and given that Fury had personally appointed him, it was difficult for Steve to refute.
He had no choice but to nod. "You can take this case, but after you've investigated, send a copy of the information to my office."
Before leaving, Steve posed for a photo with the officers at the scene at their request. After the Battle of New York, Captain America's image had become even more deeply ingrained in people's minds, and he was already used to this situation. However, he simply couldn't muster many smiles now, as his mind was entirely focused on the case.
After the group photo was taken, my flip phone rang in my pocket; it was Nick Fury calling.
"Steve, Hydra has appeared."
Fury's voice came through the phone, heavy and somber, "Those guys seem to be up to something again. I need you back immediately."
Upon hearing about Hydra, Steve immediately perked up. "I'm going back right now."
However, no one noticed a bread truck parked in the distance from the building.
"Just as I thought, Logan did come looking for Victor. They really are brothers."
Dr. Rice, sitting in the passenger seat, stared intently at the sealed-off building.
"Doctor, they've killed someone; they shouldn't be staying in Las Vegas."
The driver was a mercenary leader who turned his head to analyze the situation for Rice.
Rice nodded. "Now we're heading to North Dakota. They'll definitely go to that so-called Eden. That damned woman Gabriella always talks about that childish Eden story. X-23 will definitely have Logan take them there."
boom! !
No sooner had he finished speaking than a violent crash suddenly came from the back of the carriage, causing the car to shake violently, like a wild beast trying to break free of its cage.
"Don't rush."
Rice gently patted the carriage and whispered reassuringly, "It will be your turn soon."
Whoosh!
boom!
In the black carriage, a steel claw suddenly appeared, scattering a dazzling, cold, silvery light.
