Chapter 50: He was actually an X-Men
Next to the hotel is a detached villa, which is where Jack and his family live.
The villa was much livelier than usual tonight, with the dining table full of people.
Jack introduced his family to Logan and the others, including his father, Mr. Bill, who looked about the same age as Charles and was also in a wheelchair.
And his wife, Ms. Helen, who was busy at the stove, with black curly hair and looking slightly plump.
There was also a son who looked to be just coming of age, and a daughter who was about the same age as Laura, on the table.
The family warmly welcomed Logan and his companions, inviting them to sit down at the table for a meal.
The dishes on the table were made with very simple ingredients, but they looked very thoughtful and were even carefully plated.
After everyone was seated, Ms. Helen served soup to everyone and prepared a pre-dinner snack for Laura separately.
"Don't be shy, just make yourself at home."
Helen smiled and said to everyone, "I hope you all enjoy tonight's dinner."
"Thanks."
Charles nodded to Helen with a gentlemanly air, cut a piece of pork chop and put it in his mouth, saying with a look of enjoyment, "They are very delicious."
"You're welcome, sir."
Helen sat down in her seat and said gratefully, "It was your son who saved my husband and our whole family."
The woman looked at Logan and thanked him, "Thank you. I was really scared when I heard Jason say he was attacked by wild boars. I was only relieved after I made sure he wasn't hurt."
"In that situation, I was actually trying to save myself, since I was also one of the wild boar's targets."
Logan smiled.
"No."
Jack said with certainty, "Those wild boars pose no threat to you. You could have survived even without revealing your abilities, but you chose to save me."
He was well aware of the current situation of mutants, and that revealing his abilities in public would definitely cause huge trouble, but even so, Logan still chose to save himself.
Logan laughed, "Actually, you saved me too, you tricked those guys, and you saved our lives too."
"Kind people are always rewarded with kindness." Jack smiled and pointed to the plate. "Eat up, my wife's cooking is the best in town, you really should try it."
Logan nodded and began to eat.
He noticed that Laura, standing to the side, would occasionally look up, her eyes filled with joy; the girl seemed to really enjoy the scene.
Indeed, with delicious food and wine, and the company of family and friends, Logan couldn't help but feel warm inside.
Halfway through the meal, Jack's father, Mr. Bill, suddenly smiled and said to Logan, "When Jack was very young, a mutant saved his life. The mutant carried him out of a fire."
He explained with a smile, "However, this happened decades ago. Jack was only five years old at the time. It's been so long that my memory of that period is already a bit blurry. And since then, there have been far fewer stories about mutants."
Logan looked at Jack with slight surprise, not expecting that his family had such a deep connection with mutants.
Jack smiled and nodded. "I was young then, but I remember it very clearly. They called themselves the X-Men, but unfortunately, they didn't tell me their names."
He sighed, "Unfortunately, the X-Men and the mutants disappeared together, and nobody knows where they went."
Logan and Charles exchanged a glance and remained silent.
Then Jack changed the subject and started chatting with the others about everyday things.
Everyone was very satisfied with the meal. Laura ate happily and afterwards, at the invitation of Jack's children, she went to watch TV, where a rare smile appeared on her face.
Charles and Mr. Bill talked about things from the old days, and many of their memories were both nostalgic and hilarious.
Logan suddenly seemed a little dazed, looking at Helen refilling Cardar's plate, and at the happy Charles, Laura, and the other children, feeling a strange sense of enjoyment.
This scene really resembles a family having a weekend dinner together. He can put aside the pursuit and the need to hide his identity and enjoy a leisurely time like a normal person.
Dinner lasted until late at night.
Logan and the others returned to their room. After taking a shower, he lay on the sofa, unable to fall asleep for a long time.
Charles suddenly emerged from the room in his wheelchair, looked at Logan, and said with a smile, "I knew you weren't asleep."
"I can't sleep."
Logan simply sat up from the sofa.
Charles pushed the wheelchair over to him. "Because of what Jack said?"
"Probably," Logan said with a touch of感慨 (gan3kai3, a feeling of mixed emotions, including amusement and regret). "I didn't expect anyone would still remember the X-Men."
He thought he had been completely forgotten by the times, and that the glory of the X-Men would never be mentioned by future generations.
But now, Jack's memories of the X-Men made his heart tremble, and he was even somewhat moved.
"That's a very distant name."
Charles's expression gradually turned sorrowful. "If it weren't for me, perhaps none of this tragedy would have happened, X-Men Scott Hank."
Seeing this, Logan quickly reached out and patted him on the shoulder, comforting him, "It's not your fault. The government can expel us for any reason, no matter what we did."
Charles sighed and then suddenly laughed, "Come to think of it, tonight's dinner party really did feel right. I even felt a little dazed, like I was back to my normal life."
Logan smiled, patted the professor on the shoulder, and said, "Don't worry, that day will come, but it's late now, you should go to sleep."
Charles nodded, letting Logan push him into the room and put him on the bed.
Goodnight, Logan.
He spoke to Logan as he was leaving.
"Good night."
Logan gently closed the door.
Back on the sofa, he took a deep breath, his eyes suddenly falling on the comic book that had fallen out of Laura's bag.
One of the pages above is an X-Men comic book poster, and standing in the very center, which is also the most eye-catching, is Wolverine wearing his suit, one foot on a boulder, his hands clenched, his long steel claws reflecting a cold light in the sunlight.
Logan picked it up and looked at it for a long time before carefully cutting out that page.
The next morning, Logan and his friends packed their things, declined Jack's offer to let them stay for a while, and loaded their luggage into the car.
Jack stood at the door with his family, waving goodbye to them.
As the car disappeared on the horizon, Jack turned back to the hotel, pushed the cleaning cart, and opened the room where Logan and the others had stayed.
A comic book on the table as soon as he entered the room instantly caught his eye.
An X-Men comic book poster, with Wolverine's claws prominently displayed at the head.
"Is he Wolverine?"
In an instant, Jack's eyes widened, and he rushed to the window to look down, but the car had already driven far away.
