Chapter 22 Mithril Wand, will you be paying by bank transfer or cash?
Both Charles and Professor McGonagall were surprised when they saw the wand.
This wand was truly unlike any they had ever seen before.
The wands Ollivander had previously produced were all made of wood, with the interiors filled with either phoenix feathers, unicorn mane, dragon nerves, or materials from certain magical creatures.
The cane has almost no aesthetic appeal, perfectly fitting the description of "a broken wooden stick".
But the wand in front of me was not only made entirely of silver metal, but also had an elegant and exquisite feel, with mysterious openwork patterns all over it.
At first glance, it looks like a beautiful work of art.
Professor McGonagall was the first to cast a questioning glance at Ollivander.
"Mr. Ollivander, are you sure this is a wand?"
Ollivander seemed to have already rehearsed his lines in his mind, speaking with unwavering certainty.
"This is definitely a magic wand, and a very important one at that."
"Its history dates back to the great war between wizards and fairies. Fairies are known to have more natural magical abilities than wizards."
"But they were defeated by wizards in several wars, mainly because they did not have wands."
"That's why the fairies went to great lengths to steal the wand-making techniques from the wizards, and combined them with their skills in crafting weapons using magical metals, they began to create their own wands."
"But they had only just created a prototype when they were defeated in the great battle, and that prototype was lost."
"Originally, this fairy wand was destined to be lost to history, but our Ollivander ancestors, out of curiosity and love for wands, searched far and wide for relevant information and restored the fairy wand using the same techniques."
"This is the one you see here. I guarantee that even the fairies who created it back then would exclaim in amazement that it's exactly the same as the lost one!"
Both Charles and Professor McGonagall had rather meaningful expressions.
After introducing the origin of the wand, Ollivander quickly steered the conversation back to the wand itself.
"Unlike wizards who use wood and magical animal materials to make wands, goblins use their pinnacle of magical metal smelting techniques to create wands."
"At the same time, they believe that combining wood with magical creature materials would diminish the magical properties of the wand; how could two different materials possibly work together?"
"So the wands they made did not distinguish between the shaft and the core; they were all made from a single piece of magical metal. This wand was made from a single piece of mithril, which is said to have the best magical properties."
"See the hollowed-out patterns on it? Those are patterns that further enhance the magic conduction performance. Combined with the silver staff, it truly looks like a work of art."
"It must be said that fairies are indeed far ahead in this regard."
After praising him a few times, Ollivander shook his head in regret.
"Unfortunately, the fairies only learned a little bit about wands, and didn't study the connection between wands and wizards at all."
"This greedy race doesn't believe in such mysterious and wonderful connections at all; they simply use the wand as a weapon and a tool."
"Therefore, this wand has no separate owners, no concept of loyalty or individuality; it serves everyone who wields it equally, performing the same functions."
"It is not a wizard's companion, but merely a weapon."
"If it weren't for the fact that Ciel's magic is so extreme that only mithril could withstand it, I would never have taken out this wand."
Upon hearing Ollivander's regret, Charles's eyes lit up.
Compared to Ollivander's wand-making philosophy, Ciel found the fairy's approach to wand-making more agreeable.
A tool is a tool, a weapon is a weapon, and a magic wand is just that.
Wizards can certainly have feelings for their wands, just as swordsmen love their swords, but no matter how much they love a weapon, it is still just a weapon.
Durable, sturdy, and easy to use—that's enough.
As for personality?
What's the use of that?!
Loyalty, well, that's still somewhat useful.
However, as long as it doesn't devour its master, and it simply can't unleash its full potential in someone else's hands, then there's not much difference.
At least in Ciel's view, if his wand fell into the hands of others during battle, he was already close to death.
The best way to keep a wand loyal to you is to keep it in your own hand forever!
So, before Ollivander could finish speaking, Charles had already reached out and grasped the mithril wand.
The moment Ciel held the wand, it wasn't as cold as he had imagined; instead, it had a slight warmth and a metallic feel.
But it feels very comfortable to hold, and fits the curve of the palm perfectly.
The weight is just right, not too light nor too heavy, it's just perfect.
Charles felt a surge of joy.
When he held those wooden wands before, even those made of oak, which was said to be the most sturdy, he felt uneasy.
But now, holding the mithril wand, that feeling completely disappeared.
Charles couldn't wait to try and invoke the Eternal Blazing Sun Spell.
With a fluid wave of the wand, the ultimate sacred and radiant magic of the Eternal Sun Spell began to flow, entering the mithril wand and making the wand itself, as well as the hollowed-out magical patterns on it, seem to be flowing with silver light.
But as Ollivander said, mithril is indeed unparalleled in the world in its ability to carry and transmit magic.
The Eternal Blazing Sun Spell had reached the point where it would erupt the moment Ciel uttered the incantation, but the Mithril Wand could withstand it completely. Apart from the shimmering silver light, there was nothing wrong with it.
Even if Ciel becomes powerful enough to unleash several Eternal Sun Spells in a short period of time, the Mithril Wand should be able to withstand them easily.
Charles excitedly withdrew the Eternal Blazing Sun Spell, and then tried the Dustless Land Spell.
A completely different kind of magic flowed into the mithril wand than the Eternal Blazing Sun Spell, yet it received the same conduction and bearing.
At this point, a look of satisfaction appeared on Charles's face.
In his opinion, this was indeed more suitable for him than any other wand.
Ollivander also breathed a sigh of relief.
If even this wand doesn't work, then he's truly out of options.
At this moment, Charles asked Ollivander.
"Mr. Ollivander, how much is this wand?"
Ollivander gave a number.
"Two hundred Galleons."
He wasn't just making up those numbers.
This fairy wand is worth far more than 200 Galleons just for its craftsmanship, exquisite design, and long history. This is already a bargain price.
Of course, Ollivander also knew that a Muggle-born freshman like Charles certainly didn't have that much money.
He didn't really intend to take that many, but rather wanted Charles to praise Ollivander's Wand Shop whenever he achieved something outstanding in the future.
Ollivander missed this opportunity when he first met Dumbledore, and now he regrets it terribly.
If he had thought of doing this earlier, Ollivander might not be known as one of the three great wandmakers in Europe, but as the best wandmaker in the world!
Now, Ollivander sees an opportunity to achieve this goal in his generation.
He was already waiting for Charles to start haggling, then he would casually state his own conditions and give Charles the mithril wand for free.
But the next moment, just as Professor McGonagall was about to reach into her purse to buy the wand for Ciel, Ciel nodded to Ollivander first.
"make a deal."
"So, Mr. Ollivander, you still owe me eight hundred Galleons. Will you be paying by Gringotts transfer or cash?"
