Douluo Continent: Rebirth of Huo Yuhao - Return to the Peerless Realm
Chapter 3: Testing Required
"Uncle, I saw you're hiring here. Do you think I could work for you?" Huo Yuhao knocked on the door, attracting the attention of the craftsman inside who was sharpening a sword blade. The crackling and hissing sounds filled the room, and the booming flames sounded like vibrating drums, but with Huo Yuhao's arrival, a touch of coolness also appeared in the room.
"We don't hire freeloaders here." The burly blacksmith put away his forging hammer, glanced at the skinny chick by the door, and waved his hand to shoo him away.
"What if I could make soul tools?" Huo Yuhao's eyes gleamed as he thoroughly explored the blacksmith's shop. The blacksmith was a level 39 Soul Master with a hammer-type martial soul. The room contained few farm tools, mostly swords, armor, cabinets, and shelves, intended for both the city's defense forces and the residents of Shrek City.
"A soul tool? You're talking about a soul tool in a place full of soul masters? Are you kidding me?" The blacksmith laughed, his eyes bloodshot and showing signs of fatigue. He then observed Huo Yuhao and said, "You skinny kid, you probably can't even lift a forging hammer. I think you should go find a job somewhere else."
"Alright, you're busy, I'll go check other places." Huo Yuhao smiled wryly, feeling that he was being a bit ridiculous, promoting this in the place on the entire continent that was most resistant to soul tools, he must have nothing better to do.
Activating his mental detection ability, Huo Yuhao strolled around leisurely. This was a street lined with blacksmith shops, each with its own tiers. He narrowed it down to a few shops selling soul tools, then found the most high-end one and pushed open the door to go inside.
"Hello, are you hiring?" Huo Yuhao called out, attracting the attention of the sales clerk inside the shop. Shrek City doesn't tolerate idlers; even a salesperson needs a soul power level of over twenty. In front of him were three rows of glass display cases, each displaying different products.
The first display case contained swords and shields inlaid with gold and silver threads. Their combat attributes were relatively poor; they were ceremonial weapons, used on solemn occasions. The second case displayed civilian soul tools, including lighting and temperature-regulating devices, primarily level one and two. The third display case sold more valuable items, mainly offensive soul tools such as soul beams, soul shields, and soul cannons, but the highest-grade item was only level three.
Huo Yuhao chose this shop because it had the most soul tools on the entire street, allowing him to maximize his advantages.
"Little brother, we're not hiring here." The salesperson looked up, and after confirming Huo Yuhao's age and cultivation level, showed a hint of apology.
"I can make soul tools." Huo Yuhao glanced at the grades of the soul tools around him and sighed inwardly. This was the most prosperous city on the entire continent, and the shops on the roadside were only selling level three soul tools. If it were the Sun Moon Empire, they would probably be selling level six soul tools.
Ironically, he couldn't even find a job.
"Can you manufacture soul tools?" The salesperson's attitude changed, and his eyes became more sincere as he asked kindly, "Do you have a rating from the Soul Tool Association?"
"No, but I can independently complete a level two soul tool. If we're really going to assess me, I should be considered a level two soul tool master." Huo Yuhao said calmly. He was being modest when he said he was a level two soul tool master, but to the salesman, it sounded like bragging.
"You? Independently completed a Level 2 Soul Tool?" The salesperson gave a helpless smile, then looked at Huo Yuhao and let out a long sigh. One should respect appearances before character; Huo Yuhao's attire certainly didn't resemble that of a Soul Tool Master. But thinking of the shop owner, the salesperson softened somewhat and was willing to give Huo Yuhao a chance.
"Come with me to the back, I'll give you a test."
"Okay." Huo Yuhao nodded and stepped into the shop.
The main entrance was incredibly luxurious, and the back was also quite well-organized, kept impeccably clean. Huo Yuhao was led to a worktable where a salesman stood by, looking at him and saying softly, "Little brother, please complete a soul guide component. If you succeed, you can become an apprentice here."
That's right, the salesperson was referring to completing a soul tool component. The shopkeeper's recruitment standard for apprentices Huo Yuhao's age was to independently complete a component of a soul tool. This requirement wasn't particularly difficult, nor was it easy, for a child in his early teens; it tested their talent for soul tools.
A roll of blueprints was opened and laid out in front of Huo Yuhao. It showed the simplest production process of a soul-guided lighting lamp, and the first step was the completion of the base.
"Put it away, this thing is useless to me." Huo Yuhao said lightly, as if he had come to his home turf, and directly grabbed the carving knife next to him and picked up the round silver sheet placed next to him to carve.
With a few simple flicks of his wrist, he effortlessly sculpted a magic circle. A flash of soul power in his hand poured into it, activating the soul guidance system. A shimmering yellow light emanated from the magic circle, adding a unique glow to the bright room.
"Three breaths, all in one go," the salesperson exclaimed in astonishment.
The illumination soul tool is almost too high a standard to be considered a first-level soul tool; in reality, it could be considered a level 0.5 soul tool. However, its core formation cannot tolerate even the slightest deviation. To complete its core formation in just three breaths, without the slightest hesitation, was a feat he had never witnessed in his entire life.
After glancing a few more times at the faintly glowing silver sheet, the salesperson said, his voice trembling slightly, "Is this your limit?"
"This is your limit." Huo Yuhao smiled confidently, and the flow of soul power in his hand changed from continuous infusion to point-like infusion. The light emitted by the silver plate also changed from yellow to red. After point-like infusion, it changed to wave-like infusion, and the red light turned into blue light. A three-color illuminating soul guidance core array was fully displayed in front of the salesperson.
"Three breaths! A three-colored soul guidance core array! This array alone is truly at the level of a first-class soul guidance device!" The salesperson's eyes widened, once again shocked.
He could also carve this soul-guiding array, but it would take him 15 minutes and there was a possibility of failure. Yet the child before him had carved the array with just a few flicks of his wrist, and it was running stably. Such talent was something even soul-guiding students at Shrek Academy might not be able to achieve.
Experts see the details, laymen just watch the show. The salesperson didn't think Huo Yuhao's words were exaggerated at all; instead, he muttered, "This might be the limit of my life."
After a brief lull in sales, when Huo Yuhao looked up again, he had already finished making the base of the lighting soul tool and attached the prepared glass cover. This level-one life soul tool was now completely complete. If he were to sell it, it would fetch dozens of gold soul coins.
"Less than ten minutes, a level one life soul tool." The salesperson was somewhat numb at this moment. The way he looked at Huo Yuhao was no longer like looking at a child, but rather like looking at a soul tool master.
"Hello, you meet our hiring requirements, but your salary is not something I can decide; it needs to be assessed by the store manager," the salesperson said respectfully, his attitude not exactly a complete 180-degree turn, but certainly extremely respectful.
"There is a lounge upstairs. We hope you can stay for a couple of days. I will inform the manager tonight."
As if afraid that Huo Yuhao might not be at ease, the salesperson added with certainty, "I guarantee that as long as you pass the store manager's review, your monthly salary will not be less than three thousand gold soul coins."
"Okay." Huo Yuhao nodded, converted the three thousand gold soul coins into the value of selling grilled fish, which was equivalent to selling a hundred grilled fish every day. After a self-deprecating laugh, he thought about his current situation, and an idea popped into his head. He then said, "I'm a bit short on money lately~"
"I can lend it to you!" the salesperson replied sincerely, "as long as you're willing to offer some guidance on soul guide production."
"Uh~" A few black lines appeared on Huo Yuhao's forehead. He waved his hand and said lightly, "No need for that. I just have a technology I want to sell."
"Selling technology?" The salesman's eyes widened even more, like a frog's, his mind reeling. He never imagined that the most profitable activity in the Soul Master world was about to happen right before his eyes.
What technology are you selling?
