Chapter 62 One is worth two
Chapter 62 One is worth two
"If I had known all this sooner, perhaps I would have been more indulgent."
Wearing an eye mask and a black bodysuit, the blonde beauty known as "Black Siren" leaned against the poolside and said with some emotion.
"Catwoman" Selena looked at the red handprints on "Black Siren's" body that had not yet faded.
If we don't indulge ourselves, things are already like this; if we indulge ourselves even more, what will become of us?
Although the "Black Siren" still had a flushed face and her hair was still wet and clung to her body, "Catwoman" Selena wasn't in much better shape either.
Connors took a deep drag of his cigarette afterward, offering no comment on "Black Siren's" words.
His water crimes involve dealing with the "Black Siren" as a villain.
The process went quite smoothly. He simply explained the origins of Seaside City and the Justice Association in a clear and organized manner, and what happened afterward was entirely voluntary.
One woman is worth two, and they are two beauties who look extremely similar. Coupled with the contrast in their identities, Connors' experience has reached its peak.
On the east side of Beach City, Batman abandoned the Music Thief and Catman, and headed alone towards the Beach City Cemetery.
He remembered that Connors had previously made a hint about "graves," and now he wanted to take this opportunity to visit the cemetery.
There weren't many tombstones here, but five of them, standing side by side and larger in size, were particularly eye-catching, and Batman immediately went over to them.
"Batman, what have you discovered?"
After arresting Blizzard Doctor, "Superman" Clark intended to imprison him in the Seaside City jail.
But he soon discovered that the huge seaside city only had two police officers, so he quickly found Batman.
Compared to the Justice Society members, "Superman" Clark instinctively wanted to communicate with the superheroes who had traveled from another era.
"This city may still hold secrets. See for yourself." Batman moved his body away from the tombstone.
"Superman" Clark looked at the tombstone and saw the names of five Justice Society members: "Green Guardian," "Catman," "Black Siren," "Tom Turbo," and "Speed."
"They're dead—or rather, they've been dead for a long time." Clark frowned.
"You're right. So who are all those people we've seen?" Batman asked, as if addressing Superman.
It's as if he's asking himself a question.
Hal, the Green Lantern, also followed the two to this place. After seeing the names on the tombstone, he raised his hand to look at the "JS" ring:
"Robots? Clones? Whoever they are, we must find the answer."
These heroes of the Justice Society were all childhood idols of Hal Jordan, the "Green Lantern." For Hal, traveling to this world and gaining their approval to become a member of the Justice Society brought more joy than anything else.
But when he saw the name on the tombstone and looked down at the ring on his hand, his emotions were like a rollercoaster ride.
Hal then jumped into the air alone without saying a word, determined to find out the truth.
"Superman" Clark followed closely behind, while "Batman" Bruce Wayne started the Batmobile and chased after them.
On the street, an ice cream truck drove along to a crisp, melodious tune, and the driver inside whistled along with the music.
But soon, he had to slam on the brakes and come to a stop. "Green Lantern" Hal stood in front of the car. "Stop!"
The driver, who was also the ice cream vendor, wasn't annoyed at being suddenly stopped. Instead, he smiled, rolled down the window, and asked Hal:
"Brother, what can I do for you?"
"Tell me about the tombstones in the Seaside City Cemetery," Hal asked bluntly.
The driver swallowed hard.
"Sorry, I have something to do. I can't keep my customers waiting."
"What customer?" Batman and Superman arrived at this moment. "I noticed you a while ago. You drove your ice cream truck around and around without stopping."
The driver looked distressed.
"Business can't stop."
Batman ignored the man's expression, grabbed him by the collar, and nearly yanked him out of the cockpit.
When was the last time you sold ice cream?
"Please, don't ask anymore, he'll hear you—" The driver's hat was knocked off, but he didn't bother to pick it up. His voice was bitter and panicked. "I can't say anything more."
After saying that, the driver stepped on the gas and sped away in the ice cream truck.
"Should we stop them?" Clark asked, standing still.
"No need." Batman shook his head. "He's probably just a pitiful man. Although the problems are piling up, I think I'm getting close to the truth—..."
Before he could finish speaking, the three of them were suddenly enveloped by a shadow cast from the sky.
It was a huge airship, and hanging below it was the vault that "Sir Swami" had previously moved from the bank to the entrance.
"I'll go." Clark was about to leave immediately, but Batman stopped him.
"Leave it to them." Batman was referring to the Justice Society, one of whose members, "Black Siren," was currently lying on the side of the airship. "We're going to investigate the history of this city."
To check history, going to the library is usually the most direct option, and that's where Batman and the others are headed. But there's a person standing in front of the library in Seaside City, none other than Connors, who has returned after being outdone by two others.
"It's much faster than I expected. You guys are quite efficient," Connors greeted the three flying over with a smile.
"Do you know the truth behind all of this?" Batman asked.
He went to the cemetery and saw the Justice Society's tombstone, which was prompted by Connors.
"I know everything, but sometimes it's less interesting to say it out loud." Connors smiled and played the riddle-maker, gesturing for them to come in. "Let's go in and take a look."
"Connors, who are you?" Superman and Batman went in first, and "Green Lantern" Hal couldn't help but ask.
"Don't rush to ask, let's go in and take a look together." Connors avoided answering; if he revealed everything, what would he get out of the gossip?
The library in the seaside city is very large, with probably hundreds of thousands of books inside. It would take an unimaginable amount of time to look through them all.
But now there's obviously no need for that. No matter which book Batman opens or which bookshelf Superman's super vision scans, without exception...
All of them were blank books.
