American Comics: Today's Big News

Chapter 23 Rewards Accumulation

Natasha, the "Black Widow," who spent the whole day riding in a supercar, was not angry at all; on the contrary, she was overjoyed.

She chased after Connors all the way just to find Cindy, the "Spider Silk"!

Although she didn't know Cindy, she had done her homework before coming, and when she saw the spider silk sticking to the supercar, she knew that her trip hadn't been in vain.

Unfortunately, when she finally managed to get down from mid-air, her body was covered in a lot of milky white, sticky spider silk. She had no choice but to find a hotel to wash up and change her clothes.

She discarded her original black stockings and slip dress, and put on a red bodycon dress with a wide neckline, revealing snow-capped mountains that trembled with her movements.

The red bodycon dress, identical from top to bottom, was adorned only by a thin gold belt, complementing her already delicate and sculpted features and her large, slightly wavy red hair.

When she came out of the hotel, the receptionist was so amazed that she stared wide-eyed and speechless.

In the hotel lobby, several young men sat idly on the sofa. When they saw Natasha, their eyes lit up. They were about to strike up a conversation when the woman gave them a cold look, and they immediately fell silent.

Natasha hailed a taxi, gave an address, ignored the driver's frequent glances through the rearview mirror, and put on a pair of glasses.

Behind the glasses, the tracker signal she had just hidden on Connors in a more discreet way was flashing.

An hour later, Natasha stood in front of the nineteenth floor of an apartment building, silently counting down the time.

Inside the door, the sounds of men and women panting and colliding rose and fell.

Natasha waited until the noise finally stopped, and just as she was about to knock on the door, she heard Connors say from inside, "One more time."

Are you coming again?!

She had already given these two plenty of time, including travel time, so why did they have to come again?

Another half hour passed, during which Natasha declined the invitation from Connors's neighbor to come over. When she heard no more sound from inside the door, she raised her hand and knocked.

Connors, with a cigarette dangling from his lips, unsurprisingly saw "Black Widow" leaning against the doorway, dressed in a rather alluring red gown, and chuckled:

"I knew you'd come along."

With the presence of spider senses, the small insect-like tracking device that Black Widow threw onto herself using the wind and noise of the supercar's tails couldn't escape his notice.

However, since The Flash, Barry, has already been to the future and there is "no future," it means that something big is bound to happen. Therefore, Cindy Moon, "The Spider," does indeed need to go with Natasha.

On the way back to the apartment with Cindy, Connors had already mentioned this matter. Cindy had been quiet the whole way, but when they arrived at the apartment, she was more enthusiastic than ever before, which could be considered as her answer to "to go or not to go" through her actions.

……

In Gotham's night, Connors was once again alone in his empty room.

Cindy was picked up by Natasha, and the two boarded a futuristic-looking plane that descended from the sky and headed for New York, which wasn't far from Gotham City.

Before leaving, taking advantage of a moment when "Silk" wasn't looking, "Black Widow" secretly slipped Connors a card with her private contact information and a whispered message:

"I might try coming to New York if I have the chance."

Try something... Connors immediately understood. New York is definitely on our agenda, but not now.

Connors's mission in Gotham, the "Man Who Laughs" incident, is still ongoing. Once this matter is over, if there are no other major events, he can go there.

Seeing that it was almost midnight and there shouldn't be any new late-night gossip, he opened the system.

Five huge, substantial melons!

—Last night I caused trouble at the Penguin's Iceberg Club, then went to work at Xuexi's hotel, and then there was the Batman gay scene in the early morning.

A series of events prevented him from submitting yesterday's gossip assignment on time, and it all piled up until today.

[Rewards accumulated, submit now?]

Without hesitation, Connors promptly submitted his accumulated rewards for watching the drama unfold.

[Reward for watching the drama: The limits of human endurance]

Human limits include, but are not limited to, strength, senses, reaction time, speed, endurance, and mental capacity.

It's here! It's finally here!

Connors' long-awaited physical fitness reward has finally arrived!

After carefully examining the reward, Connors knew that his current physical abilities were probably similar to Batman's, which was the highest level of normal human physical fitness.

However, its self-healing ability and metabolism have not been significantly improved, because it is no longer within the scope of normal humans.

However, this reward came a little late... Connors thought with some regret.

Harley Quinn has disappeared, seemingly taken away by Poison Ivy, and Cindy Moon has also left with Natasha. In all of Gotham, Sheryl is the only one who has ever "dealt with" Connors.

Xuexi is not known for her physical abilities...

Fortunately, having just finished fighting Cindy Moon, "Spider Silk," a dozen minutes ago, he was still in a state of saneness, and his thoughts quickly turned to the Joker.

The series of events that have occurred so far are almost all related to the Joker, and the "Man Who Laughs" incident is still ongoing.

Waiting any longer wasn't Connors' style; he planned to take the initiative and speed things up.

He casually controlled "Green of All Things" and transformed the cactus next door, which had grown into the shape of a clown, into a short, chubby penguin. Nothing more was said that night.

The next day, the sirens sounded even more promptly than an alarm clock, successfully waking Connors from his slumber.

"Sir, with these kinds of things happening one after another, I suggest you throw this cactus in the trash..."

In the hallway outside, Gotham's police officers were talking to their neighbors, while Connors dressed, washed up, and then jumped out of the window.

His reaction speed, which pushed the limits of human capabilities, made his little tricks seem even more natural. He landed lightly on the ground and then reached out to hail a taxi.

—After the supercar was suspended in the air by spider silk, Gotham's police officers returned the luxury car from Wayne Enterprises, and Connors was once again a man relying on his own two legs.

He's going to Gotham Forest today to consult with "Poison Ivy" about something.

The actions of these Gotham City villains are all related to the "Man Who Laughs" incident, and they are all people who were previously imprisoned in Arkham Asylum.

The only two that haven't caused any trouble yet are Killer Croc and Poison Ivy.

However, Killer Croc is a guy who lives in the sewers in the comics, and Connors doesn't want to go into that kind of place, so the only person he can turn to right now is Poison Ivy.

The existence of "Green of All Things" made Connors certain that "Poison Ivy" Ivy would not harm him, so he did not take any precautions in advance, and even considered whether to bring two boxes of gifts.

But plans never keep up with changes. As he passed by the large screens on the streets of Gotham, the news on them caught his attention:

"Yesterday, the Gotham Police Department received a report that four shareholders of the 'Iceberg Club' were hanging in mid-air by chains and were barely alive when they were rescued..."

Needless to say, this was Connors's doing.

What caught his attention was a line of small text scrolling below the news footage:

"Joseph's Jewelry Store has been burglarized for the fifth time this month. According to the surveillance footage, the perpetrator was a blindfolded woman with an unusually agile physique..."

Thief, blindfolded, and incredibly skilled!

Three keywords reminded Connors of one person:

Catwoman!
