Chapter 1: Today's Gossip

"If I hadn't been in huge debts, I definitely wouldn't have wanted to leave Boston."

"It's safer there than Gotham, and the heroine there—Wonder Woman—is even more beautiful."

In a brightly lit bar in Gotham at night, a fat, ruddy-faced middle-aged man was loudly boasting while holding a large glass of beer.

Connors Patterson mingled with the crowd in the bar, laughing along with the others, but inwardly he was skeptical of what the boastful old man was saying.

Wonder Woman is certainly beautiful, but Gotham City has no shortage of beauties: Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Barbara... each with her own unique charm!

"Hey, I heard Wonder Woman always goes bare-legged. Does she have anything else to cover herself under her skirt?"

A fat man with a full beard sitting next to Connors asked loudly.

Down!

Connors gave the fat man a disdainful look, but he had been hanging out in these low-end bars for a while and was used to these people making lewd jokes all the time.

"That's obviously nonsense. Wonder Woman isn't some kind of 'Wonder Woman Bitch,' how could she possibly run around naked?"

Not only Connors, but even the middle-aged man who was loudly boasting gave the fat man a disdainful look:

"To be honest, she's my goddess, the kind that's not to be trifled with!"

The dozen or so low-class guys who hadn't gone home all night were laughing uproariously, making all sorts of lewd jokes even more unrestrainedly, such as whether the hard breastplate would scratch their chests, or whether they were wearing nothing underneath the battle suit.

Among these filthy, smelly, and mostly obese men, Connors Patterson, nearly 1.9 meters tall, with his muscular physique barely concealed by his dark red suit and handsome appearance, stood out somewhat.

However, since some troublemakers were beaten up before, every person who came to drink was warned by the bartender not to mess with Connors, and he is now doing quite well here.

At this moment, Connors did not join the discussion about fantasizing about Wonder Woman, but instead looked at his system.

[Submit or not?]

No rush, let's wait a bit longer... Connors decided to see if there were any new topics in the bar, otherwise he would submit the gossip he had heard today.

Unlike these homeless natives who come to the bar, order the cheapest drink, and then start bragging loudly, he is a time traveler.

Connors Paterson was the name he gave himself after transmigrating. His original self was a spectator in China, but after transmigrating to Gotham, his original name was no longer important.

He calls the essential cheat code for time travel the "gossip system," which allows him to earn rewards by eating gossip once a day.

Among these, the reward for information relayed by others is the lowest, the reward for information discovered through one's own exploration is slightly higher, and the reward for information obtained in person is the best.

Living in the friendly and honest city of Gotham, anything unexpected can happen at any moment, so never give up until the very last moment.

That's why he's been so slow to submit his "gossip task" for today.

Unfortunately, I've been here for ten days now, and all I've seen are bat lights turning on, but I haven't been able to witness any of the gossip firsthand.

If Connors hadn't been worried about not getting any new gossip after entering Gotham prison, and about not having any means of escaping, he would have even planned to stir up some trouble to attract Batman's attention.

This won't do. When will we ever reach the level of superheroes? Relying on these scoundrels obtained through secondary channels, the rewards will never be high enough to be considered worthy of recognition... Connors secretly had a headache.

For the past ten days, he's been consuming information through bar bluffs, television reports, and newspaper articles, including things like Batman re-entering Arkham Asylum, the Gotham Forest growing wildly, an underwater earthquake triggering a tsunami that was stopped by an unknown force, and the Daily Planet naming the guy in the red cape Superman...

And so on, a whole series of gossip.

Besides these gossips that he clearly saw as being related to superheroes, Bruce Wayne has also been involved in numerous scandals involving female celebrities.

Although the rewards from these non-first-hand scoops were quite modest, they still allowed Connors to accumulate a small amount of savings, enough to buy a legal identity and acquire the skills to take on ordinary people, enabling him to establish himself in Gotham City.

But this is not enough.

Connors had no desire to travel through time and become an ordinary person in a world teeming with superheroes and villains.

If something like this were to happen one day and I were to die a violent death, that would be too frustrating.

With the system around, although the current rewards are just ordinary things like money and fighting abilities, he believes the system will bring him surprises if he gets to know some big news about superheroes.

The clock on the wall ticked away, and it was almost midnight. Just as Connors thought there was nothing new to report and was about to submit his "gossip" assignment, a loud bang echoed through the street outside.

Immediately following, the sounds of car horns, screams of passersby, and maniacal laughter entered the bar, startling the boastful guys.

Something's up?!

Connors perked up and got up to leave before anyone else could react.

Whether as a mere spectator in China or as part of a melon-eating system, he couldn't possibly stay obediently in the bar.

Crunch!

The screeching sound of tires scraping the ground filled the air.

As soon as Connors stepped out, a car's tires locked up, and it drifted past him, barely stopping in front of a figure.

The figure stood at the intersection of the illumination range of two streetlights, facing the car that was about to hit him without flinching or dodging. His hands were on a baseball bat he was carrying on his shoulders, and his long hair was stuck to his face. In the shadows, he looked like a demon.

The driver who nearly hit someone opened the car door cursing. As soon as he peeked out, the person standing in the shadows jumped onto the hood, swinging a baseball bat high in the air.

"Mother..."

The car owner opened his mouth halfway and had just uttered a single word when he received a solid blow to the forehead with a baseball bat and fell asleep immediately.

The maniacal laughter rang out again. The unfortunate driver lay on the ground, and with a roar, the man who attacked him drove his car into several parked cars before speeding away.

The people of Gotham were completely unfazed by all this. A few shouts came from the buildings along the street, then silence fell, and the people in the bar went back to their seats to continue their boasting.

The only difference was that Connors didn't go back to the bar this time, but instead sat in the back seat of the car that drove away.

"Red and blue hair, maniacal laughter, delirious appearance, and a pungent chemical smell all over his body..."

"Is this Harley Quinn, who's just been thrown into the chemical vat by the Joker and is now in a dazed state?"
