Chapter 20 Jack's Amazing Day
Jack figured now wasn't the right time to bother him, so he got up and headed straight for the "checkpoint".
After handing the cookies to the staff member at the customs checkpoint for inspection, Jack was directed to a place where quite a few people were already standing.
Upon arriving at this place, Jack quickly learned from the other people that most of the cookies standing here were triangular or round, with only one being pentagonal, and there was no umbrella.
So this game is actually a game of luck with a bit of skill involved!
As a game enthusiast, Jack thought that Miller, the game designer, had created absolutely terrible games.
Looking at the staff filming with cameras, Jack felt that this show would probably only be held for one season. He didn't think that such a game design would attract the current interest of American viewers.
The 30-minute countdown ended quickly. The challengers who got the triangle pattern had the most people who passed the level, with over 100 people. The circle pattern had a few fewer people, around 60, and the five-pointed star pattern had even fewer, around 10. No one passed the umbrella pattern.
Therefore, those who failed to pass this time found it hard to accept, since it was a game of luck, and they began to protest.
But Miller's words quickly forced them to stop their protest: "Challengers, what have you contributed to this competition?"
The second round is just a game of luck. Everyone else was lucky and succeeded, but you were unlucky and failed. It's that simple. What are you protesting?
Looking at the dissatisfied challengers and the slight increase in his reputation points, Miller's smile grew brighter and brighter.
Miller only waved to his staff to take them away when his reputation stopped increasing.
Upon arriving at the third room, Miller again asked the 172 challengers if anyone wanted to quit early, pointing out that those who quit would receive two thousand dollars.
But now none of the challengers wanted to back out, because a huge glass box filled with US dollars was right behind Miller.
Miller looked at the challengers whose eyes were filled with a desire for money, a smirk playing on his lips, and explained the content of the third level of the game.
"Acupressure mat tug-of-war: All challengers present are free to form teams of six to tug-of-war. They need to complete the team formation within three minutes. Challengers who fail to complete the team formation will be randomly assigned."
The losing side is eliminated in its entirety, and any member of the winning side who falls into the pool is also eliminated.
Furthermore, the tug-of-war needs to be conducted on an acupressure mat.
After Miller finished explaining the rules, all the female challengers present began to hurl profanities.
"Don't eat pickled radishes."
The male challengers were all extremely excited.
After all, the rules of this level are clearly more favorable to men, both in terms of the game content and the punishment.
Miller looked at his reputation points rising again and felt that he had made the right decision. He couldn't help but start the next Miller game immediately. After all, after three rounds of games, Miller had basically collected all the reputation points he could get.
The final groupings were exactly as everyone expected. Almost all the male challengers formed teams instantly. Although many of the female challengers tried to join these teams, it was clear that the one million dollars behind Miller was more attractive.
Three minutes passed quickly. Miller had the fourteen teams that had already formed stand in front of him, and then had the female challengers who had not yet formed teams line up on the other side. He then had the first girl join the first team, the second girl join the second team, and so on.
The female challengers who hadn't formed teams breathed a sigh of relief upon learning of this assignment method, but those who joined teams 10 and 13 looked grim, as almost all the members of these two teams were women.
One challenger even tried to switch places with someone behind him after discovering he was to be assigned to team 10. Miller eliminated him immediately after the staff noticed, thus restoring order.
After considering the three additional challengers, Miller decided not to let them join the two teams. Instead, he had each of the fourteen teams send a representative to draw lots, and the team whose representative drew the lot would be assigned to that team.
Soon, cheers erupted from the three teams that had been drawn.
Miller also told them to take out their opponents as well.
After the draw results were announced, the opponents of teams 10 and 13 erupted in cheers, believing they had already won.
But they soon realized they were overjoyed, because they had absolutely no idea what an acupressure mat was. After all, it had never existed in the United States before; Miller had it custom-made.
When the first match was being prepared, the two teams that were required to take off their shoes and step onto the acupressure mat let out screams of pain as soon as they stepped onto the mat, especially the larger challengers who let out a scream with every step.
And when the match officially began, both sides exerted their strength...
Hiss~ That scream reminded Miller of the scene of watching pigs being slaughtered in the countryside in his previous life.
Yes, the sounds are indeed quite similar.
Watching the two teams screaming and pulling hard on the rope, the other teams watching below all became serious and began to discuss amongst themselves.
However, before he could reach any conclusion, the competition on stage had already been accepted.
The moment the largest challenger in the left-hand team, who was in charge of the last position, lifted his foot because he could no longer bear the pain, his entire team was dragged into the water in a devastating manner.
The challengers from the winning team, who were thrown onto the acupressure mat due to the immense inertia, exhibited even more intense reactions, especially the last one. While the others had parts of their bodies attached to others, he not only landed entirely on the acupressure mat but also had to endure secondary injuries from his teammates.
It was only then that everyone realized that endurance seemed to be more important than strength in this competition.
But the moment the second match began, Team 10 on the right was instantly pulled into the pool by their opponents, Jack's team. Only then did everyone realize that endurance was only a matter of comparing strength when the two teams were evenly matched; if the difference was too great, it was pointless to even consider it.
So, after a heated internal discussion, Team 13 simply withdrew.
His opponents couldn't help but cheer again, and the challenger who was responsible for drawing lots was constantly being tossed into the air by them, making it seem as if they were about to win.
However, we can't blame them. The performance of the four teams that have already played has fully demonstrated how terrifying those "little bamboo shoots" are.
