Chapter 89 Spending the Night in the Auditorium
"Oh, Draco—" Pansy was about to continue looking for something to throw at Lyra White when she saw Draco smash a banana into the vixen. Moved, she rushed forward and hugged Draco. "I knew you hated those lowly Mudbloods the most!"
Upon seeing his "masterpiece," the platinum-haired young master's mind went blank for three seconds. In that moment of stunned silence, he was tightly embraced by Pansy. At the same time, he saw Millison staring at him with adoring eyes. He didn't dare to, and had no chance to, look at the expression on the black-haired girl's face.
The twins, along with Harry and Ron, all saw Malfoy throw the banana at Lyra's head and immediately focused their attacks on Malfoy. The area where the Slytherins were standing was filled with the stench and sparks from the dung bombs and exploding fireworks.
Lyra, who had been hit on the head by an apple, wasn't as angry as the Platinum Prince had imagined. She was then lightly tapped on the arm by a sprig of freesia.
Turning around, she saw Cedric at the Hufflepuff table next door giving her an apologetic smile.
"Sorry, it was an accident—"
Leila glanced at the freesias that had fallen to the floor as decorations on the dining table, then recalled the force she had felt when her arm was hit. She smiled and said, "It's okay—"
Cedric saw the dark-haired girl walk towards him with a smile, then snatch a piece of cream cake from the table and smear it on his face with lightning speed.
"Anyway, I'll get my revenge~" He heard Lyra's triumphant laughter as his eyes were covered in cream.
Well, he really hadn't expected the dark-haired girl to "retaliate," because he had deliberately thrown the decorative flowers from the vase on the table onto Leila's arm to attract her attention. He had even carefully avoided thorny roses and pollen-shedding lilies, choosing the safest option, freesias, just to avoid accidentally hurting her.
He was sure the other person would understand that his so-called "attack" was just an "accidental injury." But... Cedric wiped most of the cream off his face with his hand, and then, while Lyra was still gloating over his successful prank, he quickly smeared all the cream from his hand onto her face.
“Hmm, actually, this cream is quite sweet.” Cedric gently scraped a piece of cream off Lyra’s nose, sucked on it, and then commented seriously, though his warm eyes couldn’t hide his amusement.
"Stop it, all of you!"
A loud voice resounded throughout the auditorium.
The auditorium doors suddenly opened, and the professors who had just left their seats pushed the doors open and entered, but none of them could have predicted the scene before them; their faces were all ashen.
The usually kind-hearted Headmaster Dumbledore remained expressionless, his white beard gleaming coldly in the candlelight.
"stop--"
Most people stopped instinctively when they heard the principal's voice, but some students, blinded by rage, continued to tear at the ground.
Lyra and Cedric, their faces covered in cream, stood obediently in place, but like everyone else in the Great Hall who had quieted down, their gazes involuntarily drifted toward the figures still fighting—well, it really was a Gryffindor and a Slytherin pair, and they were even acquaintances: Wood and Flint.
"Obstacles are numerous!"
"Petrify them all!"
Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape both brandished their wands, their faces increasingly grim. After all, one was the Head of Gryffindor, and the other the Head of Slytherin.
“Never—never has such a thing ever happened!” Professor McGonagall’s lips trembled with anger.
"Who will have the mercy to tell your poor professor what's going on?" Professor Snape squinted, looking like a snake about to attack. His voice wasn't loud, but it seemed to be squeezed from deep in his throat, making it even more chilling than when he was angry.
Lyra watched helplessly as all the Slytherins shuddered and lowered their heads, behaving like dying quails.
None of the students from the four academies dared to utter a single syllable at this moment; they all silently lowered their eyes, not daring to meet the gaze of any of the teachers.
"In all my years of teaching, I have never encountered anything like this—students from all four houses causing a disturbance in the auditorium—" Professor McGonagall was so angry she could barely stand. She grabbed Professor Lupin's arm and said furiously, "Deduct two hundred points from each house!"
With a whoosh, the gems in the funnels of the four academies were instantly emptied, leaving only a few scattered gems at the bottom.
A heavy feeling settled over everyone. They were fine when they were in the heat of the moment, but now, looking back, they couldn't believe they had done something so irrational—the professors had only left temporarily, they hadn't died in the line of duty, they would come back to settle scores sooner or later!
“Alright, now is not the time to dwell on this mess—” Headmaster Dumbledore looked at the chaotic Great Hall and the students with their heads bowed in silence. “There are more important things to say now.”
Headmaster Dumbledore stepped over the food scraps scattered on the ground, walked to the teachers' table, and, as he always did at the start of the school year, cleared his throat and addressed the students: "An incident has just occurred in the Gryffindor Tower. We are certain that Sirius Black broke into the castle and attacked the portrait of the gatekeeper—"
"Quiet—" Headmaster Dumbledore's words were barely out when a commotion erupted. He had to make a gesturing gesture to quell it and raise his voice, "For safety reasons, everyone will stay in the Great Hall tonight—"
Headmaster Dumbledore waved his wand, and in an instant, the floor and long tables in the Great Hall were spotless, all food scraps swept away. The four long tables hopped to the edge of the Great Hall, clearing a large space in the middle.
Then he waved again, and the ground was covered with hundreds of purple sleeping bags.
"The faculty and I will conduct a thorough search of the castle," Headmaster Dumbledore continued. "I require the prefects to stand guard at the entrance to the Great Hall, and the student council presidents and student leaders to remain inside the Great Hall to oversee operations."
“Report anything that happens to me immediately,” the principal added to Percy at the end. Percy, with his messy hair covered in food scraps and a proud look on his face, said, “Find a ghost to deliver a message to me.”
After saying this, Headmaster Dumbledore left with all the professors.
A buzz immediately filled the hall as everyone discussed Sirius Black's intrusion into the castle.
“Let’s go,” George said to Leila, grabbing three sleeping bags.
Fred then used his shoulder to push Cedric, who was standing next to Lyra, aside, and the twins took their places around Lyra in perfect unison, one on each side.
