Chapter 10 Defense Against the Dark Arts Class
After the loud roar ceased, the tables, chairs, and dishes in the auditorium gradually stopped shaking, and the sound of talking slowly resumed.
Countless eyes, both overt and covert, were fixed on Lyra, but she headed straight for the table, quickly pulling the two red-haired boys to sit down. The three hurriedly greeted poor Ron and Harry and began to eat their breakfast, with Lyra even grabbing a glass of milk.
It was getting late, and the crowd gradually dispersed. Those who didn't want to leave the auditorium had to hurry to their first class.
The Gryffindor table was nearly empty, especially since Professor McGonagall had already left the teacher's seat; all the students who were supposed to teach the first period under her had vanished. Lyra and her two companions hurried off to the Transfiguration classroom, leaving Fred to grab a fried chicken leg on the way.
The three of them finally entered the classroom on time. Fortunately, Professor McGonagall only gave them a stern look and didn't say much. The three of them listened attentively like quails the entire time and finally got through the first class of the new semester safely.
Before the next Defense Against the Dark Arts class even started, Lyra already had a long face—the entire entrance to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom was packed with people, many of whom weren't students in this class but were holding Lockhart's books, asking for autographs. Look, the dark-haired Chinese girl arm-in-arm with the curly-haired girl at the door is clearly not in their year.
How annoying. Lyra stared at the blocked doorway, feeling the complete set of Lockhart novels she was holding felt heavier than in the morning, making her face grow increasingly grim. To outsiders, unaware of the situation, they only thought that Lyra White had become even more beautiful this semester, but her demeanor had also become increasingly cold and aloof.
This deterred many people from approaching Lyra. But there are always those who don't know how to read the room, even if they come from Ravenclaw, a school representing wisdom. Roger Davis was speaking next to Qiu Zhang, a beautiful Chinese-American student from his own college, when he inadvertently saw Lyra in the crowd, whose cool expression only made her more elegant and refined. His eyes lit up, and he quickly pushed through the crowd to greet her warmly.
"Hey, White, you look gorgeous today. Want to partner with me in class later? My Defense Against the Dark Arts grade is pretty good—" Roger Davis flicked his slightly long bangs, flashed a fairly handsome smile, and confidently invited her.
“No need, she already has a partner.” George stepped forward and blocked Lyra’s path.
"Go back to your Ravenclaw bookworm group," Fred said bluntly, crossing his arms and shooing him away.
Roger couldn't stand being humiliated like that in front of a beautiful woman. His face darkened instantly, and his hand instinctively reached for his wand.
The twins, with their quick reflexes and exceptional teamwork, swiftly drew their wands and reacted defensively and offensively.
Just as a sudden conflict was about to erupt, it was interrupted by a single sentence—
"Excuse me, you're blocking the way." A cold, calm voice broke through the vortex of the storm.
He was a brown-haired boy with deep-set, handsome features and a pair of blue eyes as pure as the sky, but his expressionless face at this moment greatly diminished his good looks.
Lyra leaned out slightly from behind the twins, observing with interest the unknown boy wearing a blue tie who seemed completely oblivious to the tense atmosphere.
"Professor Lockhart is here!" In the next instant, the girls' excited screams completely extinguished the anger of the boys in front of them.
Roger Davis was pulled away by his friends, and the twins also sneered and moved aside. The unfamiliar blue-eyed boy didn't even give Lyra a second glance and walked straight into the classroom.
Lyra, on the contrary, took notice of the handsome blue-eyed boy. She blinked and gave a sly smile.
"Tongzi, what's this boy's name?"
"Beep—Roger Davis has been detected as a romanceable character. Confirm romance?"
"I know that Davis, he's from the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, George and the others played against him. I'm asking about that blue-eyed guy—"
"Beep—The system has detected that the player currently has no romance options. Please find a romanceable character as soon as possible!"
"......" Clearly, the blue-eyed guy is way ahead of Roger Davis. Oh well, I'm used to it. There's something inexplicable about this system's selection criteria; maybe it's just a difference in aesthetics between different systems.
Leila decided to find out for herself. Did the system think that silence could stop this ordinary but talented girl in love?
*
1. What is Gilderoy Lockhart's favorite color?
2. What is Gilderoy Lockhart's secret ambition?
3. What do you think is Gilderoy Lockhart's greatest achievement to date?
And so on, a full three pages, all of which were bullshit questions related to Lockhart.
Faced with the diagnostic test paper Lockhart had given to the whole class, Lyra couldn't help but question her life: How did this guy pass the teacher recruitment exam? Or has the renowned headmaster really gone senile? The latter is definitely impossible. Just look at the headmaster's sharp eyes the night they were caught speeding to school. This old man is still a shrewd, vigilant, and highly skilled wizard.
Half an hour later, Lockhart collected the test papers and looked through them in front of the whole class.
"Tsk tsk, almost no one remembers that my favorite color is lilac, which I mentioned in 'A Year with the Tibetan Yeti.' If anyone has read 'A Weekend with Werewolves' carefully, they'll find that my ideal birthday present is for all people, whether they have magic or not, to live in harmony—uh?"
Lockhart pretentiously rummaged through everyone's exam papers, then suddenly, with a choked sound, as if his neck had been trampled by a Pegasus, he pulled out a completely blank paper from among the many papers—
"Who is Lyra White?"
Lyra leaned back in her chair, her legs casually crossed, exuding a relaxed and carefree air. She raised her hand casually, completely ignoring Lockhart—at least that's how Lockhart perceived it.
“Miss White, zero! In fact, where did all the questions on this test go?” Lockhart’s signature smile dwindled.
“Oh, if the professor has studied basic spells, he would know that there is a spell called Vanish, which is very useful for clearing away trash,” Lyra kindly explained.
Lockhart realized the pretty girl was deliberately picking a fight, and he almost couldn't maintain his smile. But it was only for a moment; an even more infuriating, self-satisfied smile returned to his face: "Oh, I see, Miss White, you're trying to get my attention in this peculiar way, what a little rascal..." Seeing Lyra's livid face, he quickly changed the subject, "But the focus of our lesson today is learning. Come on! It's time to witness the most evil thing in the magical world—"
"Just caught a Cornish elf!"
