As dawn broke, the light streamed into the room through the gaps in the curtains, casting golden rays across the floor.

Gu Tingyu slowly opened his eyes. Su Maiqi was still fast asleep beside him, her long eyelashes casting a shadow on her face, her breathing even and calm.

He tiptoed to his feet, walked to the crib, and found that Xiao Chengze was already awake, curiously looking around at everything with his big, dark, grape-like eyes.

Upon seeing his father, the little guy immediately giggled and waved his little hands in the air, as if to say hello.

"Good morning, little one," Gu Tingyu said softly, bending down to pick up his son.

Little Chengze is over eight months old now. He has a round face, bright and lively eyes, and his little mouth is always pouting, just like Gu Tingyu when he was a child.

"Let Mom sleep a little longer, my son and I will go out for a walk," Gu Tingyu said softly, carrying Xiao Chengze out of the room.

As soon as the father and son reached the top of the stairs, the butler, Uncle Li, was already waiting there for a long time.

"Young Master, breakfast is ready. The Old Master is waiting for you in the living room," Uncle Li said respectfully, his gaze fixed on Xiao Chengze, his eyes filled with affection.

“Maggie is still sleeping, don’t disturb her,” Gu Tingyu instructed.

The father and son walked down the stairs and through the spacious hallway to the living room.

The living room of the old house is spacious and bright, with antique mahogany furniture that exudes the weight of time. Several valuable calligraphy and paintings hang on the walls, and outside the window is a meticulously manicured garden. The whole space is filled with a solemn yet warm atmosphere.

Grandpa Gu was already sitting on the sofa with a newspaper in his hand. When he saw them come in, he immediately put down the newspaper and his eyes lit up.

"Chengze is awake?" The old man stretched out his hands, eager to take his great-grandson.

Gu Tingyu smiled and handed his son to his grandfather, saying, "He got up especially early today; he seems very excited."

Xiao Chengze seemed very close to his great-grandfather. He calmed down as soon as he was in the old man's arms, and curiously stroked the old man's cheek with his little hands, which made the old man smile.

"This child is exactly like you when you were little," Grandpa Gu sighed, his eyes gleaming with reminiscence. "You were just like that back then, always smiling at everyone you saw, especially your father, your eyes would light up."

Mentioning Gu Tingyu's father instantly made the atmosphere in the room somewhat heavy.

Gu Tingyu's expression faltered slightly, but he quickly recovered and said softly, "Really? I don't remember at all."

Grandpa Gu stroked Xiao Chengze's head and sighed, "Time flies so fast. In the blink of an eye, you're a father now, and I'm already a great-grandfather."

The housekeeper served breakfast on time, and the table was filled with a sumptuous spread of food: delicate steamed buns, fragrant soy milk, various fresh fruits, and several simple but nutritious home-style dishes.

Grandpa Gu held Xiao Chengze tightly, showing no intention of letting go. Gu Tingyu could only sit aside and occasionally put some food on his grandfather's plate.

"Grandpa, please eat something first," Gu Tingyu said with concern.

The old man shook his head: "I'm not hungry. Just looking at Chengze makes me full."

At that moment, Gu Tingyu felt a pang of sadness.

The once powerful and decisive head of the Gu family is now an elderly man with a full head of white hair, whose greatest joy is simply hugging his great-grandson.

Just as the three generations of the family were enjoying a cozy breakfast, a soft footstep came from the direction of the stairs.

Su Maiqi walked into the living room, dressed in simple and elegant home clothes, her hair casually tied back, her face showing the gentle look of someone who had just woken up.

"Good morning, everyone," she said with a smile, her gaze shifting between Xiao Chengze and Grandpa Gu, her eyes full of warmth.

When Grandpa Gu saw Su Maiqi, his smile widened even more: "Qiqi's up? Come and have breakfast."

Su Maiqi walked to the old man's side and gently kissed Xiao Chengze's cheek: "The little guy woke up so early."

"He looks just like his father," Grandpa Gu said with a smile, his eyes filled with pride. "The children of the Gu family are all full of energy."

After breakfast, Gu Tingyu suggested taking his grandfather to the nearby temple fair to experience the lively atmosphere of the Chinese New Year.

"No," Old Master Gu shook his head slightly, "There are too many people outside, my old bones can't take the strain."

Gu Tingyu was somewhat disappointed, but he understood his grandfather's concerns.

An elderly man in his eighties has difficulty walking, and the cold and crowded conditions outside are a considerable burden for him.

Just then, Su Maiqi had a sudden inspiration: "Grandpa, I heard that you have many precious flowers in your greenhouse. Could you take Chengze and me to see them?"

Grandpa Gu's eyes lit up, clearly interested in the suggestion: "Of course! The weather is perfect today, sunny and bright, a wonderful time to admire the greenhouse."

Su Maiqi smiled and nodded, but she had other plans in mind.

She knew that the old man rarely went out anymore and spent most of his time at home, and the greenhouse was one of his favorite places.

Instead of forcing the elderly to suffer in a crowded temple fair, it's better to spend a relaxing and enjoyable morning with them in a familiar and pleasant environment.

Gu Tingyu glanced at his wife gratefully, a slight smile playing on his lips, his eyes filled with approval and tenderness.

This woman always manages to come up with the most suitable solutions at crucial moments, taking care of the elderly man's physical condition without making him feel neglected or ignored.

Su Maiqi put Xiao Chengze into the stroller, and the family walked towards the greenhouse.

The Gu family's flower room is located in the back garden. It is a spacious and bright glass building with a constant temperature all year round, and it grows rare flowers from all over the world.

Pushing open the door to the flower room, a warm, humid breeze wafts in, carrying the delicate fragrance of various flowers, a truly refreshing experience.

Sunlight streamed through the glass onto the flowers, refracting a dazzling array of colors, as if the entire space was bathed in a golden halo, warm and bright.

Little Chengze was captivated by the beautiful scene. He excitedly waved his little hands in the stroller, making babbling sounds, his eyes sparkling with curiosity and joy.

Grandpa Gu walked ahead, his steps much lighter than usual, clearly in a good mood: "This greenhouse was built when I was young, back when your grandmother was still alive and especially loved flowers."

Su Maiqi pushed the stroller and followed behind the old man, listening attentively to his introduction.

"These are orchids imported from South America, these are rhododendrons unique to the Himalayas, and this is... ah, this is a rose, a yellow rose, your great-grandmother's favorite flower."

Grandpa Gu stopped in front of a blooming yellow rose, his voice suddenly becoming incredibly gentle, his eyes filled with nostalgia.

Little Chengze blinked his big eyes, seemingly attracted by the old man's gentle tone. He pointed to the bright flower with his little finger and made meaningless syllables, as if he were communicating with his great-grandfather.

Su Maiqi's heart skipped a beat as she watched this scene.

The old man looked up and suddenly spoke to Su Maiqi, "Qiqi, thank you and Chengze for keeping me company."

These words were spoken so naturally, yet they brought a pang of bitterness to Su Maiqi's heart.

Even the strongest man cannot escape the passage of time. The once powerful head of the Gu family is now just an ordinary old man who misses his family and longs for kinship.

“Grandpa, I should be thanking you,” Su Maiqi said sincerely. “This greenhouse is so beautiful, with all kinds of rare flowers, each one full of vitality and beauty.”

Moreover, Chengze is young, and it's more reassuring to stay home during the Spring Festival when there are many people and it's noisy outside.

Grandpa Gu nodded, gently patted Xiao Chengze's head, and a hint of relief flashed in his eyes.

At the end of the greenhouse, there is a small rest area with several comfortable rattan chairs and a small tea table.

Sunlight streams through the glass, warm but not glaring.

Grandpa Gu sat down in the rattan chair and gestured for Su Maiqi to sit down and rest as well.

Su Maiqi took Xiao Chengze out of the stroller and placed him on a soft mat, letting him crawl freely.

The little one seemed to really enjoy this freedom, immediately crawling excitedly around on the mat, occasionally letting out happy laughter.

"I heard from Tingyu that you're going to France?" Old Master Gu suddenly spoke, his voice calm but carrying a hint of barely perceptible worry.

Su Maiqi paused slightly, then nodded: "Yes, the Moonlight Flame project requires me to personally oversee it in France for a period of time."

Grandpa Gu was silent for a moment, then his gaze fell on little Chengze who was playing: "Chengze is still so young, he'll miss his mother. Even if you go to France, you must remember this family. Tingyu and Chengze can't live without you."
