"Aww..."

A mournful, long wolf moo suddenly pierced the night.

The wolf pack finally lost patience and launched an attack.

Bai Shu felt a chill run down his spine. He looked up and saw that the small green dot, which had been flickering like a will-o'-the-wisp at the edge of his vision, was now rapidly approaching.

He instinctively gripped the short knife at his waist, his palms already drenched in cold sweat.

A pair of eyes, however, shone with an astonishing brightness in the cold, dark night.

By the faint moonlight, Bai Shu quickly scanned the wolf pack, made a rough estimate, and his face instantly turned ashen.

The wolf pack numbered at least twenty or thirty.

A bitter smile appeared on Bai Zhu's lips.

Having just escaped from the jaws of a tiger, he has now plunged headlong into the den of wolves.

Am I really going to die here today?

He slowly squatted down, gently put Xiao Nanzhi down from his back, and leaned against a thick tree trunk.

The wolf pack drew closer and closer, their low growls rising and falling, sending chills down one's spine.

Bai Shu stared intently at the alpha wolf, his entire body tense, every nerve stretched to its limit.

We will fight them to the death when they launch their attack.

Before long, the pack of wolves arrived.

Each wolf was emaciated, with its gaping maws wide open, as if it wanted to devour the two people in front of it.

Bai Shu felt a chill run down his spine; they were a pack of hungry wolves.

Hungry wolves are even more difficult to deal with. Having been hungry for a long time, they are even less likely to leave once they smell the scent of their prey.

Unless they encounter a beast even more terrifying than themselves.

Bai Shu gripped his short knife with a stern expression, but before he could prepare, the pack of wolves launched their attack.

They had already observed everything from a distance.

There was no one else there except him and a woman.

Two humans are nothing to fear.

A lithe and agile wolf struck first, pouncing on Bai Shu like lightning.

Bai Shu's pupils contracted sharply. At the critical moment when the wolf pounced, he twisted his wrist and stabbed the wolf's neck with precision.

Scalding blood gushed out, the wolf howled, and collapsed to the ground.

Before Bai Shu could recover, the wolf pack behind him surged forward like a tidal wave, instantly engulfing the fallen wolf.

Almost instantly, only bones remained.

Bai Shu brandished his short knife incessantly, killing several large wolves in the blink of an eye.

Seeing his bravery, the wolf pack dared not approach him rashly again.

It just hissed softly and circled around it.

In that short moment, Bai Shu killed six large wolves in one go.

In an instant, his body was soaked in the blood of the wolves, and the pungent smell of blood permeated the surroundings.

But he paid a heavy price; his arms and legs were covered with deep and shallow bites and scratches, and blood kept gushing out from the wounds.

The drops fell onto the snow, staining it with a startling crimson hue.

Bai Zhu clenched his teeth, and large beads of sweat rolled down his forehead.

He didn't even have time to catch his breath, let alone stop to properly bandage his wounds.

The pack of wolves remained menacingly surrounding him. If he relaxed even slightly, they would pounce on him like hungry tigers, tearing him to pieces and devouring him completely.

If this stalemate continues without him getting a chance to breathe, he will go into shock from excessive blood loss before he can kill all the wolves.

He endured the excruciating pain, tore off strips of cloth from his clothes, and planned to treat his wounds simply.

However, his every move was closely watched by the wolves. As soon as he made the slightest movement, the wolves would take two steps forward, growling in their throats, and pounce on him without hesitation the moment he was distracted.

Bai Zhu tried several times, but the wound could not be properly bandaged.

Just then, the temperature in the mountains plummeted, and snowflakes began to fall in the already bone-chilling air.

At first, the snowflakes were just scattered here and there.

But in the blink of an eye, it turned into a flurry of snowflakes, quickly turning the entire mountain forest into a silvery-white expanse.

Bai Zhu felt his hands gradually losing sensation, becoming numb and stiff from the cold wind.

Blood froze on his palms, and each time he gripped the knife, it felt like touching a cold stone.

He glanced worriedly at Xiao Nanzhi, who was leaning against a tree trunk, unconscious. Snowflakes fell on her face and body, but she did not react.

If she falls asleep in such cold mountains, she may never wake up again.

"Nanzhi, wake up, Nanzhi..." Bai Shu called out to her anxiously, calling her name several times in a row.

Whether it was because it was too cold or because Xiao Nanzhi heard his call, she finally opened her eyes.

But when she saw what was happening in front of her, she almost fainted again from fright.

All around were bloodstains and wolf carcasses.

Standing in front of her was a blood-soaked figure, covered in blood and looking terrifying.

Xiao Nanzhi carefully examined him, then called out tremblingly, "Brother Bai Shu?"

Bai Shu breathed a sigh of relief and tried to put on a gentle smile: "It's me, Nan Zhi. Don't be afraid, we'll be alright."

Xiao Nanzhi nodded gently, and she stepped forward, her body trembling with fear, saying, "I'll help you."

Bai Shu watched as the wolf pack retreated a few steps, then stood in front of Xiao Nanzhi so that she could bandage his wounds.

As Xiao Nanzhi sniffled, she bandaged his wounds, tears falling onto his arm, which made Bai Shu's heart tremble.

He had never expected to be in such a desperate situation.

"Nanzhi, I'm sorry." Bai Shu seemed like a different person at this moment: "I promised to protect you, but now I may have to break my promise."

At this point, he looked at Xiao Nanzhi apologetically and asked her softly, "Are you afraid?"

Xiao Nanzhi's body trembled slightly; she was actually afraid.

But looking at Bai Shu's face, which was covered in blood, she suddenly felt no longer afraid.

With such a man protecting her, risking his life to safeguard her at such a moment, what else could she possibly fear?

She smiled sadly at Bai Shu: "I'm not afraid. With Brother Bai Shu by my side, Nan Zhi is not afraid."

She said she wasn't afraid, but tears kept flowing.

Seeing her like this, Bai Shu felt as if her heart was being torn apart.

The wolves had lost their patience and, with a long howl, launched an attack.

Knowing he was no match for her, Bai Shu threw away the dagger in his hand, turned around, and hugged Xiao Nanzhi.

Just then, an explosion rang out in front of the two of them.

Several wolf howls rang out, and the hungry wolves that had surrounded them scattered in terror.

Xiao Nanzhi opened her terrified eyes and saw many well-trained soldiers descending from the sky.

Those men were dressed in black armor and carried long spears and short swords.

The leader rode a tall horse, wielding a long sword that slashed left and right, killing countless hungry wolves.

They actually fought their way out.

As the person drew closer, Xiao Nanzhi was able to see his face clearly. Her eyes lit up with surprise and she said happily, "Brother Xiao Ji, we're here."
