Rescuing the Villainous Boss with a Little Dirty Master

Chapter 71 Can Humanoid Weapons Also Feel Love? 08

A-01 is the desolate planet Sakanan where criminals are exiled. Once exiled to this planet, regardless of the severity of the crime, their identification card is cancelled, rendering them virtually unknown in interstellar space, with absolutely no possibility of returning to Sakanan. Without an identification card, they cannot even pass the first checkpoint on Sakanan.

This is why Lan immediately doubted Jiang Heng's explanation. To secretly transport a continuous stream of people without identity cards back to Saka South Star is no simple matter. Unless someone of immense authority is involved, and a complete chain has been established, it's highly unlikely. A corrupt organization can easily become a corrupt one.

"Boss, a beer, please."

In the small bar, Lan picked up the cheap beer that was pushed in front of her, took a sip, then frowned and put it down.

Seeing his reaction, the tavern owner chuckled. "New here? Can't get used to the taste, huh?" He picked up the glass beside him, tilted his head back, and took a big gulp. "You'll get used to it after you've been here a while."

Qin Yaoming, who had come to the desolate planet with Lan, also curiously smacked his lips and spat twice. Looking around the small tavern, he saw that there were quite a few people there, and he wondered how they had gotten used to such a bitter taste.

Lan chatted with the boss for a few more minutes, then casually asked, "I heard this area belongs to Tunanzhao?"

“That’s right, as long as you can afford the price, Tunan can save your life.”

"So strong? Are there no exceptions? I heard there are quite a few forces on A-01."

Lan raised her glass and clinked it with his, looking curious.

“Exceptions?” The shopkeeper slurred, shaking the cup in his hand. “There are no exceptions, it’s just that they can’t afford the price.”

After a few more words, someone came to ask him to drink. He patted Lan on the shoulder and said, "Kid, if you want to survive here, don't be stingy, no matter what it is."

This kid has some tough shoulders.

The man hesitated for a moment, then, unconcerned, staggered into the crowd. Laughter and chatter filled the small space. Lan glanced back, gave Qin Yaoming a look, and the two left the tavern.

As the laughter subsided, the group of people who had been mingling turned their attention to the two who were leaving, exchanged a few glances, and then two of them put down their glasses and followed them.

In the alley, Lan and Qin Yaoming exchanged a glance, made a hand gesture, and quickened their pace, soon disappearing around the corner.

The two who had followed hurriedly gave chase, only to find that there was no road ahead.

"Damn it! We've been spotted!"

They turned to go back to the tavern, only to find the person they had lost sight of standing at the alley entrance. Now, they were the ones who were blocked.

"Why are you following us?"

Lan lowered his voice, his rough, hoarse tone revealing a sinister intent.

"It's rare to have two newcomers; I'm just curious."

The two men, who were acting nonchalantly, were about to pass between Lan and the other two when they were grabbed by the shoulders and frozen in place.

A searing pain, as if their bones were being crushed, shot through them, causing the two men to groan in agony, their faces contorted in agony. They tried to retaliate, but Qin Yaoming pulled off their coats, restraining them and delivering a kick to each of their knees.

"Are you being honest?"

The two men knelt on the ground, cowering as they looked at the two people in front of them; they had met their match.

"Don't be nervous. We just want to ask you a few questions. We'll let you go after we're done."

Upon hearing that they were just inquiring about something, the two of them breathed a sigh of relief.

"Ask away."

"Has anyone gone missing in your area recently? We came all the way from another district on a bribe, but we haven't been able to find the person we're looking for."

What they came here for was too common on this desolate planet, and they didn't dare to ask in detail. Human life was worthless on A-01.

"I haven't heard of it."

"There are no missing persons, but dead people are quite common."

Another person added quietly, "But too many people have been dying lately."

Qin Yaoming asked a few more detailed questions, but when he couldn't get any more information from them, he knocked them unconscious, tied them up, and dragged them to a corner.

"Boss, isn't something wrong with this?"

"Just go and take a look and you'll find out."

Lan flung out four mechanical bees. The bees' eyes flashed red, and they flapped their wings and flew toward their designated location.

Lan and Qin Yaoming avoided the crowd, released the spacecraft from the space folder, and in the blink of an eye left A-01 and returned to the starship docked outside the channel.

The mechanical bees flew westward after ascending to a high altitude, until they reached a two-story building, where they dispersed in various places, some landing on the roof and others on tree branches. At this point, the entire building was now visible to Lan.

On the starship, Lan stared at the live feed transmitted by the mechanical bees. For five days straight, no one had left inside. His brow furrowed; a bad feeling crept in.

Suddenly, a new message came in on his personal terminal. Seeing that it was from Jiang Heng, he clicked on it and saw a round, 3D kitten hopping and jumping out of the screen, drawing a heart with its paw and throwing it at his face.

Lan was so startled that she took a step back.

Seeing him like this, Qin Yaoming thought there was something new, so he quickly moved closer to him, only to find that it was set to private, and then stepped back.

After the cat finished its commotion and disappeared, Lan took a deep breath, tapped around on the personal terminal with her fingertips, and finally sent a question mark.

A message came quickly from the other end: "Captain Lan, is a video call convenient?"

Lan hesitated for a few seconds, then sent a video call. The holographic projection unfolded in front of him; thankfully, the other person wasn't disheveled this time, so it seemed to be in his research lab.

"Did you find anything?"

"Still waiting, it should be soon."

In the lab, Jiang Heng took off her goggles, brushed her hair back which was pinned down, and leaned back in her chair, staring at the person she hadn't seen for over a month on the screen. She had to admit, this man was increasingly attractive; she really wanted to devour him right then and there.

Lan saw that there was still no sound from the other end, pursed her lips, and was about to hang up the video call. That extremely aggressive gaze from when they first met came back to her.

At first, he thought Jiang Heng was provoking him, but now he was a little confused. Why did she always look at him like that? Could it be that she wanted to do research on him? She seemed quite interested in the crystal on his heart.

"Come to my house when you come back, I have something for you."

"your home?"

"Yes, it's inconvenient at the research institute. I spend most of my time on the second basement level now."

Upon hearing "second basement level," Lan subconsciously frowned. "Be careful."

"Are you worried about me?"

Jiang Heng leaned closer, as if trying to pass through the light barrier to get right in front of him. Lan's breathing slowed down a bit, and looking at the bright smile in her eyes, he nodded unconsciously.

"Alright, since some people are worried, I'll be more careful. I'll wait for you to come back safely."

Even after the video call ended, Lan's ears were still filled with the words "waiting for you to come back." It seemed like the first time anyone had ever said such a thing to him.

He raised his hand and pressed it to his chest. Shouldn't this heart also need maintenance? It felt like it was broken, and he couldn't seem to control its beating frequency.
