From cannon fodder villain to superpowered queen

Chapter 247 Physical Mutation, First Clues

Bi Yao frowned slightly, her cherry lips pursed, and her clear eyes were filled with doubt.

She slowly raised her hands, her slender fingertips trembling slightly, as if something was about to break free from its cocoon.

"My power... seems to have changed." She said softly, her tone carrying an indescribable confusion, as if she were talking to herself, or as if she were seeking an answer from Jiang Ruiyuan.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Ruiyuan's deep gaze fell on Bi Yao's hands. His brows furrowed, and his expression was focused and serious, as if he wanted to see through the secret in her palms.

He parted his thin lips slightly: "Specifically, what's different?" His tone was low, carrying a hint of barely perceptible worry.

A tense atmosphere filled the air, like the calm before a storm.

“I can’t quite put it into words,” Bi Yao shook her head, a hint of confusion in her voice. “It feels… my power is more active, but also somewhat unstable, like a wild horse that’s out of control. And…” She paused, as if organizing her thoughts, “I feel like it’s yearning for something, a kind of… yearning I’ve never felt before.” She tried to describe that strange feeling, but found that any words seemed pale and powerless.

The two began to try to recall all the knowledge they had about the power system, attempting to find a clue.

Jiang Ruiyuan was well-read and knew about almost all types of superpowers, but at this moment, he was like a lost child, unable to find his way.

Bi Yao racked her brains, trying to find the answer from her past experiences, but found that her past experiences were completely inapplicable.

The surrounding light seemed to dim along with their confusion, and a sense of oppression filled the air, as if some unknown danger was approaching.

"Could it be... the awakening of some new power?" Jiang Ruiyuan murmured to himself, his tone tinged with uncertainty.

“But I’ve never heard of this type of awakening before,” Bi Yao retorted, her brows furrowed and her eyes filled with anxiety.

The two remained silent for a moment, both falling into deep self-doubt.

Could it be that their perceptions have always been wrong?

Suddenly, Bi Yao abruptly raised her head, a glint of shrewdness flashing in her eyes…

"Wait!" Bi Yao suddenly stood up, her eyes flashing with a sharp light, like a shooting star streaking across the night sky.

"The place where we fought before! Those residual energy fluctuations might provide some clues!" She clenched her fist excitedly, her cheeks flushed slightly with excitement, and she looked like a spark about to explode.

Seeing her sudden flash of inspiration, Jiang Ruiyuan exclaimed, "Yaoyao, you're so smart!" He praised her generously, his tone filled with affection.

The two smiled at each other, and the flame of hope was rekindled.

Without hesitation, they set off for an abandoned factory where they had fought before.

That place was where they fought a fierce battle with a group of mutated creatures, and the air still retained a faint smell of blood and energy fluctuations.

As soon as you step into the factory gate, a chilling aura hits you, sending shivers down your spine.

The surrounding light became even dimmer, as if shrouded in a thick fog.

On the walls, mottled marks, like ghostly figures, tell the story of the fierce battle that once took place here.

Suddenly, the air distorted, and several blurry phantoms appeared out of thin air, radiating a suffocating sense of oppression.

These phantoms are elusive, appearing and disappearing like ghosts, making them difficult to grasp.

"Watch out!" Jiang Ruiyuan pulled Bi Yao behind him and watched the surroundings warily.

Before she could finish speaking, a phantom appeared like lightning, carrying a sharp gust of wind, heading straight for Bi Yao's face.

With lightning speed, Jiang Ruiyuan grabbed Bi Yao's arm and pulled her behind him, narrowly avoiding the attack.

“These phantoms…are very powerful!” Bi Yao’s expression was solemn, and her tone carried a hint of worry.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here." Jiang Ruiyuan's voice was steady and powerful, giving Bi Yao a great sense of security.

The phantom's attacks grew increasingly fierce, pouring down like a torrential downpour.

Jiang Ruiyuan shielded Bi Yao behind him, fending off the phantoms' attacks while searching for their weaknesses.

“Their attacks… seem to have no physical form!” Bi Yao keenly noticed this.

Jiang Ruiyuan did not speak, but stared intently at the phantom before him, as if he were pondering something.

"Yaoyao, take good care of yourself," he suddenly said, his tone resolute.

A glint flashed in Jiang Ruiyuan's eyes, and a wicked smile curled at the corner of his mouth. His hands quickly formed hand seals, and mysterious golden runes danced at his fingertips, shimmering with dazzling light like elves.

"Watch me perform a magic trick!" he said softly, a hint of amusement in his voice.

In an instant, the runes scattered like stars, forming a huge golden light shield that instantly enveloped the surrounding phantoms.

The phantoms instantly lost their target, stumbling around like headless flies, emitting sharp howls, much like kites with broken strings, lost and helpless.

"Wow! Ruiyuan, your move is amazing!" Bi Yao stared wide-eyed at the scene before her, her worries instantly replaced by excitement, and a bright smile appeared on her lips.

"What kind of magical spell is this? Teach me!"

Just as the phantoms were at a loss, Jiang Ruiyuan seized the opportunity to rush to Bi Yao's side, gently tidying her hair that had been messed up by the battle, and lightly brushing her cheek with his fingertips.

Their eyes met, and the air seemed to be filled with a sweet atmosphere.

Their eyes were only for each other, their tenderness almost overflowing.

The dim surroundings seemed to brighten slightly because of this sudden tenderness.

Bi Yao's heart skipped a beat, her face flushed slightly, and her unease vanished instantly, leaving only a feeling of sweetness and security.

"It's so good to have you here," she said softly, her tone slightly coquettish.

"Silly girl, what are you saying? With me here, everything will be alright." Jiang Ruiyuan affectionately ruffled her hair, his voice so gentle it could melt steel.

Just then, Bi Yao suddenly realized that the energy fluctuations of those phantoms seemed to have a subtle connection with the restless power within her body, as if there was some kind of attraction between the two.

Just as she was about to investigate further, an even more powerful and terrifying force suddenly descended from the sky, instantly swallowing everything around her like a black hole. Those originally menacing phantoms, before they even had a chance to scream, vanished without a trace, like dust wiped away with a rag.

"What...is this?!" Bi Yao's pupils shrank, her voice filled with shock and confusion.

Jiang Ruiyuan took Bi Yao's hand, his eyes burning with fighting spirit, a meaningful smile playing on his lips, and said firmly, "Let's go, let's go take a look."
