Reborn Fairy Wife Takes Me on a Gaggle-Fire rampage
Chapter 44 No rush
Mu Chen spoke thoughtfully, "I haven't proposed to Wen Shu yet, there's no rush." His voice carried a hint of caution and seriousness, revealing his emphasis on this relationship and his deep consideration for the future. Mu Chen understood that proposing was something that required careful consideration, and he hoped to express his feelings to Wen Shu at the most appropriate time and in the most perfect way. Mu Chen's mother didn't say much more.
Afterwards, Mu Chen led Wen Shu on a stroll around the mansion, introducing its architecture to her as they walked. Pointing to the main building, Mu Chen explained in detail, "This main building is the heart of the entire mansion. It adopts classic Chinese architectural style, with upturned eaves, carved beams and painted rafters; every detail reveals the exquisite craftsmanship of the artisans." Wen Shu gazed curiously at the beautiful carvings, feeling the weight of history and the inheritance of culture.
Next, Mu Chen led Wen Shu to the back garden of the house, where lush greenery and fragrant flowers filled the air. Mu Chen explained, "This back garden is designed in the style of Suzhou gardens. Look at the small bridge over there, the flowing water, and that rockery; they all imitate the layout of Jiangnan gardens." Wen Shu was captivated by the beautiful scenery before her. She strolled along the winding paths, feeling the gentle breeze on her face, and her mood was exceptionally pleasant.
Mu Chen continued to show Wen Shu the study in the house, which was filled with all kinds of books and antiques. Mu Chen pointed to an ancient book on the bookshelf and said proudly, "These books and antiques are treasures passed down through generations of our family. Each one has its own unique historical value." Wen Shu carefully flipped through the precious books, filled with respect for these witnesses to history.
Finally, Mu Chen led Wen Shu to the courtyard of the house, where there was an antique-style pavilion in the center. Mu Chen explained, "This pavilion is where the family gathers and receives guests. Every full moon night, we hold a family banquet in the pavilion to enjoy the moon and tea."
The entire mansion not only boasts a unique architectural style, but every corner is also imbued with profound cultural heritage and the family's historical memories. Mu Chen's introduction gave Wen Shu a deeper understanding of the mansion, and her respect for the Mu Chen family arose spontaneously.
Mu Chen led Wen Shu through a quiet path to her grandfather's courtyard. Surrounded by ancient blue brick walls, the courtyard exuded tranquility and a classic charm. The layout remained traditional, with winding stone paths lined with various flowers, trees, and shrubs that emitted a delicate fragrance. Wen Shu was captivated by the serene environment and slowed her pace, carefully appreciating the surrounding scenery.
Mu Chen gently introduced to Wen Shu, "Grandfather always missed Grandmother very much. Since Grandmother passed away many years ago, Grandfather has never remarried. He insisted on keeping this courtyard as it was, as if Grandmother had never left." Upon hearing this, Wen Shu felt a warm current well up in her heart and was filled with respect for this elderly man she had never met.
The furniture and decorations in the courtyard all bore the marks of time, each item seemingly carrying a beautiful memory. Wen Shu noticed that even on the stone bench in the courtyard, there was a cushion embroidered with mandarin ducks, presumably handmade by her grandmother. She imagined her grandmother sitting on the stone bench, carefully embroidering the cushion, and a faint sadness welled up in her heart.
Mu Chen led Wen Shu into the main house. The interior furnishings maintained a traditional style, with old-fashioned mahogany furniture that exuded solemnity and simplicity. Several black-and-white photos of her grandparents in their youth hung on the wall, their smiles radiant with happiness. Wen Shu carefully examined these photos, as if she could feel their joyful times from back then.
On a table in the corner of the room sat an exquisite wooden photo frame containing a faded wedding picture. In the photo, her grandparents were young and handsome, gentle and refined, smiling at each other with eyes full of hope for the future. Wen Shu was deeply drawn to the photo; she imagined their wedding back then, which must have been filled with warmth and joy.
Mu Chen said softly to Wen Shu, "Grandfather always said that Grandmother was the most important person in his life. Even though she has been gone for many years, her shadow is still everywhere." Wen Shu was deeply moved after hearing this. She knew that this courtyard was not just a place to live, but also a testament to her grandfather's endless longing for her grandmother.
While strolling in the courtyard, Wen Shu noticed a small vegetable garden in one corner, filled with various vegetables and flowers. Mu Chen told her that her grandfather had planted it himself to commemorate her grandmother. Her grandmother loved gardening and was often busy in the courtyard. Now, these flowers and vegetables seemed to be her grandmother's embodiment, continuing to accompany her grandfather.
Wen Shu stood beside the vibrant vegetable garden, taking a deep breath. She could feel that every inch of this land was filled with love and memories. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, warming her face.
Grandfather walked towards Wen Shu, his steps slow but steady. He had just picked fresh strawberries from the shed, a kind smile on his face. While still in the shed, he had heard people coming from the yard, so he hurriedly picked some of the best strawberries to share with his guests. The servant took the strawberries, carefully washed them at the well, and then served them. Grandfather looked at Wen Shu and Mu Chen, smiling, and said, "You should try some too, they're freshly picked." Wen Shu smiled sweetly and said gratefully, "Thank you, Grandfather!"
Grandfather then turned to Mu Chen, patted him on the shoulder, and said earnestly, "Don't you dare bully Wen Shu, or I'll teach you a lesson." Mu Chen responded with a smile, his smile carrying a hint of mischief and sincerity, "How could I? I will definitely take good care of her." Grandfather nodded in satisfaction.
Wen Shu and Mu Chen sat at the table, savoring the bright red, juicy strawberries. Every bite was filled with sweetness and happiness, as if they could feel their grandfather's love for this land and his care for his family. Wen Shu looked at Mu Chen, a warm feeling welling up in her heart.
In his kind yet slightly authoritative voice, the grandfather softly instructed the servant standing to the side, "Prepare the small dining room." The servant nodded respectfully and quickly turned to get to work.
The small dining room, located in a corner of the courtyard, is not large but is decorated with exceptional elegance. Several ink paintings depicting the water towns of Jiangnan hang on the walls, and outside the window is a verdant bamboo grove. A gentle breeze rustles the bamboo leaves, as if telling stories of Jiangnan. Inside the room is an antique-style mahogany dining table, covered with a clean white tablecloth, making it appear exceptionally tidy.
In no time, a table laden with delicious-looking and fragrant Jiangnan dishes was laid out. The first thing that caught the eye was a plate of steamed sea bass, the fish tender and fresh, sprinkled with chopped scallions and ginger, and drizzled with hot oil, releasing an enticing aroma. Next to it was a bowl of West Lake beef soup, the beef thinly sliced, the broth clear, and a few sprigs of bright green cilantro floating on top, making it even more appetizing.
Next came several delicate side dishes, including a refreshing cucumber salad with vinegar and minced garlic, which was crispy and appetizing; and golden-brown, crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside fried tofu rolls, each bite bursting with flavor. The main course consisted of several bowls of steaming white rice, each grain distinct and exuding a subtle aroma of rice.
Grandfather smiled and invited everyone to sit down. He picked up his chopsticks, took a piece of sea bass, savored it carefully, and nodded in satisfaction. The family members also started eating, enjoying the carefully prepared Jiangnan delicacies.
