I have the face of a great demon.
Chapter 5 First Encounter with Danger
The spirit could never understand how a mortal could use magic to capture it as a spirit pet.
Having lived for so many years, I've seen countless demons being taken as spirit pets by cultivators, but I've never seen one being subdued by a mortal.
This unprecedented situation has created an awkward predicament.
The spirit cannot communicate with its master.
Liu Xingchen lacked the power of a cultivator and was unable to see inwards, so he was unaware that a spirit resided within his body. Since the spirit couldn't speak, it naturally couldn't communicate with him.
It's like a silly boy carrying a huge check but not knowing how to use it, or even what it is, thinking it's just an ordinary piece of paper.
Faced with this situation, the spirit became depressed.
If I had known this would happen, I would have been better off being the spirit pets of the two cultivators in front of me.
Now things are really messed up.
A spirit pet is a part of its owner; if the owner dies, the spirit pet will also perish.
This master was just an ordinary person, extremely weak, with no ability to protect himself, and might be beaten to death any day.
Even if you're lucky and live a peaceful life, you can only live for a hundred years. After that, you'll turn into dust.
The spirit was on the verge of tears. A being with an infinite lifespan was left with only a short hundred years to live. Anyone would be depressed.
Liu Xingchen, after running around for so long, finally resigned himself to his fate.
In the desolate mountains and wilderness, not even a ghost could be seen. They had no choice but to rely on their own efforts to get out of the mountains and forests and survive tenaciously.
He looked up at the sun and, judging from the current heat, estimated that it was still early, probably around noon, and the sun was heading east.
He then walked towards the sun, hoping to escape the mountains and forests.
The mountains and forests are densely covered with shrubs, making it impenetrable.
Liu Xingchen had to make close contact with tree branches and bushes from time to time in order to barely make a path.
The surroundings were quiet, with occasional rustling sounds, as if some small animal was hiding in the grass.
Fortunately, there were no large wild animals, Liu Xingchen thought to himself, hurrying along, hoping to get out of the forest before dark and avoid spending the night in the woods.
Judging from the terrain he had traversed, it was all downhill, which filled him with hope that he would definitely make it out.
Liu Xingchen had no idea how far the road stretched out beneath his feet. He felt as if his legs were filled with lead and his throat was so dry it felt like it was on fire.
Just as he was about to be consumed by exhaustion and thirst, a sudden burst of noise was like heavenly music, instantly igniting the flame of hope in him.
A surge of joy welled up in his heart, as if an invisible hand had injected him with boundless power. He pushed off the ground and sprinted toward the source of the sound.
As the distance closed, the sound became clearer.
The clanging of weapons, the roars and wails of voices intertwined, like a tragic war song, yet it made his heart tighten and a chill run down his spine.
It's so frustrating. I finally found someone, only to find them fighting each other.
He didn't want to get involved in other people's fights and lose his life for nothing.
So he calmed his eagerness, slowed his pace, and approached cautiously.
Finally, he arrived at the edge of a steep slope.
This slope is extremely steep, with a nearly 90-degree incline, forming a small cliff five or six stories high, which is awe-inspiring.
Liu Xingchen crawled on the ground, inching his way over, and peered down from the cliff.
Below, on the open ground, two groups of people were locked in a fierce battle.
The people below were all dressed in ancient costumes, which shattered Liu Xingchen's last hope.
This means that he has not only traveled through space but also through time, arriving in ancient times, and his hope of returning home is extremely slim.
While spatial distances may be overcome with wisdom and courage, the river of time is elusive and difficult to traverse.
Fortunately, he had anticipated this and was somewhat prepared, so he wasn't too badly hurt.
Since he was already there, Liu Xingchen decided to put aside thoughts of going home and focus on dealing with the immediate issues first.
He focused intently on the battlefield below, not wanting to miss a single detail.
The scene was like a martial arts epic.
The fighting below is between two groups of people. One group, dressed in black, consists of about ten people wielding knives, spears, and clubs, and they are surrounding and killing several people in white.
Although there were few of them, each of the white-clad figures was exceptionally skilled. They drew their longswords and faced their enemies with composure. Their white robes fluttered gracefully, making Liu Xingchen quite envious.
However, even a hero can't fight four hands, and even a fierce tiger fears a pack of wolves.
The man in white gradually became overwhelmed by the men in black's attack, retreating step by step until he was forced to the edge of the cliff with nowhere left to go.
The limited space greatly hampered their agility, and the situation took a sharp turn for the worse. Several of them were killed by the men in black, and they were immediately plunged into crisis.
This was the first time Liu Xingchen had faced a life-or-death struggle.
The scene of blood and flesh flying everywhere assaulted his visual nerves like a nightmare, and fear instantly froze his heart like ice.
He had leaned too far out of the cliff, and in his fright, his unconscious movements caused him to lose his balance. He tilted to one side and fell off.
"what--"
Liu Xingchen screamed as he fell off the cliff, his hands flailing wildly in the air, trying to grab anything that could save his life.
But it was all in vain. How could an ordinary person like him possibly extricate himself from such a crisis?
The sensation of falling headfirst made time seem to freeze. The ground rapidly magnified in his vision, the shadow of death loomed over him, and the fear in his heart surged like a tidal wave.
"It's over, I'm really finished this time!"
Just as he was about to fall to the ground and be smashed into a pile of minced meat, a sudden gust of wind blew him up from below, turning him over so that he was now upside down.
The wind also held him steady, slowing his descent.
Then, Liu Xingchen landed slowly with incredible stability.
Wearing that black demon costume, he inexplicably exuded an otherworldly aura, provided one ignored his continuous screams of agony, which were like a discordant note in an "elegant" symphony.
The moment his feet touched the ground, Liu Xingchen felt as if he had been reborn, discovering that he was completely unharmed.
All around them was a group of people staring wide-eyed, as if they had witnessed something unbelievable.
He immediately realized his awkward situation, and the "ah" he was about to say stopped abruptly. Instead, he shouted a loud "tai" in an attempt to save face.
His affected manner left the group bewildered.
They were fighting well, and it seemed like the battle was about to end, when suddenly someone fell off a cliff and landed unharmed, landing gracefully. They knew that no one else could do that.
This person must be a master.
No, even a master might not be able to do that.
A group of people stared blankly up at the cliff. Falling from such a height, no matter how skilled you are in martial arts, you would turn into a pile of minced meat.
Could this person be a deity?
But the "Ah!" the god yelled when he fell was probably a scream of agony, right? Are there really gods that cowardly?
Not necessarily. He even yelled "Hey!" at the end. Maybe that's just how he puts on airs.
One of the men in black guessed, "Maybe they're just playing a trick on us."
Or is he a goofy deity?
A group of men in black looked at Liu Xingchen suspiciously, unsure whether he was a deity or not.
However, the fact that he could jump off the cliff so gracefully and be unharmed was enough to intimidate the group of men in black.
This miraculous thing was of course thanks to the spirit ghost. It was already Liu Xingchen's destined spirit pet, and if its master died, it would not be able to live either.
He was speechless at his master's behavior; watching the excitement had led to his own death. If he didn't intervene, he would become the most tragically deceased ghost in the world.
Although the spirit could not communicate with Liu Xingchen, it could still cast a small spell to help Liu Xingchen land safely.
