President, please comfort me.

Chapter 20 Returning the Items to You

Wen Qi put down the cotton swabs, tidied up the trash, glanced at her phone, and saw it was almost 2 a.m.

She had originally wanted to tell Yang Xu, "He's not as bad as you say," but after what had just happened, she opened her mouth but couldn't say it.

She had no choice but to change her mind and say, "The noodles are still warm, you should eat some first."

"Hmm." Already exhausted, and having just fought, Yang Xu was almost completely drained. He dragged his weary body to his feet and, grimacing, managed to finish his noodles with great difficulty.

After cleaning up the dishes, Wen Qi prepared to go back: "You should get some rest. I'm going home now."

"It's so late, stay here, I'll take you home tomorrow."

"No need, I live nearby, I'll be there soon."

Feeling better after eating and drinking his fill, Yang Xu lazily got up and said, "Then I'll take you home."

"No need, I'm driving now, I'll text you when I get home."

"Alright then, I have to see you off to your car. It's not safe this late." So the two of them went out the door side by side.

Xiao He returned to Chunfengli, sat in the living room, lit a cigarette, and took a deep drag: "Go check it out and send it over tomorrow morning."

Based on his years of experience, A Biao immediately understood Xiao He's meaning. He wanted him to investigate the identity of the person tonight and his relationship with his sister-in-law: "Yes, boss, I'll be going now."

When Wen Qi returned, she saw the brightly lit hall. She first sent a message to Yang Xu, and then walked in with some trepidation, dawdling as she changed her shoes at the entrance.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Xiao He sitting with his legs crossed, one hand on the back of the sofa, the other holding a cigarette and smoking. There were several cigarette butts piled up in the ashtray, and the injury on his face hadn't been treated.

She wasn't so nervous at first, but after hearing what Yang Xu said, she felt a little scared.

Seeing Wen Qi return, Xiao He's expression softened slightly, his gaze following the woman's retreating figure at the door, but his attitude was still clearly displeased: "So you've finally decided to come back? Do you even know you're married? A man and a woman alone together in the middle of the night, have you forgotten your promise to me?"

Wen Qi was particularly annoyed by his attitude of catching her in the act. Ignoring her fear, she walked over and stood not far from him, trying her best to soften her tone: "Did I say I wasn't coming back? He's a very good friend of mine. He just came back from out of town. I just picked him up and took him home. What did I do?"

As soon as she approached, Xiao He immediately looked away, stubbed out his cigarette, straightened his posture, and looked up at her, still relentlessly nagging, "A married person would be with a strange man at two in the morning? You haven't forgotten the second point, have you? It's only been a few days and I already have to remind you?"

Wen Qi was caught off guard by his words and couldn't answer for a moment. She was a step slow to react when she heard him start mocking her again: "You say it's too expensive to accept, but you can't tell from your actions at all. You drive a limited edition supercar to pick up men, with flowers and gifts. Do you think you're so cool and amazing?"

Wen Qi felt her face burning with humiliation and couldn't help but say, "I admit it was wrong of me to pick up a boy in the middle of the night and take him home."

"But since you brought up the agreement, I'd like to ask you, have you forgotten the first one? Surely it wasn't me who told Ye Lin about our relationship?"

At this moment, Wen Qi was a bit agitated. Her earlier fear had long since vanished, and she continued, "How did you know I bought flowers? Did A Biao tell you? Did you have him follow me? I already said last time that I didn't need any. What right do you have to pry into my privacy so brazenly?"

Wen Qi never expected that she would be accused of being greedy. They had given it to her willingly, but Xiao He's words made it seem like she had shamelessly asked for it. The more she thought about it, the more aggrieved she felt. She was about to give up and said, "I don't think I'm anything special. Your gifts are indeed very valuable. I am not worthy of your respect. Thank you for reminding me. I will return them to you right away."

After saying all that, Wen Qi felt extremely upset. Ignoring Xiao He's increasingly dark face, she angrily turned around and ran upstairs.

Xiao He was initially very angry, feeling that he was in the right, but after Wen Qi's outburst, he found himself somewhat unable to stand up to her argument.

He knew that Wen Qi and that man definitely hadn't done anything inappropriate, and Wen Qi wouldn't dare, but she was furious the moment she entered the room, so she couldn't help but strike.

Wen Qi's eyes were red, and Xiao He wasn't unaware of it. In fact, the moment she turned around, he panicked and stood up the next second.

However, his legs felt like they weighed a ton, and he sat on the sofa like a deflated balloon, feeling uncomfortable, depressed, and a bit regretful. Suddenly, he remembered something and quickly turned off the lights and went upstairs to his room.

After returning to her room, Wen Qi immediately took out a small box from the bottom of the wardrobe, which was used to store valuables.

It would be a lie to say that he wasn't afraid at all, especially after Yang Xu said that Xiao He was a big bad guy in the capital. He had just been forced by circumstances to argue with him a few times, and now he was even more unsure of himself.

Wen Qi is a straightforward person who doesn't like being misunderstood, especially in matters of the heart.

She wasn't one to keep quiet and suffer in silence. Xiao He had questioned her about breaking her promise, and with this ready-made evidence, she naturally had to retaliate in kind.

Wen Qi opened the box, took out all the gifts they had given her before, and then went out of the room to find Xiao He without hesitation.

Seeing that it was pitch black downstairs, Wen Qi turned around and knocked on Xiao He's door.

No one paid any attention. Wen Qi waited for a while longer, but Xiao He still didn't come out. She didn't hear the sound of an engine coming from the yard, so she knew he was there. She put her things down at the door and shouted, "Open the door, I'll give your things back to you."

There was still no response. Wen Qi patiently continued to wait. Five minutes later, she spoke again: "You'd better come and check such a valuable gift to avoid any losses."

After he finished speaking, Xiao opened the door.

Their eyes met, and the tension from before had vanished, replaced by awkwardness. Xiao He, his face full of menacing aura, remained silent, still dressed in the same outfit as before.

Wen Qi immediately squatted down, picked up the heavy gift, and handed it to him: "It's all here, you can check if it's real or fake."

Xiao He frowned, his breathing was heavy, and he was clearly very angry. He stood there without saying a word.

Wen Qi waited for a while, not understanding what he wanted to do. Since they couldn't see eye to eye, she simply shoved the things into his hands and turned to go back to her room.

She wasn't afraid of what Xiao He might do to Yang Xu, after all, even if Xiao He didn't consider her, he would have to consider Tang Hui.

Wen Qi didn't even change her clothes before getting into bed, silencing her phone, closing her eyes and forcing herself to fall asleep as quickly as possible.

Half an hour later, not only was she wide awake, but tears began to stream down her face. After a while, she crumpled up a tissue and tossed it aside, then began to reflect on her behavior that day.

First of all, it was indeed inappropriate for someone of my current status to go to Yang Xu's house alone in the middle of the night, and I should be more careful about this in the future.

Secondly, that conspicuous car is definitely not something I can drive; I'll have to stick to my electric scooter from now on.

As for the rest, who cares what others think or how they see it? Just be true to yourself.

Having figured things out, Wen Qi felt relieved and drifted off to sleep.

For the first time ever, Wen Qi had a dream.

In the dream, Xiao He had Yang Xu arrested and beaten badly. Yang Xu cried like a child, saying he would never dare to do it again. Xiao He said, "You dare to touch my woman? Are you tired of living?"

Suddenly the scene shifts to the other side, where Yang Xu cheerfully calls Xiao He "Brother," and Xiao He apologizes, saying, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have hit you..."

At five o'clock in the morning, Wen Qi woke up with a start, covered in a cold sweat.

-

Xiao He spent a sleepless night.

He watched Wen Qi enter the room and really wanted to go over and say a few words to her, but in fact, he was used to being high and mighty and had never bowed his head to anyone, so he could only stand there and watch her disappear from sight.

His words about the gift weren't his true feelings; he was just very unhappy with her attitude towards that man, so he said those things impulsively.

Xiao He glanced at what he was holding, slammed the door shut, went inside, and threw a pile of jewelry onto the sofa.

I sat in the living room all night. As dawn broke, I received a message from Ah Biao on my phone: Boss, I've sent all the information to your email.
